The Draft

No surprises so far. TL to the Jags, Other Wilson to the Jets. IF the 9ers take Jones they are a bunch of idiots. NO Alabama QB has panned out since Joe, there is a reason for that.

Niners would be better with Mac Jones, he fits what Shanahan does well. Big risk with Lance. From a Hawk perspective, I'm glad they chose Lance over Jones.

My buddy says Trey Lance 2 to 3 year project. I guess he's skinny and can't take hits. He got some small hands for such a tall guy. 9 1/8? Damn. Russell's hand way bigger. That Pitts guy 10 5/8 hands.

A tiny ass WR at number 6? That's weird. He must have speed or something.

Hes not all that small, Smith is 166 lbs, he's the small one. Waddle is 6ft 200.

Well the Bears couldn't get Russ but they may well have gotten the next best thing in Justin Fields. Great move!

Well thats one thing RW had and no one saw. I just think it 2-3 years max with TLance, but as River and Cbob have to remind me every year, they are prospects not finished. I think Fields is the steal of the draft. Trent Dilfer when asked what he has to work on, Dilfer responded nothing, nothing I can think of.

Waddle listed at 5 9.5 and 180 lbs. Kind of short for WR nowadays.

I totally disagree, I dont see the downside to this kid, and I am not a big fan of Ohio State QB's. I think the bust is Zac Wilson. The problem with the Bears is they have no Offensive weapons.

Your right guy I was going off ESPN and according to CBS sports he is listed at 5-10. Course Steve was 5-11 190, too slow and too short. Of course he was a HOFamer!!

I admire Fields toughness and he is physically gifted. However, I don't see great anticipation with his throws and his footwork is ok, not great. Of course, all that can be coached out of him. He certainly was a dynamic playmaker for the Buckeyes.

Unfortunately for both Z. Wilson and Fields they went to teams historically bad at drafting QB's. Big challenge for them both to change that narrative.

The Jets seem to have a very good management team now and they also get the 2nd pick in R2 so they could get a stud RB like J. Williams to take some of the load off of
Zach Wilson early in his career or they could add another big time OL to protect him. As well there are some WR's that are still there to give him some weapons.
In all, with all of their draft picks the next few years they should be able to get themselves out of the basement and give Z a good chance to develop properly.

He is an elite athlete. The Ohio State/Chicago Bears QB stigma is nothing....but the one negative I have heard is that he takes too long to go through his progressions. You can do that at Ohio State where you're two steps above the competition, but not in the NFL. The ability to process info quickly is maybe THE most important QB factor.

That critique is a joke to NFL coaches I have heard. Its the pre draft pick apart. I agree Ohio state QB's have a bad history but every rule has an exception, he is it. He got one good weapon in WR Robinson, and a good defense. I worry about the rest. A lot of times its not the player but the fit. Rogers, Brady, and RW, were all great fits for their teams, now they are not.

Tick Toc... we're on the clock. Do we trade or do we pick? Normally when the 'hawks pick, this is when the TV goes on a long break and we find out 20 minutes after it happens. We'll see.

The pick is in -- and he's a returner / gunner / and fast receiver. Can never go wrong with picking speed. I really thought we'd trade down.
nice to see Mack Strong, but letting Macho Man do the mic would of made the pick more exciting.

Slot WR and return guy? I thought we could go defense, but a 3rd option might help those times we stall.

We needed a WR too, and he's a good one. I got no problem with the pick. Here's what the scout for the draft tracker I'm using had to say about the pick (CBS Sports):
D'Wayne Eskridge WR, WMICH
Height: 5-9, Weight: 190

Burner who can win from in the slot and hit home runs and runs angry after the catch. Like his route-running skill. Older prospect. (Chris Trapasso)

We needed a WR, so that’s filled. He’s a threat to go to the house every time he gets the ball.
I suspect nobody wanted to trade up, or they knew we wanted to trade down and offered
grossly insufficient value in return in hopes of getting a great deal.

I like the pick. Honestly, I thought he might go a little before 56. I really thought they would trade down, there is good depth in this draft in rounds 2-4, IMO.
Not as explosive as Percy Harvin, not as sturdy as Golden Tate, maybe something in the middle?
It's been a little while since we've had a consistent threat in the return game. Let's hope he can be that guy.
I like Eskridge way more than WR Tutu Atwell who the Rams chose at 57.

I just did a bit of research on him and he fits the need of a 3rd WR and can play from the slot as well as
run jet sweep types of plays that Waldron might like to call -or at least motion that we have seen from the Rams.
One thing is clear, if he gets a step on the defender, he’s probably gone to the house. It seems strange that
Lockett is now probably the 3rd fastest WR on the team, but that’s a good thing.

5-9 190 really, thats all the research I need. I am out sorry, another Paul Richardson lite! I told these guys at the time a better pick would have been Woods out of USC, who has played for the Rams now for 7 years. Forget about the fact that we needed help on the line sAGAIN!!! But no, I think its a grudge war now with PC, I am not going to do what the experts or fans want, its all about ME they aint running nothing. ! I am with River now, one more year and I am off him for good. WE needed offensive or Defensive lineman. You just dont find them after the 2nd or 3rd round. WR's are a dime a dozen!! But maybe RW can play alley hoop with him before Aaron Donald buries him!!

Let's hope he uses his little body as well as Lockett uses his. I've always been amazed at how well Lockett uses his small frame so well to get position on larger defenders on deep balls. And I think Lockett only goes about a buck seventy five.

But a better prospect was Marshall out of LSU who we could have taken Trents. Heres the book on him: 6=2 1/2 200 W dont need another Smurf!

Expected to be a big-time tester.
Exciting height, weight, speed combination.
Averaged over 104.4 yards per game in 2020.
Playmaker who averaged a touchdown every four catches over last two years.
Size to bang on undersized corners down the field.
Strides and separates on go routes.
Quality ball-tracker with second gear to chase it down.

He might have been a better prospect overall but he doesn’t project as a pure slot/jet sweep guy which is a fundamental key to the McVay- Waldron system. They didn’t really have that guy on the roster and Marshall certainly isn’t that guy. Lockett is actually the best guy they had there, but the reality is you want him on the outside with a slot/jet threat inside. That’s not to say Lockett won’t play inside at times but I imagine in Waldron’s system we’ll see him more on the outside. Eskridge is a great fit there. Yeah a few more inches would be ideal (really Percy Harvin is the perfect guy there), but IMO Eskridge is a better pick for us than Marshall. If we had a chance at losing Lockett or DK I’d agree with you, but because we have Lockett locked up and DK here for the foreseeable future I like Eskridge more.

I am not saying this pick just sucked mykc14, I just saying you have to draft for need, and WR was not as big a need than OL. Did you see the Smurf the rams took? 155 lbs! I hope they both make it, but this is why I like Wheaties better than Rice Krispies. Snap, Crackle, pop, and their out of the league. Look at Ricardo Lockette, and he was 6-2 210, one good pop by a Dallas safety and he was done.

We did need a 3rd WR having lost Moore and the FA guy that was injured and never played for us. We really only had Swain left as the 3rd.
Eskridge can play all 3 WR positions and be good at them and I've heard some comparisons to Steve Smith who wasn't very tall either but very effective and
had a long career. Eskridge also played CB and had a reputation of being very aggressive at DB. He thinks it helped him understand what the defenders were
doing to counter him and where the weaknesses of zones are. With all this speed at WR, it may mean more room underneath for one of the receivers to move
the chains and get critical yardage. Maybe even more TE involvement.

Like ASF, I too wanted or at least expected some more help along the LoS with this pick, but his skill set might just give us an insight into what Waldron is
expecting to do with the Offense. Some of the analysts thought that he was being targeted by the Rams and we scooped him before they could so they
selected Atwell (fwiw).
