It will be interesting to see what he signed for and why the Hawks couldn’t have signed him. He was the piece they needed at this point to call their off-season a success. At this point their pass rush is worse than last year, which was absolutely pathetic. They have a championship caliber team at every position group except OL (which is still decent) and DL which is just bad, we will Have the worst starting DE’s tandem in the league next year. There is no excuse for it. We could have had Griffen for 6 mil, Fowler for 21 over two years, or Campbell for a 5th rounder. If we don’t seriously challenge for a SB this year it will be on JS and PC for not taking care of a premier position.

Definitely sucks C-Bob, but I have a feeling that although most of us held out a bit of hope, we knew deep down he wasn't coming back here. He would have already signed. I agree something smells fishy, guessing Clowney felt slighted by the Seahawks initial offer and never let it go.

It's why I never believe anything a player says in the media about how much they love such and such place, and how much they want to be back and enjoyed their time there. I think Clowney was looking for the best 1 year deal he could get to maximize his performance and then get his big contract next off season. Don't think he felt Seattle was that place given his year last year and their lack of pass rush to help him pad his stats. He got alot of media attention in the offseason that despite how good he is, he didn't help the defense in Seattle do anything noteworthy.

It's gonna have to be a pass rush by committee this year, it can't be any worse than last year can it??

Reports are $12M, 1 year. Yet he's said to have turned down more from us. There's something we don't know.

Interesting -- ESPN reports 1 year @12 million. Yeah Bob, I thought we had offered him 14-15 million a few months ago, when he wanted 20m. I think we pulled our offer or Clowney just didn't want to come back after we 'dissed' him. Glad he's not in the NFC.

EDIT: not so fast...

There is a personal angle that might be in play. Clowney's DC in Houston was Mike Vrabel, the current HC with the Titans. Clowney's best season, 9.5 sacks, was when Vrable was the Texan's DC/linebacker coach. That could explain why Clowney turned down a better offer from us.

Well, I wouldn't call him a 'jerk' just because of these unusual contract negotiations, especially during these unusual times we've all been going through. He's never said or done anything that would cause me to call him a jerk, at least nothing I'm aware of. If he truly is heading to the Titans, I'll wish him luck.
