If my fellow Hawks fans want to be looking up at the Rams the next 5 years or so by all means root for them to win and achieve 100% success on the season in their 2nd Super Bowl in 3 years .they already own Seattle. The best thing for Seattle is a Bengals blowout. Stafford will throw them the ball , you just gotta catch it unlike SF. I hope they get shut out .

A defenseless receiver flag on Deebow then give one to Beckham . They missed the hit on Stafford but a lot of the stuff they just didn’t flag it . At least the refs in the first game were even . Stafford is the better QB but made enough mistakes to lose if the 9srs could catch . Rams have more skill players . But let’s face it . If the 9ers had an above average QB they might have won handily playing Pete ball.
I think the Bengals have a great chance .they are far better then the 9ers . I see their defense as being the main reason Mahomes looked so bad in the second half . 82 yards and 3 Points . Obviously the boneheaded play at the half was on Mahomes but Cincy got Hill on the ground for no gain which is hard to do . If they did that to Mahomes imagine gaffe prone Stafford . Burrows is every bit the gunslinger , more elusive . As many weapons including jamaar Chase . The line is bad but it has not mattered . If the game is officiated fairly the Bengals can win.

The flag they picked up on the hit on Deebow was the absolute right thing to do. I wish they'd pick more of those up. Delays of game are frequently missed and is a weakness that should be easy to correct as they could have a booth ref keeping an eye on the play clock. Had they not missed the roughing the passer penalty on Stafford, I'd say it was a pretty well called game.
I'm not sure that I agree that the Niners would have "won handily" with a good QB, but I agree with you that quarterbacking was the difference in this game.
It wasn't just in the 2nd half that Mahomes looked bad. That last series of the first half he was just horrible. That dump off pass after his first look wasn't there was incredibly stupid. There's no way a pass behind the LOS is going to succeed with the defense as spread out and with such little territory to defend. He should have thrown it away and take the 3 points, which ended up being critical. Mahomes poor play was the deciding factor IMO.

Hawktawk wrote:Defenseless receiver is defenseless receiver . It has nothing to do with contact to the helmet only laying out a player who can’t defend themselves . I recall Kam getting a couple on identical plays. The flag hit the ground and got picked up as Deebow , the biggest offensive star was laying on the ground . I’m not saying I like all the new rules but he was clearly defenseless .
Hawktawk wrote:I agree completely on Mahomes . In the end the 3 points at the half were the game . And they never recovered . Mahomes was also calling for a timeout after the play when they had none. I couldn’t believe it . But they got Dd up big time in the second half . Some of the best back end coverage I’ve seen in a while . Mahomes was befuddled . My son said he folded , cracked . I was surprised . I had Cincy but I didn’t think they could shut Mahomes down after the first half . I figured it was over . Coach Taylor obviously won the halftime .
He hit him with his shoulder and it was to the chest, not the head and neck area. It was the textbook example of how the league is wanting to teach defenses to play within the rules. Being defenseless doesn't mean that the defense can't touch them, which is essentially what you're saying. It looked violent, much line Kam Chancellor's hit on Vernon Davis, and the ref instinctively threw the flag, but it was completely and unquestionably legal.

Precisely. You're on an island, Hawktalk. You're letting your bias affect your otherwise good football sense.
I wonder whose decision it was to pick up the flag, if it was the ref that threw it or another that had a better angle. I'm leaning towards an automatic booth review of hits like those ala college football as they're so bang-bang and look so brutal in real time.

As much as I can’t stand LSU and had probably my worst spectating experience because of their fans, I can’t deny Burrow is the genuine article. It was clear then as it is now that he’s got “it”; on the field and off the field. He’s very intelligent, knows how to lead by example, and puts in the work. And the Bengals are smart enough to realize what they have and will continue to build around him. The Rams have a ton of talent. Stafford is no slouch and with the uncoverable Kupp, they’ll be very hard to corral, but I won’t count out a Joe Burrow led Bengals team as well as a defense that just shut down the KC offense for the decisive second half. I think we’re in for a great super bowl.

Hawktawk wrote:It was violent , extremely so . I’ve seen that flag lots of times and never saw it picked up , especially with one of the better players in the league still flopping around on the ground in front of them . As I’ve said I don’t necessarily agree with some of the rules myself but that’s a call that gets made more often than not.
Hawktawk wrote:It’s not why they lost . That was on Jimmy G. Just not good enough . Not protected well either. I don’t fault him as much for the late pick . It’s 3rd and 13 4 down territory deep in your own end . If you take the sack It’s going to be 4th and 20 at least . He somehow flipped it out and got it to the running back who popped it up . Would have been tough to catch and I doubt the guy expected it but it’s all he could do . Probably will get a chance for a job somewhere but he’s a b grade Qb.
River Dog said… Hey, Sis. As always, nice to see you poking your head in here. BTW, not that it makes a great deal of difference, but the Niners have won the last 6 out of the last 6, which includes two games this season.

Then there was the creepy joke about Brady trading a date with Giselle for his record breaking football that had wound up with a fan . Saying it was bad enough then he started imitating Brady’s voice saying “ sure you can have a date !”truly bizarre . He’s smart and observant , breaks down plays well but his career development in the booth has plateaued with this fan .
Funny about the fumbled snap though . Frankly the Bengals handed it off a few more times than I would have before the kick . People forget how great a play Babs made there. Borderline incredible .
Hawktawk wrote:I like Micheals . I know the pair annoys the hell out of people but one half of Aikman Buck breaks down plays as well as anyone and he will be honest and criticize anyone from a player to a coach to a ref . I can’t stand buck . They did call our Championship .

But it’s a loud affair , lots of arguing between my son who I call mini me on steroidsI’ve actually done color commentary and play by play on small town radio and also sat in with David Heaverlo on his sports talk show as a football analyst many times . Sunday my son had volunteered to cook dinner and couldn’t see the TV so I was calling play by play of 9ers Rams for him from the living room for about ten minutes

Fun . Win or lose its family time .

I had been talking sports with the station owner at a chamber function and he said I had great knowledge and a radio voice and he wanted me to meet his sport’s talk guy . I’d not been following the MLB and didn’t know who he was . I sat in with Dave dozens of times over the next 4 decades . Funny man with lots of friends . Very impressive man cave . Dave gave me an open invitation to make radio broadcast my career at both his stops including KDRM in Moses . I was on air the Friday before 48 and predicted Hawks 44-22 over Denver. Of all the participants I won the contest as I was the only one in the listening area that had Seattle over 40. I sat in on the Monday show after the win which was the cherry on top. Unfortunately I asked to do the show after 49 before it happened and that radio station was the last place I wanted to be . Good times thought. It was a bipolar decision to turn down radio in hindsight . Everyone though I was pretty good . Tuna and I are friends to this day .
