Here's the story:

Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Geno Smith was arrested on suspicion of DUI early Monday morning, according to King County court records.

Smith was arrested at 2:10 a.m. by the Washington State Patrol and released from a King County correctional facility on his personal recognizance -- meaning in lieu of posting bail -- at 9:27 a.m., records show. No other information was immediately available.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people with such great means can't afford $20 for an Uber.

Well I got mine before Uber but I had money for a cab . Worst night of my life followed by about 18 months of justice system torture .

What a bunch of bs he will go through for being stupid . At least he’s not Ruggs . Hell Mark Few is learning a very hard expensive lesson . With Geno hitting FA it doesn’t help him a bit .

Back in the mid 70's during my heyday as a college student trying to pay my own way through school, calling a cab was cost prohibitive, something that only a guy making middle class wages or better could afford. Plus it was time consuming, sometimes having to wait 30-45 minutes, so there was somewhat of an excuse for driving yourself home when you've had too many. But nowadays, Uber rides are incredibly cheap, you can hail one almost instantly, and you can charge it to your credit card so you don't even have to fish for your wallet. Heck, I've seen panhandlers taking Ubers from their spot at the exit of a Walmart parking lot.

Yeah there’s no excuse . Some people do it for the adrenaline rush I think . Fun till the lights come on or you crash . I have Uber on my phone along with Lyft and 2 taxi companies . I don’t go out much but 20 dollars a ride is cheaper than 15k :D

I highly doubt money was a factor in any way. Probably more like, 'I'm not really drunk, I can make it home' thinking, which is no excuse. I feel bad for the guy, I'm sure he knows it's a big mstake.

Was he speeding or had defective tail lights? Not to bring this up, but I wonder if race had something to do with his arrest? Ducks.

I didn’t want to go there . There will be dash cam footage and likely lapel cam footage as well. He was released on his own recognizance without bail so it wasn’t a Richard Sherman type arrest . The truth will come out . Cameras and tape recorders don’t lie . Cops often do , make up stuff , profile minorities . In my own experience as a white guy arrested by a white Sherrif’s deputy my attorney caught the officer in several lies strictly based on video footage . We will see soon enough what happens . .

The arrest was at 2am in the morning, so I doubt that they could determine skin color in darkness.

There are some cars that will automatically attract the attention of a cop. It's common knowledge that they'll pull over 'hot' colors, ie red, yellow, etc. I also contend that these 'LEM', or law enforcement memorial, personalized license plates, should be illegal as they attempt to influence an officer that has pulled over a vehicle bearing those plates. Same thing with college license plates. A police officer that graduated from WSU pulls over a fellow Coug as noted by his license plate?

This type of bias isn't nearly as bad as it was 40 years ago. I was personally involved with a possible DUI stop when the cop recognized my friend's last name as his dad was a city council member. If the suspect was a good looking babe, she'd get a pass. My impression is that doesn't happen near as often as it did in the past.

Yeah I don’t know why I brought up race. It just sort of got me thinking. There may have been profiling but more likely he was swerving or showing signs of impaired driving.

In reality, anybody drinking and driving deserves to get caught. I got popped over 20 years ago. That was the late 90s, but the same cause and effect was in play. Get caught driving over the limit, get busted. Lame couple of years paying the fine and more, but it sure taught me a lesson.

You need not apologize. You said what was on your mind.

I've gone back and forth on the subject. There was a period of time where legislators were on-upping each other to show their constituents that they were tougher on drinking and driving than their opponent. At the time, I said that they might as well have re-instated prohibition.

Nowadays, thanks to Uber and Lyft, there is absolutely no reason for a person to have to drive after they've had a couple. A ride costs about the same amount as a pitcher of craft beer. Leave your damn car in the parking lot and come back and get it the next morning. And if you are planning on a night out, Uber out as well as back. Problem solved.

I was at Barrett Jackson with my best friend last March . We spent too much time at the bidders bar and were pretty buzzed. I was stunned my friend was planning to drive us back to the hotel . Fortunately I talked him into an Uber . Normally he would never consider driving . He had had enough to lose his sense of judgement . He thanked me in the morning .

Sounds like he's an entitled prick when he's drunk. He was busted for driving his Rolls 96 mph and weaving in and out of traffic w/o using his signals, got belligerent with and quit taking the field sobriety test, told one cop he "had a little dick", refused a breathalyzer, threatened them all at the hospital refusing to let them draw blood...

"I'll f*** every one of y'all up," one officer says Smith told them.

Another officer said Smith told them, "you don't want to see me out of these cuffs, you don't want to know what will happen."

Officers say they eventually had to put restraints on Smith's arms and legs in order to take his blood ... and claim the entire time Smith said, "that we were going to regret this and that we would all be famous for this."

Quite the jerk.

Wow, if that's true, entitled prick and quite the jerk are understatements.

And if he was doing 96mph, it's likely to elevate it to a felony. Sounds like it was pure luck that he didn't turn out like Ruggs.

Welp. That does that . I know you’re allowed to act that way and stay in the league if your a star but when you’re just trying to stay in the league , get a shot somewhere and you do this like this? I’m surprised he was released on his own recognizance without having to post bail. I’ll eat crow right now for suggesting he’s matured. Not much . My guess is he’s toast unless Seattle wants to bring him in for 1.3 million to hopefully hold the clipboard .

To be fair he was arrested by a cone head so he was likely on the freeway . We have a 750 HP Jeep Cherokee and routinely merge at 90 plus . Ruggs was doing 156 on a residential city street after something like 25 shots . I don’t know if 96 on the freeway upgrades the charges . I do know if he tested at over .15 it’s extreme DUI. If he’s had others it’s even worse . He may be well to do but he will be blowing into a blow and go for quite awhile . I feel bad like I would about any of our guys screwing up their life but he’s got nobody else to blame but himself .

Richard Sherman's incident was far worse and apparently, he didn't suffer any dire consequences, but as you said, he's already a star. You screw up as a player living on the fringe like Geno is, you can kiss your career goodbye.

Sherman crashed , hit and run fought cops and family . Now it looks like he’s hurt drawing a paycheck for nothing . But I agree on Geno . Unless Seattle takes a flier on him due to price or familiarity he’s done . Too many guys without a rap sheet .looking for work .

Doesn't sound good. He's out there saying "hold back judgement, I'll have more to say". But even in the simplest situations, you gotta be smart enough to know that you cannot get into it with officers. They are the kind of personalities that generally relish those situations. You lose regardless of circumstances.

Yeah, and I imagine that after all the controversy regarding the police that when they pull over a black man in a Rolls Royce that they had multiple videos and voice recordings to document the arrest. I'll certainly hold back my judgement until we have a chance to hear his side of the story, but it sure doesn't look good.

Sad commentary...for a sad event. I knew a guy from work who was laughing it up over being so drunk he woke up with his car running in someone else's driveway...I sobered up his laughter by asking if he got out and checked his bumper for any blood on it.

Its crazy how these nfl guys dont face severe consequences for their actions. My dui was way less sever then Smith's or Sherman's and yet the prosecutor is insisting I spend a year in jail.
