I think that’s a fair contract for both sides. He’s not as
appreciated as he should be IMO, and he can test FA again in
a short couple of years.

Well, I don't agree that he's under appreciated. He had a terrible year last season. I suppose you can rationalize it by saying he missed 6 games out of the gate, but even when he returned, he was a non factor in all of our remaining games.

However, based on what we know he's capable of, I think it's a fair contract. It came in pretty close to our expectations. If I recall, we were thinking around $10M.

Hopefully he can get back to form and earn that money he wants. He started off on a great trajectory, then had a setback last year.

Reed was playing on a sprained ankle for many if not most
of the games he played. i think we’ll see a much different
player this year if he stays healthy.

Bringing Irvin back is a desperation move.

Not really. Irvin is 32 years old, so he still might have some gas in the tank. He had 8.5 sacks in 13 games for the Panthers last season. That's over twice as many as anyone on our team. We won't get that kind of production out of him, but it proves that he still has capability.

It might be a bit of a desperation move as many of the better pass rushers in FA
have signed elsewhere. I don't think Irvin has the same speed and quickness he
had in his first few years, but that might be made up for in experience. I doubt he
is going to be an every down player, but as a situational player in a rotation he might
be quite effective. I sure hope so.

I think it's pretty obvious that he's not going to be an every down player. He wasn't an every down player when he was with us before.

I haven't seen any contract details, so it's pretty hard to determine if this was a good move or not, but he's excited about coming 'home', so to speak, and the fact that Pete and John would even consider resigning him indicates that he's not likely to create a locker room problem as was the rumor 5 years ago.

He was weak against the run. Too light in the pants.

He's not going to be an every down player unless it's due to injuries.
