I see the NFL approved covering the first 8 rows of seats to "protect" the team, and provide advertising space. I've been a season ticket holder since 1983. Since my seats are row 8, it will be interesting to see how they handle this....and if the advertising is profitable, maybe they'll make this a permanent change. Obviously you can't buy Charter Seats anymore, accept on the secondary market (at a premium).

That's one of many conundrums the league must resolve if they do something between full stadiums and empty ones and shows why I'm pessimistic about any fans being allowed to be in attendance this season. The logistics seems to make it impossible to overcome.

The way this virus is going, I'm having my doubts the games will be played.
In my mind, there are too many questions regarding what might happen if a player or more than one tests positive.
Would they not play and what if one of them was Brady or Aaron Donald, or another top player that might change the
competitive positions of teams? What might happen if 4 or 5 starters on a team test positive? Or even worse, it
sweeps through a team such that more than half test positive? It will be interesting to see how they plan to get past
those hurdles if they should come to pass.

I'm skeptical, too. Teams in MLB and the NBA are already having multiple players test positive, and football is hugely more complicated. The assumption was that the outbreak would be at a very manageable level by August 1st.

What seems to be a likely strategy is to delay the opening of the regular season and hope that things settle down by the end of September. It's a foregone conclusion that there won't be any 70,000 crowds and unlikely that they'll have any fans at all in attendance.

The Packers just sent a letter to their season ticket holders notifying them of changes for the 2020 season:

Although the organization remains optimistic, there is a possibility that Lambeau Field will be unable to host fans for games this season.

At this time, the team is preparing to have fans in attendance with new policies and safety measures to allow for appropriate social distancing, which will require the stadium's seating capacity to be significantly reduced. Face coverings also will be required, and other necessary precautions will be in place.

I caught a part of an Australian Rules Football game last night and it took me about 20 mins to realize there were no fans in the stands.
They did what I thought was a pretty good job of using recorded fan noise during the game. If I didn't see the stands, I wouldn't have
noticed.
But I wonder if it affected the performance on the field by the players? We'll never know for sure.

I'd rather that they broadcast the live sound from the field than create artificial fan noise. I've been to plenty of football games where there's been fewer than 100 spectators and there's plenty of sounds coming from the sidelines that they could tap into, although they'd have to wash out the 4 letter words.

I'm not sure if there's going to be a competitive advantage won or lost due to the lack of crowd participation. We are supposed to have one of if not the biggest HFA's in all of football yet last season our record at home was much worse than it was on the road.

But whatever type of product we're treated to, I'll be watching. I'm getting pretty starved for live sports.
