Pete for 5 more years!

Postby obiken » Sun Nov 08, 2020 8:44 am

According to Adam Scheftner of ESPN, we are stuck with PC for 5 more years. There goes all hope of dominating in the trenches, at least till I am baby diaper material!

Obi, if 'dominating in the trenches' was the sole criteria for pro football success, the Dallas Cowboys would have had 5 Lombardi's in the past 10 seasons.

Pete can coach my team for as long as he wants, but I was a little surprised at the length of the agreement. The man is fricking ageless. Coaching an NFL football team has to be one of the highest stress jobs in the country.

Yeah, no kidding! Brady's QB rating was 3.8. That's not a typo. Three point eight.

Gotta hand it to Ramblow. What an intuitive football mind!

He looked 43 years old and utterly befuddled. the thing Belichick did the best was keep him upright but Brady isn't good when he's getting knocked around a lot.

As for PC wow 5 years  was his deal about up or what? That makes him almost 80 although with the Allen money if it goes sideways they can buy him out. No salary cap on coaches. We need a new DC for sure.

I hope PC brings in somebody on his defensive staff that isn't from his own coaching tree, maybe not as a DC, but at least in an advisory role. I think he needs another perspective on defense.

That's a good point. Sometimes an outside eye can see things those within the system can't.
And they may be obvious. Perhaps someone who has an Offensive talent who can point out the deficiencies.

I agree. I hear a lot of people clamoring for Dan Quinn, but do we really want to bring in a guy that has put together a defense that's currently ranked 28th in the league? In the last 3 years, the highest Quinn's defense has been ranked was 20th in 2019.

We've drafted very poorly on defense over the past 3 or 4 years, and it's ironic as we've done a reasonably good job of drafting on offense. Pete really does need to get a new set of eyeballs.

Ok, time to commit Treason! I think if we could get Urban Meyer as our coach, I would be off Pete in a NY minute. What was PC before RW? Russ and Metcalf are all we have right now, because a Petey. Billicheat cant leave NE? Brady did. IF I were Belichick, I am gone to Jacksonville and a Trevor Lawrence, come on. Before Tom he won 46% of his games. Pete was no genius before RW he was mediocre at best. IF RW goes down, time to move off PC.

I think Urban Meyer would be a fantastic replacement for Pete, if Pete were to retire.

Urban quit because he couldn't deal with the stress any longer. That stress would only go up if he became an NFL head coach.

Edit: At least at the college level, success breeds success when it comes to recruiting. The head coach has considerable control over the destiny of the team. In the NFL, success is penalized.

He quit because he and his wife were thrown under the bus by The OSU. Just MY HUMBLE opinion!

How do you mean they were thrown under the bus? Never heard that until now. What I do know is that he experienced medical problems on the sidelines during a game, seemingly stress related.

His wife had to quit or be fired as she didnt report the Sexual Harassment complaint, on one of Meyer's Assistant's. Meyer as you know was suspended. I am not calling the man a liar, but come on, I have serious doubts that he left a job like OSU over health.

Obiken, Wow! Didn't know all the back story about Meyer's wife. I did some research and there is plausibility to what you say. But her mistake and her firing/resignation would not necessitate Urban's resignation. And I believe the debilitating headaches Meyer was experiencing were happening well before the abuse thing broke:

"The 54-year-old Meyer has an arachnoid cyst in his brain that causes severe headaches, and had shown obvious effects of being in pain on the sideline this season . . . At a packed news conference, Meyer explained that the headaches became severe last season during Ohio State's game at Penn State and have become a persistent problem this season." https://local12.com/sports/osu-buckeyes ... e-bowl-day

So his decision to resign may have been due to a combination of things.
