The 2020 NFL Combine

Postby NorthHawk » Sat Feb 29, 2020 11:08 am

So is anyone watching the NFL Combine?

I've been checking it out as much as possible and there are some players that might be available for us in the late
1st and early 2nd that might help as well as others all through this draft.

Some of the players that stood out for me are Chase Claypool, WR; AJ Dillon, RB; Antonio Gibson RB/WR.
The OL class looks pretty impressive, but the most athletic Tackles will probably be gone before we select,
however some RT's that fit what we want (typically hulking roadgraders) might be there for us as well as
some pretty good looking Guards for our system.

The DL is going today and tomorrow and the tv coverage starts at 1pm PDT but NFL Network is replaying some
of the early days prior to todays start.

I don't get NFL Network, so I haven't seen any of the combine yet.

I'd be interested in how the offensive linemen perform as with as many question marks as we have (Britt, Iupati, Ifedi, Fant, Hunt) it would seem that we might be taking one early in the draft.

It's said to be a good draft for OL, but the best OT's will be gone by 27 however there should be some Centers and Guards that might be plug and play
and there will probably be good value picks at T in the early to middle rounds (late 2nd and early 3rd). That's if the media types can be trusted to know
what they are talking about.

It doesn't look like there is obviously anyone special as a pass rusher that could be available for us.
It means we will have to really commit to Clowney and probably re-sign Reed and maybe another
player or two on prove-it type deals. However there are always some players that surprise the
league by being passed over a number of rounds but turn out to be pretty good. Let's hope
we find one of those.

Clowney has made a few positive remarks here lately about the prospect of his resigning with us. As long as someone doesn't come out and offer him some outrageous $25M+ deal I think we'll get him back in the fold. I'm still very luke warm on Reed. He had a very poor year last season despite having Clowney out there demanding attention, but we might not have a choice.

Reed had 2 things going against him, having a sprained ankle and
missing the first half of the season. He never really got untracked.
That might help us in negotiations.
I think re-signing Clowney has more importance now that the Combine
results are in. Maybe some players will have great Pro Days to make
this class better.
