I understand our defensive ineptitude but I'm baffled at our offense.

We’ve been off offensively all game, which happens sometimes, but this is at another level. Two screens in a row?? Come on.

Finally... still a lot of work to do, but at least it’s something. Let’s go D big half here. It’s time to step up. No Cook should help.

That’s a fumble... balls out before his hand goes forward. Should’ve been a TD for K.J.!

I've got it... they were partying after the 49'ers loss and forgot they had a game today.

That was a studley TD run by Carson! It's like two different games, first half vs. second half. When the Hawks came out of the tunnel at the end of the first half you could see the energy difference immediately. They were sleep walking the whole first half.

Carson! As bad as that first half was this 2nd half is showing what the Hawks can do. Let’s put this thing out of reach.

Now, we seem helpless to stop them when they have the ball. The Vikes' OL is manhandling our DL like they did in the first half.

Yet we won the game because of our Defensive Front 7 and the stops they made when it mattered the most. Cody Barton was the leading tackler of the game. It did seem either the Vikes got 8 yards or nothing all day, and mostly the 8. The stats for the game are boggling. They ran 2x the plays and had the ball for 2x the time of the Seahawks. Their running game almost had more yards (201) then we've given up all year, combined.

There were a lot more of those "8 yards" plays than "nothing" plays. But, we stopped them at crucial times. With our defense as porous as it is, there will be more of these nail biter games before the season is over. If Zimmer had gone for the FG instead of running on fourth down we would likely have been on the short end of that game's final score.

The Vikes did a great job of scheming for that game. They correctly analyzed our weaknesses on defense and assessed their own strengths on offense (running the ball and play action) and were able to almost leverage those variables for a win. They have a great OL and tailback. Thankfully, not every team we face is a good as strong as they are in those categories. It was a tough matchup for us.

That’s what happens when you slant your DL. If you slant correctly you you stud them in the backfield, but when you slant the wrong way you open up running lanes, especially when you are pulling guys. When we slanted the wrong way our LB’s were being blocked by pulling linemen. When you slant you base your slant direction on keys. I imagine the Vikes were doing things in the running game that they don’t normally do, causing us to slant the wrong way more than we have. Also, the Vikes ran more on us than any team we have faced so far and just based on the law of averages we are going to guess wrong more when they run more.

The announcers did a good job of explaining why Zimmer made the right decision by going for it. Kicking the FG would have kept it a one score game. They make the first down, the game's over. Worst case scenario was leaving us the ball with 97 yards needing a touchdown with under 2 minutes and just one timeout. Even with our porous defense, I'd take those odds every day.

In my mind, the more controversial decision for Zimmer was when he went for 2 with 3:39 left in the 3rd quarter. That's pretty early to start trying to figure out a final score. Had we kicked a couple of FG's in the 4th quarter, that one point would have come in awfully handy, and as it turned out, it was the difference in the game.

We're 5-0 for the first time in franchise history.

It was a strange game for me. I was calm all through it until after the last TD, then got
pretty anxious when all the Vikings had to do was get into FG position. I was worried
about one big pass completion.

One big completion or a stupid pass interference penalty. I was the same way. It wasn't until that last incomplete pass that was ruled a fumble before I breathed easy.

Obviously its great that we keep winning these close games. Obviously we have holes that need to be fixed and these ugly games expose those. To get them exposed and win is a best case scenario. Although we were touted as a top 3 rush defense in the league most knew we hadn't really been tested in that regard. Now we see that obviously it's a weakness too, hopefully Snacks fixes that and Brooks can get healthy and play better than Barton, because those are two glaring areas of weakness.

One thing to keep in mind is that our DL was manhandled for sure but perhaps by one of the best rushing offenses in the league. D. Cook was the leading rusher in the NFL coming into the game. Not every team will be able to do that to us. And it must be kept in mind that our defense was on the field far too many minutes and I'm sure they were gassed by the middle of the third quarter. It's almost a miracle that we won that game, given the huge discrepancy in time of possession. Minnesota executed their game plan exactly like they wanted to and we still won the game. The whole thing is just incredible!

It's great to see the proficiency in the passing game we have achieved by turning Wilson loose but the down side of that is all those long completions and quick strikes leave our defense on the field for more time.

Hawks have 4-5 losses coming in the next 6 weeks.

Except for Carolina you have not beat a team with a winning record.

Now the rubber meets the road, all championship teams ahead

Yeah that win against Carolina was a quality win! It was a close one though. I think the final score was like 5-2 or something... maybe I’m misremembering something.

Just an FYI, Peter King of SI says we really need to make a move for a quality DE, River. I agree but who, and with what? We are mortgaged to the hilt. What about putting Barton at DE hes got a ton of juice!

Barton isn't a DE. He's 6'2", 237.

I don't know who's available. It's too bad that we didn't re-sign Clowney when we had the chance. But at this point, we're going to have to play the hand we were dealt and hope someone can rise to the occasion.

Of course we need to make a move at DE!! There aren’t a lot of options out there but maybe a guy like Kerrigan from Washington or possibly Fowler from Atl... Kerrigan is 32 but has been productive in his career, while Fowler has been OK for awhile. Who knows what it would take to get either one. They aren’t great solutions but they would help and we are in win SB mode now. If the Cowboys start losing a few games they might be willing to part ways with Everson Griffen or maybe even Aldon Smith. There are options, not great ones, but there are so out there and we need to put out every effort to help our defense.
