OBJ to Rams

Postby obiken » Thu Nov 11, 2021 9:00 pm

You all know by now, I know. I dont think this move hurts us a darn bit, except by keeping him out of our locker room.

Yes, I too am glad he's not in our locker room. Wonder how much the Rams paid him?

That's Beckham's contract number. The Browns are picking up $4M of it, so the Rams are on the hook for only $3M.

According to Profootballrumors.com:

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has details on OBJ’s contract (on Twitter). Beckham Jr. got a one-year, $4.25MM deal that includes a $500K signing bonus and $750K for the rest of the season. The other $3MM is based on team-based incentives, so the wideout will get a nice payout if the team makes a Super Bowl run. This also means that OBJ could end up earning more with his new team than he was due from the Browns

OK, I stand corrected. $4.25M plus incentives.

The Rams are all in this year considering the Cap hit they will take next year if they keep all of their players and very few draft picks for the next draft
and some other picks in future drafts.

I say yippee. They got the QB killer malcontent . Good luck taking targets away in that scheme . Frankly with the moves they are making it smells a little bit like desperation since they gave up so much already . Maybe it will put them over the top this year but they need Stafford to do something he’s never done which is win a playoff game . He’s had 3 games he played like crap this year including getting schooled by Vrabel . So whatever Rams . Pressure just got far greater and locker room chemistry will last till a few overthrows or overlooks . I wouldn’t trade our top 2 WR with them. Just like Seattle will go as Russ goes they will go as Stafford goes and if he plays like he has a few games already Rice wouldn’t be able to save him .

OBJ wears out his welcome over the course of a few years. The Rams have him under contract for the rest of this year, so he probably won't
be a QB killer, but he will add another dimension to their passing attack. It will be interesting to see how he fits in with the existing WR group.

Insurance in case of an injury to a starting wide out if nothing else. Although if OBJ doesn't get used much he will quickly poison the esprit de core.

The Rams have 3 solid wide receivers in Kupp, Woods, and Jefferson. So long as those 3 stay healthy, I can't see where OBJ is going to get a whole lot of targets.

Like any new relationship, there's a honeymoon effect that will endear both OBJ and his teammates to each other for a period of time, likely measured in months. So for the rest of the season, I don't expect to see any poisonous behavior or locker room disruption. As others have stated, I'm glad that we didn't get him. He's not worth the risk.

They often go with an empty backfield and 4 WRs, so I don’t see an issue getting him on the field.
What it will do is get a lot of single coverage for all of their receivers which should make them all happy.

Robert Woods who feasted on Seattle tore his ACL yesterday . Signing OBJ is looking like an incredibly fortunate move all of a sudden . Even with Beckham they won’t be as effective as woods was a fearless precise route runner with great hands . Time will tell but lots more balls for Odell .

And they will need it with their #2 receiver, Robert Woods, injured and out for the year. Woods is much better (right now) than OBJ, but now the move looks like a predicator for the Rams.
