Seahawks Draft Needs

Postby NorthHawk » Wed Apr 24, 2019 6:50 am

As the draft begins tomorrow afternoon, I thought I'd start a thread about what we need to add this year.
Obviously pass rush is at the top of the list now that Clark has been traded, but I think the following is
something that we also have to consider.

Interior pass rush. With QB's getting rid of the ball faster like in College, we need more interior pressure
to go along with an Edge pass rush.

Nickel back. With Coleman gone, there is a big need to replace his cover ability. There are 3 or 4 Safety's
that are fast and quick enough to do that plus they might be better tacklers. As well, the Pats stymied the
Rams Offense by putting their S's up to the LoS and took away their horizontal plays. That put the
emphasis on Goff to win the game. Look for opponents to copy that against them.

OL. As always, we need more OL. Iupati and Fluker will probably not make it through the year without
missing significant time to injury. As well they are on 1 and 2 year contracts so getting a player now
who is physical at Guard could be on the menu. As well, Ifedi hasn't been extended, so they may be
looking for a Tackle or 2 in the next couple of years as Brown is getting older.

WR. Baldwin got hit by the injury bug last year and has had 3 surgeries this off season. There was
talk earlier that he might retire, so WR can be a need with the focus on the slot.

TE. Vannett and Dickson are on the last year of their contracts and Dissly is coming back from a
bad knee injury. TE might be looked at, too.

RB. We lost Davis this year and last year none of the RBs got through the year without missing time.

CB. Pete and John always look for DB help later in the draft or FA and good competition is always a
good thing. Maybe they see one of the Safety's like they did with Flowers last year as being a player
that could convert or be a solid backup.

Edge rusher, or a Bennett-type inside-out rusher, is going to be at the top of our wish list, and there's supposedly a number of them that we could get with one of our two first round draft picks, which probably helps explain pulling the trigger on the Clark trade this season rather than waiting till next year.

Running back seems to be a plug and play for us. All 3 RB's produced well when called on, so I'm not keen on spending a high draft pick on one. Too many other fish to fry.

I also think that OT might be a position we'll look at. This is more than likely Ifedi's last season as I doubt that we'll pick up an expensive 5th year option. We might also be interested in a Mike as an insurance policy if we decide to part ways with Bobby next season.

Agreed on tight end. It seems to be a featured position in Schott's offense. But I don't think we'll select one any higher than in the 3rd.

Things sounded pretty upbeat about Baldwin's prospects at recovery which might lessen slightly our need for WR, but even so, it still ranks up there with DE as a must have position.

I'm with you on the inside out pass rushers like Bennett, but I don't know who those are.
I would like them to select Jeffery Simmons even though he has an ACL injury because
he's a top 10 maybe top 5 talent. He just won't be available until maybe November if
his recovery doesn't hit any snags. He's been described by some to be a lot like Fletcher
Cox but with a better pass rush.

RB, later on and some to look at are Rodney Anderson from Oklahoma or Benny Snell
from Kentucky. They are both hammers that might be able to pick up some carries
to keep Carson fresh for the whole year.

First off, we probably will trade down on the 21st and probably the KC pick, so you should start any conversation with a pick in the 2nd round, so you're not going to get an 'elite' pass rusher or DT. I wish they would trade both those picks to go up and get the DT from Alabama or someone at that level, but JS is 100% in trading down so it's more of a crap-shoot as usual for us at the top of the draft.

We need a Receiver that can actually run a route over the middle of the field and i understand a lot of "B" receivers this year, so that should be filled.

I think there might be an elite pass rusher for us in the 2nd this year, the pool is so deep.
There should be some very good DL into the 3rd round, it’s that good.
