c_hawkbob's annual Three Deep Mock

Postby c_hawkbob » Mon Apr 05, 2021 3:14 pm

So I'm watching NFLN and Path to the Draft comes on and the first thing they say in "Just 24 days left until the NFL draft!" And I figured that was my cue so here we go! Not much to work with this year but the usual rules apply:

Scoring:
- 1 point for each player that we draft
- 1 point for the correct round drafted
- 1/2 point for each player from your mock that we sign as UDFA’s
- 1/2 point for a player you have listed first in a round.

Here's mine:
Round 2 (56)
1- Spencer Brown, OT, Northern Iowa

2- Brady Christensen, OT, BYU
3- Joe Tryon, Washington, LB/Edge
Round 4 (129)
1- Simi Fehoko, WR, Stanford

2- Quinn Meinerz, C, Wisconsin-Whitewater
3- Khyiris Tonga, NT, BYU
Round 7 (250)
1- Teven Jenkins, OG, Oklahoma St

2- Orlando Umana, OG/C, Utah
3- Jayson Oweh, Edge, Penn St

Three words: LOVE YOU BOBBY! & two more: thank you!

I will get my guesses together & submit them. I actually think the Hawks should hire me!! I’ve had some damned fine picks over the years that, in hindsight of course, were far better than the people “they” took. I believe it boils down to all of my experience as a lezbo couch potato football watcher (though I did play 3 years of Powder Puff in high school 40 years ago @ mediocre QB & SAM LB (got tossed from a game for aggression) that gives me an edge). Jody, Pete, and John (& their massive staff) should chill with me - poolside - while I tell them who I think they should take. I’m super gifted. ;) ;)

Bob, I assume you are angling for points selecting QM in the 4th? I’d be geeked to get him @ 56.

Love you too Sis and yes, Meinerz is in round 4 just to get his name on my sheet. Truth is once I got my #1 pick for each round down it seemed as though all the rest of the guys I knew anything about or seemed a fit watching Pro Days on NFLN were not really round specific this year.

Swinging wildly:

Round 2 (56)
1- Tyson Campbell - CB , Georgia
2- Jackson Carmen - OL, Clemson
3- Alim McNeil - DT, NC State

Round 4 (129)
1- Marlon Tuipulotu - DT, USC
2- Paulson Adebo - CB, Stanford
3- Deonte Brown - OL, Alabama

Round 7 (250)
1- C.J. Verdell - RB, Oregon
2- Milton Williams - DT, Louisiana Tech
3- Chris Evans - RB, Michigan

I think the Hawks will stay true to form and try and trade #56 to get more picks, but I have no idea where - May go down and get Eric Stokes CB Georgia

Ok. Knowing full well they will trade back, here is my best effort. If I change it before the draft begins, I will do so by editing this post so poor Bob doesn’t need to try track the craziness.

Round 2 (56)
1- Quinn Meinerz, C, Wisconsin Whitewater
2- Benjamin Saint-Juste, CB, Minnesota
3- Walker Little, OT, Stanford

Round 4 (129)
1- Kendrick Green, C, Illinois
2- Israel Mukuamu, CB, South Carolina
3- D’Wayne Eskridge, WR, Western Michigan

Round 7 (250)
1- David Moore, OL, Grambling
2- Tamorrion Terry, WR, Florida State
3- Ben Cleveland, G, Georgia

Good one TS, but I see CJ Verdell as a 5th or 6th rounder. I hope he makes it but too many fumble issues. 2 major fumbles as a NFL rookie and you are out.

Yeah, I've seen Verdell in the mid-6th, so they' would may have to spend something, but that late who knows where they'll actually go.

Seeing as how Cade Mays is returning for his senior year and not going to be in the draft I've replaced him with Spencer Brown out of Northern Iowa.

Here I go again...

2.56
D'Ante Smith, OT, East Carolina
Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue
Kendrick Green, C, Illinois

4.129
Israel Mukuamu, CB, South Carolina
Shaun Wade, CB, Ohio St.
Divine Deablo, S, Virginia Tech

7.250
Marquez Stevenson, WR, Houston
Racey McMath, WR, LSU
Tommy Doyle, OT, Miami (Ohio)

I think PCJS trades down a few times from 56, makes the first pick in the 70-75 range and ends up with 6 picks total.
Please no more trading a next year 6th for a this year 7th. It has not worked the last 2 years. (Ursua and Sullivan)

Operating with an old man's memory (I'm 77) it seems that I have been winning this pretty regularly. Right, Bob?

A. I was surprised JS didn’t trade back.
B. I love the pick; it addresses one of our needs.
C. There were several options that also would have worked @ 56, I was kinda surprised that PCJS passed on the centers, especially QM.
D. Eskridge is gonna be fun & FAST!
E. Go Hawks!

I heard a comment attributed to JS that they couldn’t complete a deal to trade down.
We’re still thin along the DL and RB. Maybe one or both can be found today.

If you’re interested in seeing what Eskridge is about, search for his highlights.
He looks like he can do a lot of things.

The quandary I have was that the way I worded the half points this year; I wrote it as having a pick as your first in a round counting a half a point. which, while you got a half point for Tamorrion Terry, ObS had Eskridge as one of his primary picks.

My problem is I can't honestly remember if I usually restrict that to having the first player listed in the correct round or not ...

Either way though the way I have it worded this year I think I've gotta call it a tie between you and ObS.

Can anybody remember if I screwed this up this year or it's the way we've always done it?

Who cares? A tie with OBS is just fine.

AND... I’m competitive. In the past, if you selected the right person in the right round as the #1 spot for that selection, they received a 1/2 point. Choosing him 1st slot in another round meant nada. Again...no worries. I’m happy to share the winnings (was it a million this year or two?). I just think I win!!!! ;) ;) ;) :D

Actually I do think you're right, I'm just getting old ... I'll clarify the wording for next year and raise a toast to your prowess this year. Cheers!

Congrats to the winners! Thanks bob for doing this and being official scorekeeper.
Next year should be more fun with 7 picks as of now. No first, but 2 fourth round picks. Maybe we'll get a comp pick as well.
