Kudo's to the D

Postby TriCitySam » Tue Dec 22, 2020 11:39 am

Seahawks D is now 14th in points allowed, up to 26th in yards......after being at the bottom, hard to move up! 31 sacks in the last 8 games.

Yes, it's been quite a transformation. Getting Adams back has helped immensely, and we've had some guys rise to the occasion, like D.J. Reed. It also hasn't hurt that we haven't seen a lot of high profile QB's recently, as the last 4 starters we've faced has included Carson Wentz, Colt McCoy, Sam Darnold, and Dwayne Haskins. Not exactly the Murder's Row of quarterbacks.

Dunlap and Jamal back seems like the big difference makers.

Jamal Adams is super excited about being in the playoffs. Hopefully that energy will carry over to the entire defense. Adams really wants to do something in the playoffs.

I hate being a Debbie Downer, but in terms of points per game, our last 4 games have been against offenses ranked 25th, 31st, 32nd, and 26th. Clearly our competition, or lack of it, has been a factor in this defensive resurgence.

Oh, I agree. Getting Adams back, the addition of Dunlap, the emergence of D.J. Reed, and the maturation of Jordyn Brooks are all contributing parts of this new 'D' that weren't present earlier. Nevertheless, competition matters, and we haven't seen a lot of it lately. That changes this Sunday as although the Rams aren't the Kansas City Chiefs, they aren't the J-E-T-S Jets Jets either.

Problem is River, as you know, when a team coming off a loss, they play way harder than normal. We barely winning, may have been a blessing in disguise. WE HAVE to get pressure on Geoff, period.

This is for the division, I doubt they will play any harder than they would have otherwise.

More importantly, it's for the playoffs, at least from the Rams perspective. They haven't locked up a playoff spot yet. The loss to the Jets was a wake-up call for them. It's a bigger game for them than it is for us.

We still have an outside chance at HFA so I don't expect us to pull off the throttle this week, but I fully expect that next week, along with a lot of other teams, we will be resting some of our starters and treating Week 17 like a preseason game. That's one of the reasons why I don't like this new playoff format.

I like 7 teams so Ill make the trade. The more fan bases that get bonus games the better. IMO it's a playoff game for both teams . None of the HFA is going to mean as much this year other than familiarity and comfort with surroundings but Seattle wants to go in on a roll.If GB beats the Titans its over for HFA an I think we will know that result when we are playing. I could see tennessee winning that .

You are what your record says you are. We are a better, healthier team right now. Our defense is as solid as its been this time of year since probably 2014 or 2015. We are suddenly loaded at running back including Carson who is as good as anyone, Hyde who is above average and Penney who can make a house call from anywhere on the field when 100%.

Normally the last question we would have is QB play but it's our key to the postseason IMO, Still Russ is a far better QB than Goff this year. Our punter is having a great year as is our FG kicker minus extra points.Obviously they have Donald and Ramsey, 2 disruptive players holding down their defense. Id go very run heavy right at Donald and be very careful with Ramsey. He followed DK around and shut him down pretty good last time but so did AZ first time around against DK and it didn't work out twice.

I say we win 24 -17

In that case, why not expand the playoffs from 14 teams to 16 and do away with first round byes altogether? Heck, if we added an extra weekend, we could include all 32 teams. It would be hoot watching the 15-1 Chiefs demolish the 1-15 Jets 48-3. The Cowboys and Jerry Jones would love it! No more biting their nails off worried that they're going to miss the playoffs yet again. Everybody wins!

I dont agree, certainly not this year. My guess is the 7th team, the bonus card will be a better team than at least one division winner right now and probably most years. I recall the 7-9 Hawks winning and the weeping and wailing around the league as teams with better records stayed home. If you point out where I said everyone should make the playoffs I'll be happy to amend. I guess "the more" eh? I wouldnt go any further than the 14 teams. I just think this rectifies the current situation where WFT will win with an 8-8, 7-9 record and a better team may sit home. Its a playoff all year as it is. Any sport is.

The problem with rectifying the WFT situation as you are suggesting is that you are essentially doing away with divisions. There would be no point in winning a division because there is no advantage given in playoff seeding. You would essentially wind up with one giant 16 team conference. No more Bears-Packers, Steelers-Ravens, or Seahawks-49'ers rivalries with the division championships on the line.
