What would Paul Allen do?

Postby Stream Hawk » Sun Nov 21, 2021 10:42 pm

I am just putting this out there for discussion. Jody Allen is now overseeing “her” Seahawks and Blazers spiral into. She must intervene and hold upper management, PETE and team accountable. Channel her brother’s crusade for success and championship mindset.

I’m too tired to continue tonight since I went to the game. My voice is too hoarse from trying to relive the magic 12 roar. Fans were passionate and we did our part! But poorly-schemed wide open Cards all over the place. Little pass rush to slow down their backup Carroll qb omen. To continue the same pattern as 2nd half 2020, the offense just seemed out of sync for extremely long droughts. Thought we hired an innovative McVay disciple?!!! Something ain’t right is an understatement. We still have talent, but they should try creatively using it sometime.

But the coolest part of the game was my 13 yo son was so pumped and screaming for a win. He couldn’t fathom what has happened to both the D and infallible Russell.

PA would step in and tell PC that he is now in a new role in an Emeritus position, but his coaching days as a Hawk would be done.

I'm not sure he would go that far, but I think he would demand answers as to why things aren't improving and would question giving up
so much draft capital for a swing for the fences. Like Russ said last year Pete has too much power - and Russ is now shown to be right.

Glad your son enjoyed his game although it appears that you may have not been quite as impressed.

There are some that feel that it isn't Jody Allen that's pushing all the buttons and throwing all the levers, that it's the management at Vulcan that is most instrumental in the overall direction of the franchise. Jody is very honest and forthcoming in noting that she's not a football person. My guess is that she is more willing to listen to the boys and girls at Vulcan than she is to a football coach, but I have no evidence other than my gut feel to back up that opinion.

We shall see. Unless there's some type of dramatic turnaround where we win 6 or 7 games in a row, this will be her first real test since she took over following the untimely death of her brother.

That we need upgrades everywhere but QB, Trents. Look at the Pats, BB has retooled them to a bonafide playoff team in just one year after the GOAT left NE. He gets Cheap, good, and young talent, 4th and 5th rounders that pay off. He can own Pete's shirt, car, house, and wife, in any deal. He is doing it with B and B+ WR's, while we argue if we should sign a dumb Azzed Diva WR to a 25 million dollar contract in Seattle. Sorry, Pete is a HOFamer, Billy is top 5 all time.

Pete has too much power. He doesn't have to account for his actions to anyone so far, anyway.

I don't think that the problem is with Pete having too much power. The problem is that the game has passed him by. He's made bad trades, bad draft picks, and he routinely gets out coached. He is accountable, to the owner, Jodi Allen. If she doesn't have the gonads to make a change when change is needed, then that's on her, not Pete.

I think Pete coddles his players too much and as others, have said, doesn't hold them accountable. I like how Bruce Ariens does it. When players, even Tom Brady, blow it, he confronts them in a matter of fact way. He doesn't embarrass the player, he just lets him know that he expects better. I think Ariens strikes a good balance in that regard.

I think the fans have forgotten that Pete is the BEST coach this team has ever had, and question why anyone would want to fire him because of 1 losing season? If you think another coach will flip a switch and they become a great team again? Not gonna happen. You may spend 10 years trying to find someone talented enough to be as successful. There's obviously some issues, and he's the head guy and so is accountable, but I don't think it's that he can't coach. In my opinion that's still a strength. Personnel issues? Likely. It doesn't seem we've done as well as we could in evaluating talent. If there is a failure there, certainly he's the boss, but changing coaches doesn't fix that.

Who said they want to fire Pete because of one losing season? I said before the season ever started that my expectations were a legitimate SB contender, that simply making the playoffs was no longer good enough. This season didn't just happen. It was 7 years in the making, a culmination of bad trades, bad draft choices, bad FA signings.

Every team in the NFC West has turned over their head coach in the past 4 years: The Niners hired Kyle Shanahan in 2017, the Rams hired Sean McVay in 2017, and the Cards hired Kliff Kingsbury in 2019. All 3 have since fielded SB contenders, two of which have gone to the SB and the third currently sitting on the #1 seed. I'm not saying that those facts mean that all we have to do is flip a switch and everything falls into place, but it does prove that it doesn't have to take 10 years.

I'm fully aware of the possible negative consequences of firing a head coach, that we could end up like the Lions or Jets. But by the same token, we could also end up fielding a contender in a relatively short amount of time. It's a risk I'm willing to take.

The PC , JS, RW baby dynasty had a reverse curve. 7-9 but beastquake, another 7-9 year but a bit more solid, just no starting quality QB . Then the mother lode draft in 12 and lets think about this a minute. We keep hearing rookies need time and we had a stout defense but Wilson went 11-5, won on the road and then broke rookie records in the wild loss to Atl. I think he broke the Sammy Baugh rookie playoff passing yardage record by 50 yards, a record that had stood since the 1930s. If PC doesn't get to the hall his coaching decisions and game management, clock management in that and other big games might be a reason. Passing up 3 points repeatedly, trying to ice the kicker but killing the play he missed on. Playing the zone blitz vs Ryan allowing the last second drive in the first place. PC admitted as much after the magical 2013 year when accepting the awards and accolades" We should have done it last year, its on me". Yep

Then of course 14 where Harvin tore the team apart and PC was able to get them to come together for another miraculous trip to the SB. But I will contend with the advantage of hindsight the dynasty died on the 1 in that super bowl , a yard from immortality , an unforced error of biblical proportions, fraught with conspiracy theories of a SB MVP campaign affecting the play call.

It is a testimony to the level of talent and professionalism on the roster at that time that the team was able to continue winning as much as they did. But lets be real. They haven't even been particularly competitive in a single divisional game since that day. The pattern in each loss has been similar. The other team builds a lead as our offense sputters and then we come roaring back and come up short. It didn't happen vs Atlanta in the divisional in 16 as they pulled away. Its the first time I ever heard Russ on the podium not sounding upset enough about a bad loss, a bad game by him, promoting his other interests . IMO he's never played quite the same since 49, stats aside he's extremely risk averse throwing over the short middle, more so all the time. 2 of the last 3 years weve gone down in the WC including Carrols first home postseason loss of his career here. And it wasn't a competitive game. And the 12 is a joke. Nobody worries about coming into Seattle anymore. weve lost like 8 of 12 with fans now. Like Vrabel said when asked about the noise "before the game or after"? ouch. Yeah it is time but it was a magical era.

In thinking about this I believe Paul Allen would demand a long term plan for success. After all he's built businesses that thrive and he saw how we became dominant in the NFL, so
I think he would seriously question or maybe even stop the change in philosophy from building through the draft to selecting good talent in it and not swing for the fences or trading
for a quick fix while giving away draft picks. I think that direction is what's missing today.
