Kendricks Sentencing Hearing Set Back Again

Postby RiverDog » Wed Sep 11, 2019 3:45 am

New date is Nov. 21st. His football career will be over by the time they actually have the sentencing hearing.

But at least we know we'll have him for over half the season.

And for the 5th time, Kendricks sentencing has been delayed once again. It was scheduled for this Thursday, but it's been postponed until February of next year, or after the Super Bowl.

Doesn't seem to be high on the judicial priority list, does it.

The court didn't give a reason for the postponement, but the article does say that it's not unusual for these types of hearings to get postponed multiple times and that in some cases, it's the defendant that requests the postponement.

Schneider must have had a suspicion that one way or another, Kendricks would be allowed to play the entire season.

The linked article says that any of the 3 (defendant, prosecutor, or court) could ask for a postponement, but he's cooperated and
made some type of restitution, so it's not as if he's a menace to society.
As well, since he's earning $4.5 Million, maybe that's factoring into any fine he might be getting and if he gets a full year salary
it might be more than if they fined him after he only had made 1/4 of the year as it's possible he could be cut. That's a bit of
a stretch, though.

Although they'll never make it public, I agree that the court might be taking into consideration the factors you mentioned.

Setting aside the fact that I'm a Seahawk fan and that Kendrick's availability increases our chances of success, it's my opinion that the court ought to be striving not to tear down his life and allow him to pay his debt to society with as little disruption to his career as possible. It's a victimless crime and as you said, he's not a threat to the public.
