Fashionably Late

I spent a decade having fun with a lot of you at the PI, and I'll never forget my first internet football family. How's it going 12s? ;)

Hey NLBM!

Great to see you here. 2013 was somethin' else, wasn't it?

35 years I've been waiting for this. Scary thing is, there's some in the forum who had been waiting longer:)

Even better - we have an Excellent shot at repeating. #3 can make Anything happen. He's already proved it.

iViva RW!

Hope you are well.

Good to see you here Mario, Your football insight is something we've missed here at the shack, so post early & often. We can never have too much common sense. Also, I look forward to jumping in the FFL with you again this year.

Good to see a lot of the old regulars migrated over.

Thanks Vegas for the kind words. Hopefully we can keep the league going strong.

RD, I'll definitely get back to posting regularly starting with the draft. Now that I'm done with college and working I should have more free time to mingle.

Zorn, I may be only 23 but that was still the first major championship I have ever been able to enjoy. The Longhorns won back when I hated everything Texas and the Storm just don't have the same feel. We get to enjoy being champions after dominating on the biggest stage in American sports. Doesn't get any better...unless of course we keep it going :)

monkey, still sour on the Lynch trade? I kid.

burrrton, you're damn right!

It's awesome for any Seahawk fan, NL.

So surreal, too, since it was such a blowout from the get go. After Harvin's house return to open the 2nd half, I knew it was over. Still, decades of past horror stories kept me from officially celebrating until the 4th:)

It's Still sinking in for me. It's also nice to walk around town in Seahawks' garb, living just 15 minutes from the 49ers new stadium.

Good times:)

Welcome, NLBM! Glad to see you here.

I'm 33, and this is the first championship from any of my teams, in any sport. That's what a life of Seahawks, Mariners, Sonics (f*ck you, David Stern), Huskies (so close in '91!), Sounders, and later Ducks will do for you! To be honest, it's a kinda weird feeling. I'm still not used to it, but I'm damn sure it will grow on me!

Anyway, I hope you stay around. This place has the PI crew but without the trolls and without the censorship.

nlbmsportin,

Welcome aboard! We are glad you are here. If you have any questions about the forum, ask away or direct them to me (or my other handle makena) and yoder. Yoder was the one who got the site up and running with the support of you and other 12s... I'm just helping him moderate.

Huskies (so close in '91!)

They were National Champs in 1991.

Or are you referring to them having to (RIDICULOUSLY) split it with Miami?

Yeah, that's what I'm referring to. I was 11 at the time and didn't much understand the merits of the AP vs. coaches' polls, but my dad often railed against the coaches' poll which he thought was BS. He said it was all horse trading and posturing, when the coaches actually bothered to do it. I didn't really understand that (nor did I understand why his arguments weren't all that great at the time), but all I knew is that the only poll my dad liked said that the Hurricanes were champs and so I could never really enjoy it.

I see, Oly.

That year was what sold me on a playoff/BCS type change. I was *crying* for UW to be able to play Miami that year, because I couldn't stand Miami at the time and the UW would have *WAXED* them.

And yeah, the voting was BS, too. Miami was arguing they should be included in the National Championship conversation, and had a choice of bowls to play in to show their merit. What did they choose? A home game against a second-ten team, while UW (contractually) ended up in the Rose Bowl against a top-5 team in Michigan.

Miami plays a closer game than expected against a rather milquetoast Nebraska (closer game than final score indicates iirc), while Michigan gets ran out of the stadium.

Still psses me off. :) (I was a friend of Emtman's)

Hell, that season the starters seldom played much after half time, they were that damn good, and Emtman was simply a man among boys. Everytime I hear his name, I recall a specific play in the RB. Triple teamed ( 2 o-line and FB0 and he STILL sacked Grbac and forced a fumble, and then I believe he recovered it to boot. That guy was simply unbelievable in college..... hell that team was unbelievable.

I also remember the next season ( or maybe it was two seasons) the Huskies going down and dismantling the Canes in Miami to snap their "45 game home streak" against power houses like Appalachian Community College and the like. Simply put, Miami wasn't in the same league as that 91' team, and got shellacked with the remnants shortly there after...

Well, whattayaknow.

Sportin' returns from real life adventures to fantasyland.

You had thoughtful well though out insights as a mere manchild, and ya didn't let the bullies bust your thought bubbles.

Hope all is well in your life, and you want to waste some it out here in the wasteland where the crown jewel is this trophy with some old Italian family name on it.

I'm sure you remember how to get those game threads going even if you're wearing fancier duds.

Welcum back.

Hey Oly, how's it going? I can get used to knowing who the mods are and what's considered fair game. The PI forum just wasn't in the best hands by the end.

ObS and Pasadena, thank you. College was the most difficult thing I've ever done, but I that was also what will allow me to live well and enjoy the finer things in life. Student loans are going to be a b****, though. :)

Bob, the feeling's mutual. You're one of the first posters I gravitated to along with RD and a few others. I am working in my field of study (Power Systems Engineering) at the job I wanted to have. I get to remain in Austin and get paid, so I have no complaints. That's some nice gear in your avatar, btw.

BD, I wouldn't really call anyone a bully, but you're right my stay at the PI wasn't always peace and love. We can't all be Muglos. I think this will be where I dump off thoughts and have conversations, but I'm still pretty attached to Field Gulls for game threads. The live update format just can't be topped for that purpose, but I'd rather reflect during the week with you lot. This is a strong community, and though some have left and may never come back there seems to always be new insights brought in every season from fresh handles. Let's keep this going for as long as we can.

I'm doing well, nlbm. My sabbatical starts in a month, so I'm about to be doing really well! Glad to hear you are, too.

I also like the FieldGulls game thread set up, but it can be impossible to follow at times with the amount of activity. But other than those few hours per week in the season, there is no need to pick just one!

SPORT'N.... Great to see you here. So you're 23 & have been part of the Shack/PI for 10 years?? Damn, dude....you were one insightful teenager. I gotta say, it surprises me very little that you graduated with a degree in Engineering & got the job you wanted in Austin. Congrats to you, sir. CONGRATS!!

Now - back to football (real & fantasy, both) - so glad you are back in the mix, my friend. Your slant on things is always interesting...if not spot-freakin'-on. And I'm happy to beat the boys in fantasy football too!

WELCOME HOME!!!

Welcome to the new digs, nlbmsportin.
Mostly the same dysfunctional group so we all feel pretty much at home here.

Glad you are working in your chosen field and congrats on graduating. Consider yourself lucky, as many of us take jobs because of the pay, benefits, or both but don't much like the work.
Sometimes in life ya gotta do what ya gotta do to get ahead or at least stay equal so if you also enjoy your career it's a big plus.
You're always welcome here, so don't be a stranger.
