ESPN Power Rankings

I generally don't get too excited one way or another about power rankings, but I couldn't help but to take note of this one:

I can't recall us being at the top of a major power ranking. Perhaps in addition to our 5-0 record, that it's a franchise first.

Well, I can’t either....but I also can’t believe the offense can continue to salvage these games from a historically bad defense. Truth is, we could easily be 1-4. I know the “D”’s are all behind this year, but we’re not even close. So I have a hard time with the rating.

There's no doubt that our defense sucks and their performance in our first 5 games definitely isn't Super Bowl worthy, but we haven't allowed an outrageous amount of points, our red zone defense has been fair, and our rushing defense is ranked 7th. Plus they've come up huge in a couple of critical situations.

If we were looking at our team in a vacuum without respect to other teams, I wouldn't rank us that high, either. But since the Chiefs lost, and a bad loss at that, I can't see any of the other undefeated/untied teams as being head and shoulders above the others, so I don't regard our ranking as being outrageous. No one's blowing the doors off the hinges.

With all due respect to Bob, your also what your stats say you are, and we’re dead last in total defense, 29th in 3rd down conversion (opponents) and 21st in PPG. That said, it’s been really fun to watch and hopefully when we get back in week 7 we can get a healthy D playing together for a while and start to gel.

The only stat that matters is the score at 00:00:00.

This is a really weird season. If you would have told me at the beginning of the year that we'd be ranked dead last in total defense and that we'd be 5-0, I would have had you committed to an insane asylum.

We're lucky that we haven't had our bye week messed with. Although I normally like having it later in the season, it's coming at a good time for us as we should be able to get some key players, like Adams and Brooks, back in the lineup by the time we face the Cards on the 25th.
