All the hand wringing about contract extensions, unnecessary

They can easily extend the contracts of everyone they want to extend, and still be under budget, under the cap, with money to roll over even.

Yep, which is exactly what many of us pointed out numerous times. The key words are "who" they want to keep, ie Tate could have indeed been kept had they WANTED to pay the PRICE that he wanted. Salary caps are fluid and always have been. You cannot keep everybody, but you certainly CAN keep "core" players you want every time.

I agree what was interesting is on NFL network they said the difference between the deal Tate got from De3t and ours was only 1 mil a year. I do not think money was the reason for leaving so much as being on a pass happy team were the offense gets more credit. To bad I am betting that will start happening here this next season. I like Tate but I do not think he will have as good a season, Stafford is not as good as RW.

With Megatron being the center of attention, its hard to say if Tate will be a beneficiary of that and be free more often.
I think Stafford is decent enough though.

Personally I have little doubt in my mind that Tate will be in the 1200/8td range if he stays healthy ( barring some unforseen shift in offensive philosophy) the guy was good for between 800-900 with the same amount of td's in Seattle, I simply don't see anyway for his numbers to not substantially increase in Detroit, with how often the Lions throw the ball. Add in his RAC ability, and I just don't see anyone realistically thinking it won't be a "successful" change of scenery for him.

I would say that is certainly possible but remember that Detroit is stupid and has been for years. Word is they are high on Watkins and even though they need secondary help more then the niners need an on hand defense attorney I wouldn't be surprised if they drafted Watkins, leaving Tate as the third WR option, which would obviously drop his numbers.

There is no way Watkins is going to last until #10 so I don't think that matters a bit. Tate will do very well for himself in Detroit. Coverage is always going to be shifted away from him towards Megatron and Detroit throws the ball twice as much as Seattle did. His numbers should go up big time.

I think you will hear all sorts of good stuff about Tate in Detroit. Until teams adjust.

They will have to account now for both Tate and Megatron and if they only account for Megatron then Tate will make them pay.
