Really Excited about the Offense this Year

Postby idhawkman » Tue May 28, 2019 7:20 am

I saw this interview from Fluker and what he says about how the offense is more in tempo already than last year.

I really like Fluker on our team. I think he has a good fun side to him also. If you read the post above, you'll see his sense of humor when reading about him in a Smart Car and then he tops that with this re-enactment of Ciarra around the RW deal. Lockett plays RW.

Are you excited for the offense this year?

I'm expecting a much better start than last year. Most of the starters will understand the philosophy
and their roles within it. As well, the players will have had a year where they trust the system more.
Add in new plays or expanded playbook and we could do pretty well on Offense this year.

Russell played horribly in our first two starts last year. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with an unfamiliarity with the offense, but if it was, it won't be a factor this season. Our opener this season is against the Bengals, who had the worst ranked defense in the league and is arguably one of the weakest on our schedule, so the natural expectation would be for the offense to play well in our opener.

But from there, I honestly don't know what to expect. We have to travel to Pittsburgh where we've never played well and then host the Saints at home, both games in which we're likely to be the underdog.

Me and Cbob both commented on Fluker's impact on our offense last year and if you remember, RW was scrambling and ineffective because of the right side of our Oline. It wasn't RWs grasp on the offense in my view.

I'm not so scared of Pitt since they lost Bell and AB. The Saints will be the first true test of our mettle and I expect us to have the advantage because of home field.

I love Fluker, he's my favorite O-lineman since Chris Gray! (note the difference between favorite and best, nobody's ever gonna be better'n Walt, but then My favorite LB was Isiah Kaczynski ...)

I wasn't so much a Gray fan but I'm with you on Fluker and Walt.

I remember your feelings on Gray the Warhorse. Not the best player, but he gave us everything he had game after game for years.

I think of Chris Gray in the same manner I used to think of Joe Nash. Not the most talent in the world but he held his own.

What I said was never about what a great player he was (though he was, by all but his own teammates, grossly underrated), which is why I noted the difference between "favorite" and "best" ... Gray was never the best guard in the league, he may never have even been the best guard on his own team, but he was a real character with a unique sense of humor, which is why I liked him so much.

I had to chuckle a little as I think it was you on the old PI that I argued with a bit. I thought Gray was good but the last few years he was just getting beat too often. Looking back I now wonder how much that was due to Locklear and Gray trying to cover some for him. That all said, I do agree that Gray gave everything he had, I just thought he didn't have much left to give the last 2 years he was with us.

That was you and I arguing about Gray. The guy hadn't missed a game in 10 years or something like that. He gave it all wherever he played. I felt that deserved some respect.
