I received your email this morning and re-upped. Thanks again for running this.

Even though it's just for bragging rights (of which I currently own), it's a lot of fun and keeps your interest in every game.

Joined up. Maybe this year I'll learn the proper rules & have a better showing. Last season I ranked the pick 'em teams in reverse, & I also missed a TNF game which knocked me out of survival.

Ahh, ObS! It'll be great to see you in the mix again.

Once you figure out the confidence points thing, the game is incredibly simple. Here's some of the features I like about it:

1. You can fill your picks out weeks or even months in advance, reducing the chance of forgetting.

2. You can edit your picks and confidence points right up until a few minutes before kickoff.

3, IMO it's far simpler and less time consuming that fantasy football, no draft, no trades, no scouring over the waiver list.

4. Even though there's no money involved, it keeps your interest in every single game, something that you can't say about fantasy football.

So Hawktalk, ASF, obi, sis, and North Hawk, you guys need to sign up. There's no reason not to.

I invited my son-in-law to join and I might be able to recruit one or two others. Hopefully we get a couple more teams before the season starts. Just one week left!

Yeah, this lack of turnout is disappointing. It's hard to garner support & interest when people have been turned off by the politics surrounding sports these days. It's nothing personal. I'm in a family FFL that has seen a 30% drop in participation over the last 2 seasons. We're down to 6 teams.

Actually the small number of teams doesn't affect my enjoyment of the Pickum contests. We've never had more than 5 or 6 active participants in this particular league.

But I agree with you as far as a general decline of interest in sports. I went to a Mariners game earlier this week and even though the team is playing well and is in a playoff drive, I don't think there was 5,000 people in attendance. In addition, there's been a decline overall forum participation, in this forum and was a topic in the other Seahawks forum I participate in as they've seen a decline in the number of posters/postings. The younger crowd tends to favor Facebook and Twitter for expressing their opinions. I have very limited interest in those venues as they tend to be more cheerleader/rah-rah type folks and not the knowledgeable football people like we have in this forum.

I don't do fantasy football or pick'ems. I don't like to lose. I don't like to ever pick against the Seahawks or choose non-Seahawk players. I don't care what most others teams are doing except the week they play us or if we're in a playoff race against them. It's not a lack of interest in sports so much as a lack of interest in anything non-Seahawk.

Actually picking/betting against the Hawks is a win-win for me. I always root for us to win no matter what but if we lose, at least I have a small consolation prize in winning a modest amount of money and/or knowing that I made the right pick, and if we win, I'm usually so elated that I don't care that I lost the bet/pick. So long as it's free...as our Pick'em league is...or it's a modest wager, then you can detach yourself from your picks/bets when a favorite team is playing.

Have you ever tried playing Pick'em? You might find that it heightens your interest and increases your enjoyment of the sport. It sure does for me. Go ahead and join up and give it a try it for a couple of weeks. You might find that you like it. You don't have to commit to an entire season.

Yes. That's why I know what I do. I pick the Seahawks every week. It's a losing proposition. But the fan in me just can't bring myself to pick them to lose. It feels wrong.

I used to feel that way, too. For the majority of my early adulthood, I used to be so optimistic that I expected us to win every week. Then when we lost, it caused me to get really upset, made me feel like throwing a brick through my TV or kick my dog. I've since adapted a more pessimistic attitude, of which you see come through in my posts from time to time. If I expect us to lose and we do lose, then I'm not nearly as down as I expected it to happen. But when we win when I expected us to lose, I feel a much greater sense of exhilaration than I would have had I thought going in that we'd win.

That's why I have no problem picking us to lose. It doesn't affect my enthusiasm one iota, as anyone within 1/4 mile of me can testify whenever we score a TD. I'm just as passionate of a Seahawks fan as the most rabid cheerleader type.

I agree, Fantasy Football is a lot of work. But this Pick'um league is different. It doesn't require nearly as much work and decision making as Fantasy Football.

If you're interested, send me a PM and I'll walk you through it. It's so simple that a caveman could do it!

So I have been doing Pick Em pools forever, but never one that had "confidence" points attached like this one. It's pretty cool, really have to gauge every game and very strategic. I guess if you fall behind in the standings and want to make up ground, the upset picks you make are the ones you will go for more points, which means you could take yourself right out of it.

I like this format! But never been in a pool for purely pride, haha. If I ever get to a game and meet one of you and you beat me in the standings, first round will be on me.

I track and update standings both in confidence points and straight up so there's actually two ways you can win.

After week 1 Agent 86 leads straight up at 9-7 with three of us (Variant Offense of Concern, Jshawaii and myself) tied for second at 8-8.

Variant Offense of Concern leads the confidence points with 85 points followed by myself at 82 and Jshawaii at 80.

Good luck in week 2!

On the year now Variant Offense of Concern has a 15 point lead in confidence points and Agent 86 leads straight up at 21-11.

Good luck in week 3!

How many of you are in other Survivor pools and had the Ravens like I did yesterday? What a crazy ending, and if I end up winning my Survivor pool, I will have to make sure I somehow get in touch with Justin Tucker. Complete man crush on him this week! :D

I didn't have them in the survivor pool, but I had laid 13 confidence points on them in our Pick-um league. I wasn't watching on live TV, but I had ESPN's game cast on my tablet when he made the kick.

Ironically, Tom Dempsey's record breaking 63 yard field goal was also a walk off game winner against the Lions. Dempsey broke the previous record by 7 yards and he did it outside vs. in a dome like Tucker's kick or at 5,280' ala Matt Prater. That's not to take anything away from Justin Tucker. He might as well go get fitted for his gold jacket.

Riv won week 3 in both the confidence points (112) and straight up (13-3)!

On the year now Variant Offense of Concern continues to lead in confidence points (297) while Riv has assumed the lead straight up at 33-15!

Good luck in week 4!

Oh, and we have our first strike in the survival pool as well: SLC Hawk did not make a selection and got his first strike. So far so good for everyone else.

For week Agent 86 won both confidence points (94) and straight up (11-5)!

On the season Variant Offense of Concern still hold the confidence points lead with 385 points and Agent 86 has moved into the lead straight up with a 42-22 mark.

Over in the Survival pool most of us got our first stike when the Titans lost leaving just Agent 86 and Addition by Attrition with no strikes. SLC Hawk was eliminated.

Good luck in week 5!

On the year now Variant Offense of Concern now leads both straight up (54-26) and in confidence points (499)!

There were no strikes in the survival pool this week.

Sorry no update this week, I have been at a conference in Boston all week and didn't realize until just before kickoff (business dinner at a monster sports bar in the Boston Garden) last night that i hadn't made my picks for the week!

I'm waiting for a connecting flight in Chicago on my way home right now, I'll summarize last week tonight or tomorrow.

Riv won the week in both confidence points (92) and straight up (11-3)!

On the year now Variant Offense of Concern leads both in points at 591 and straight up with a 65-30 mark!

No damage done last week in the survival pool.

Good luck this week y'all!

In week 7 Variant Offense of Concern won the confidence points with 77 while Jshawaii won straight up at 11-2!

On the season Variant Offense of Concern still leads both contests with 569 points and a 73-33 mark!

Good luck in week 8!

In a brutal week 8 we had Vegas wining the confidence points with 74 and tied with Agent 86 straight up at 9-6!

On the year Variant Offense of Concern still lead in points with 723 and Agent 86 has taken the lead straight up with a 81-41 mark!

Meanwhile in the Survival pool we're down to Addition by Attrition (how appropriate) and Agent 86 as the final two as the rest of us bit the dust with The Bungles loss!

Good luck in week 9!

I also had the Bengals in my main survivor pool where the winner gets a nice prize (something around 3000 hot dogs ;) ). You only get 1 life in that one, so I am done. Can't believe they blew an 11 point lead with 5 minutes left to the Jets and a QB starting his 1st ever game after they beat the Ravens the week before. Such is life in the NFL.

Yep, congrats Agent 86 on winning the Survival pool! Your check (unlike your trophy, which is virtual will show up on your player page on Yahoo) is virtually imaginary, which on the plus side means you can imagine it being for whatever amount you wish! From me a hearty Huzzah!

In the Pick'em pool meanwhile ObS won week 9 both in confidence points with 62, and straight up with at 9-5!

On the year Variant Offense of Concern leads the points race with 761 and our Survival Champ Agent 86 has the edge straight up at 88-48!

Good luck in week 10!

In another very difficult week (having a hard time remembering a year with as many such) Jshawaii had himself a fine week winning both the points battle (56) and straight up (8-5, I guess Yahoo just ignores ties ...)!

On the year now Agent 86 holds the lead in both races with 809 points and a 94-55 mark!

Good luck in week 11!

And today is starting out to be more of the same. At halftime, the top seeds in both conferences (Green Bay and Tennessee) are trailing at halftime vs. two sub .500 teams.
