mykc14 wrote:Yes, after passing on Griffen I was hoping something else was in the works. Dunlap is a good pickup for us. He should be able to be an 7-10 sack guy. His cap hit is only 4 mil this year and they have an option to keep him next year for 11 mil. I like the move. Like Bob said he's not JJ Watt, but neither is Watt. He's also not Ngakoue, but he is a legitimate pass rusher with upside. He instantly becomes our best pass rusher and he isn't bad in the run game.

So this is either a 1 year signing or they may have to renegotiate his contract - maybe convert some to a signing bonus or other move.
There's no dead money involved so they can just cut him at the end of the year if it doesn't work out. If he plays well they could sign him to a contract to reduce that number, but at the end of the day it is a really good move for the Hawks. It doesn't fix the pass rush but it does help.

I was thinking more of the Cap hit next year on his current contract.
But to give up on him after trading away BJ Finney?
They can't be that dumb...

I can understand the excitement and anticipation if we had actually traded for JJ Watt, but lets be realistic about this signing. Cincy's blog seem to agree that he's old, over the hill and they're glad to see him go. At best, he's a stopgap for us right now where it looks like there are many other old, over the hill DE's seem to be 'trade' bait from other teams that are coming on-line before the trade deadline next week.
Everson Griffin is a prime example of why 30+ year old DE's have limited use. Signed by Dallas and then cut by Dallas.
...sadly, even an over the hill Dunlap is better than anything else we have on the roster right now.
If that's a true statement, we have bigger issues to deal with going forward.

c_hawkbob wrote:Dunlap had more sacks and tackles last year (9/63) than Griffen (8/41) did and is 2 years younger so I'm not sure I get that he's the one that's over the hill. Whatever personal issues he had with the coaching staff this year aside, I'm perfectly happy getting Dunlap instead of Griffen (though I'd have said the same of either).
I know huh, even if he gets injured we didnt give up much to get him.RiverDog wrote:We'll see. One thing's for sure: We can't get any worse than the 32nd ranked defense.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/126 ... -major-way... how can a person like Lynch positively influence a locker room?
Lynch was arrested in 2009 for a gun charge and suspended for four games in the 2009 season. In 2010, Lynch, despite being a millionaire, was in trouble for stealing $20 from a woman in an Applebees. And of course, 2012 brought about his DUI arrest.
So who really cares in Lynch made the 2011 Pro Bowl or stunned the Saints with a run for the ages. Lynch is trouble, and for all of his talent, he had no place on the Buffalo squad.
The Bills got rid of a troublemaker and in turn got a lot. They let their own talent develop to a level that they might have never known existed. They even got two decent players in the draft. And more importantly, they didn't get the bad publicity that would have come with Lynch's newest error.
c_hawkbob wrote:That was all wanting out of a losing organization. Remember, Lynch was seen as a trouble maker in Buffalo too. Getting on a decent organization can have a great effect a player.
c_hawkbob wrote:You're right we can't, but I'm sure glad we're swinging for the fences on this one. Especially because at such a low cost this one doesn't carry a great amount of risk.
