Change DC??

Postby Klanky » Mon Jan 13, 2020 4:10 pm

It probably won’t happen but should the Seahawks make a change at DC? Was reading another article, and had a whole list of stats on the defense under Norton, and they are downright terrible in every category except turnovers.... as in league ranking.
Stats don’t always tell the story but in this case... there is a case for maybe looking at a new DC, Pete’s in charge and is suppose to be defensive guru so not really sure on why they play the scheme they do and all.... but a shakeup in some regard might not be a bad thing.... some of it’s probably personel some probably coaching, just as the team moves on from players we might be best to cut our loses with Norton as well.... but who could/ would they get that’s better IDK

I'm ready for a change. The pass rush schemes were as uncreative as I've seen on a playoff team in forever.

The biggest rap on Norton was that he stuck with his base defense too much, but I'm not sure how much control he had over that decision. It could have been more out of necessity than desire or Pete could have been the man behind the curtains pushing buttons and throwing levers.

I'm not sure if there's a good upgrade available. I heard some mention Wade Phillips, but I'm not sure if he'd fit with Pete's style or not.

I think a change at DC is definitely on the table, as well as other changes.

I'm not sure about a DC change, but you never know. I do think that from everything I've read and heard from PC,
they will be pretty active on the FA front and maybe emphasize Defense in the draft. They need pressure on the QB
as well as a good run stuffing DL group. Some of the pieces are already here, but there are some glaring holes to fill.

Edit:
They can start with re-signing Clowney. He wants to play for a contender and made a special visit to see Schneider
to tell him how much he enjoyed being here.

Sometimes a great LB coach isn't the best at DC. I'm sure Norton is an incredible motivator, but DCs have to be able to see and adjust quickly. Then again we don't have the best personnel right now. We gotta upgrade the secondary more and get some more pass rushers.

Wade Phillips is 72 years old. We already have the oldest head coach in Pete. We need young blood.

We could try bringing Gus Bradly back. What is he doing?

He's the Charger's defensive coordinator.

Well, I'm of the opinion that it would change little, as this is PC's defense and I have a hard time believing Norton is doing something other than what he wants. The played a certain style based upon their talent (or lack of), and given that, their PPG was (22nd) was 6 spots better than total D. Anyway you put it, they have to get better and that means better talent on D line, safety and corner. You could be more aggressive, but not sure the back end would hold up.

Talent is the key. They just have to find a way to create pressure with 4 down linemen like they could in the SB years. It doesn't matter who the coach is,
if there is no consistent pressure, the Defense will have troubles. In the games we did create pressure, the Defense did very well.
Free Agency and the Draft will tell us if they are successful this off season.
