Niners Game

Postby RiverDog » Sun Dec 05, 2021 6:20 am

Injury report for today's game:

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS at SEATTLE SEAHAWKS — SAN FRANCISCO: OUT: LB Dre Greenlaw (groin), DT Maurice Hurst (calf), WR Deebo Samuel (groin), RB Trey Sermon (ankle). DOUBTFUL: LB Fred Warner (hamstring). QUESTIONABLE: LB Marcell Harris (concussion). SEATTLE: DOUBTFUL: G Damien Lewis (elbow, NIR-medical). QUESTIONABLE: RB Alex Collins (abdomen), RB Travis Homer (calf), RB Rashaad Penny (hamstring).

Weather shouldn't be a factor. Forecast for kickoff is 42 degrees, cloudy, less than 5% chance of rain, light winds.

Niners are on a roll, winning 4 of 5 including a 3 game winning streak. Losing Samuel is a big loss but Jimmy G is healthy and has been playing at the top of his game, has the best rating of any QB since Week 8. As we're all painfully aware, the Hawks are on the opposite end of the spectrum, having lost 6 of our last 7, including the last 3 in a row. This one could get ugly.

For us, the key for the game will be on offense will be our ability to convert on 3rd down, especially with 3 RB's on the mend and without our best run blocking lineman.

Niners 24, Hawks 13.

At some point we will play a good game.
Maybe it will be this week and we will surprise the 49ers.

I have no hope whatever . We’re dog meat . 24-10 9ers . I never like predicting a loss but our D Is going to get chewed up by a better version of the last 2 weeks , run run run and crisp short passes and long drives . On offense we have 3 crippled running backs and a senior citizen . Meanwhile the QB is reading the field like Stevie wonder , truly the worst part of his game right now beyond the accuracy issues . 9ers and everyone else smells blood in the water . I fear this season will rival 2008 for bad football from here on . I’ll watch but damn it’s hard when you went to the top of the mountain and saw the promised land .

I suspect the same old movie from the Hawks, and Kittle will have a huge day.

If Niners do not win this game they will have to walk out with their heads hangin

Yeah, this is looking a lot like the Mora year. We lose today and we'll guarantee ourselves of our first losing season since Pete's 2nd year and at 3-9 would be well on track to match Mora's 5-11.

The Niners have just looked too good recently for me to predict an upset. They've hung 30 in 4 of their last 5 games, including two playoff quality teams. They're in a drive for the playoffs so I don't see them looking past us.

There's 8 teams in the NFC, half the conference, with 6 or 7 losses.

And we can’t even have the draft position debate…. It’s been sooo long since we have been such a mediocre squad.

RW’s pride coupled with his rage at the negative reaction to him/his play begets a W.

Mora won 1 more than Holmgren in 08. At the time I thought it was a quick hook when you consider what Mora inherited for a roster . In hindsight it was obviously a great move . I recall Allen saying at the time he had “ no hope “ watching the team . It’s how I feel now . This isn’t gonna get better . Prove me wrong hawks I have no faith .

It’s worth noting this was Russell’s last win , a nice game by him in the end after getting shut out and 5 three and outs in a row first half at Levi . The only team to do it and we have done it twice this year . I don’t like predicting a loss . I see where Sis expects Russ to be angry and take it out on the 9ers. Just like I expected against the Cards and Skins. Come on Russ , find your mojo .

That’s a good point, HT. I thought the same in those games as well. After the WFT loss, the fans, pundits, and even PC have said less than flattering things. I don’t know. Maybe it’s a crisis of confidence for RW and he needs Trevor?? I just can’t see how they keep losing… though how they have played, nor can I see how they win. #befuddled

The Niners Nick Bosa has 11 sacks in 11 games, tied for 4th most this season. The two Bosa brothers are on track to best the Watt brother's combined sack total.

I truly think the sheer number of hits have taken their toll. Sis I’m going back and looking at plays and he’s just not settled and not confident . It’s hard to watch since he’s such a transcendent player and sports icon . But he’s inaccurate and confused right now and the pundits are noticing .

Yeah, everybody and their dog has been all over Russell this week and it's not going to stop until he puts up a 400 yard, 4 TD performance.

Am I being faithless by just DVRing this game and watching it later if we win, and deleting if we lose? IF we can lose all the rest of our games we get a higher draft pick, FOR THE JETS!!! Seriously, I see us playing better but the Niners should win this game 31-24.

A little less than halfway through the 2nd quarter and we have one first down, and that was via penalty. SMH.

Well, JS ought to be happy. Pete went for it on a 4th and one when conventional wisdom dictated that he take the FG to make it a 2 score lead with 7 minutes.

There was literally no point in going for it on fourth instead of kicking a field goal. Either one would put you up two scores with time winding down. If we lose this game, it falls squarely on Pete's shoulders.

It shouldn't have been that close. WTF are we doing by not kicking the easy FG to make it a 2 score game with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter?

Nice win, and Hawktalk, we won the TOP with 33 minutes to the Niners' 27. I'll buy the Super Bowl tickets if we're playing!

when you're 3-8 and losing has become the norm, going for it on 4th and 1 when conventional wisdom might dictate otherwise is a 'player's choice' -- you know every player wanted to go for it and Pete did it. Homer!

It was an emotionally driven decision perhaps but still a foolish one. We were very close to being 3-9 instead of 4-8 because of it. You got to do what's smart when the game's on the line.

I was only able to watch the last two and a half quarters of the game but it seemed to me Russ was more decisive with his passes and there was more zip on the ball. I only saw one throw that seemed to get away from him. I'm guessing that finger is feeling much better.

It does look like Russell's finger is healing... pretty much the length of time the doctors first predicted he should be out. And does it really matter to the greater scheme of things if we are 4-8 or 3-9? I think giving the players the psychological bounce of life is the better choice and so was the fake punt... Homer again!

I agree with trents. I don't care if it was popular with the players or not. You don't teach good football and nurture good players by making bad decisions. If we lost that game and the players, after the emotion of the game had passed, realized what a stupid call that was, it could cause them to lose confidence in their coach. Besides, with our history in short yardage, 3/4th down conversions, missed 2 pt conversion, it tilted the decision tree even heavier towards taking the 3 points.

I saw more than one get away from Russell, but I agree, he threw the ball better and was more decisive. However, we do have to note how many times the 49'ers shot themselves in the foot via a missed XP, turnovers, and penalties. We got 4 first downs via penalty, several in critical 3rd down situations.

If Penney made it through the game it’s an improvement .

Good win over a motivated hot team . Got a few calls for a change . It’s the best Russ has looked since last 9 ers game . Probably too little too late but nice to see . At least it’s not another 7 days of gloom and doom .

It's roughly the same statistical performance that you said earlier that you'd settle for: 30/37, 231 yards, 2 TD's with one INT that wasn't on him, and we actually won the TOP battle, 33 to 27. Nothing to write home about but he played a solid game, most complete game he's had in a long time.

Catching a break is an understatement. The Niners turned the ball over at about their own 30 three times, committed 10 penalties, 4 of which gave us first downs. You're not going to win too many games with those types of mistakes. It was the type of performance that would have evoked a Jim Mora Sr. "We Suck!" rant.

It was one of the funner games to watch in the last few years.
It was more like a college game in not knowing what was going to happen.
At 3-8 going for it on 4th down instead of kicking the FG doesn't really matter and sets a tone for what remains the rest of the season.
On the negative note, the OL needs some real improvement and we didn't get any consistent pass rush throughout the game so going against
a better team or like RD said one that didn't shoot itself in the foot, it wouldn't have been nearly as much fun to watch and a different result.

Everett's bobble robbed Russ of a second TD. Of everything I saw Russel's night and day change from the last 3 weeks was noticeable. Really the offense should have put up more like 31 points. And no that wasn't the place for going for it on 4th . Take the chirpy and be up 10. Terrible unnecessary strategic blunder especially putting it in the hands of a guy who clearly wasn't very good with ball security the whole day. I dont get it. Passed up 2 50 plus field goals on Heinz field and punted both times in an overtime loss and here you have clear math on your side and he does go. Another case of PC mismanaging the game.

Yeah, I missed the fake punt. I was watching the Red Zone on the TV, heard the crowd roar over the tablet, looked down and thought that Homer had either broken off a run or caught a check down pass. Had it been a more meaningful game, I wouldn't have been watching the Red Zone and wouldn't have been distracted.

One could characterize it as a sloppy game, with the penalties and turnovers, a ball bouncing off a player's foot for an INT, a KO returner carrying the ball in the wrong hand, stupid game management decisions. Jimmy G regressed from how he's been playing recently.

But there was a lot of weird, funny stuff that happened yesterday. Did you guys see Joe Burrow hitting a receiver in stride with a 40 yard or so bomb, the receiver bobbling it backwards and into the hands of the DB he had beaten by a couple steps? If Russell got hung with an unfair INT, Burrow's was worse.
