KJ Wright

Subject was brought up over at the blue and I thought we might want to have a discussion here about him here too. He's said he's not willing to give a "home town discount" to finish out his career here so I think Pete is letting the market set his value. Jordyn Brooks got better and better as the season went on and showed in the Giants game he can be at least a suitable replacement for KJ. I wouldn't expect us to even make KJ an offer until after the mandatory minicamp in in a couple weeks when teams typically solidify their rosters, and then only if his asking price comes down.

He could come back here as it seems he's not going to get what he was hoping for elswhere but I'd say he's less than a 50/50 chance to be a Seahawk this year.

I agree. I'd love to have him back as last season was one of the best in his career IMO, but I can't see paying him top dollar, especially considering that we have a very capable replacement in Brooks. As far as the odds of him being a Seahawk, that appears to be completely up to KJ. I can't see our FO budging much.

This one is hard for me. I love KJ and he’s been one of my favorite Seahawks since I met him (& his family) the day before taking over the starting job from Aaron Curry. I’d love to see him back, but it’s looking less and less likely.

I agree his last year was one of his best and it sucks for him to be a FA during this revenue depleted off-season as he’d have gotten close to his asking price somewhere, I’d bet.

He's going to play somewhere. He's just too good not to get a job unless he has a minimum price he will play for and teams don't want to pay
an older player. His experience and leadership would really help some younger teams so I would think that would be his destination.

Yeah, that's the downside of free agency, that players like KJ, who is not HOF great but has been a solid, contributing player for the best decade of football the franchise has ever seen, can't retire with his original team. It's a story played out all over the league as well in other major league professional sports.
