Finally, President Trump did something I can get behind. Kudos.

There seemed to be wide bi-partisan support for this which makes me wonder why it took 10 years to make it happen. Regardless, I think it is a good thing, too.

Agreed, and that's coming from a guy that at one time was a big supporter of the 3 strikes you're out, lock'em up and throw the key away movement. Boy, was I wrong!

I just watched a Nova(PBS) episode entitled "Addiction," which traces the opioid epidemic that we've been going through and how screwed up our criminal justice system is. It's quite an eye opener.

I'll post something in the bad week thread so as to not hijack this thread about the opioids issue.

It's not the first thing he's done I can get behind, but yeah, kudos.

It was a good bill all around. Credit to both parties for coming together to do something to better the nation.

Excellent bill. Not sure it was just HE who did it but sounds like he wants to sign it so kudos. Maybe hes hoping it will reduce the jail time for him, his kids and his cronies :D :D :D :D
I couldn't resist ,to the shock of nobody :P :P
seriously this is some substantial legislation. way too many people wind up in the justice system and its almost impossible to get out.

I'll bet money right now that neither Trump nor his chlidren do any jail time. Best thing that will happen is he will be out of office. If Mueller doesn't get the dog and pony show going, Trump won't even get that. He'll get some slap on the wrist while he goes back to Trump Tower. Government can't justify this kind of expenditure for anything less than the president.

I don't like the guy, but this needs to get going as the trial alone will last until the end of his term. If this is nothing more than a Democratic power play to push him out of office in 2020, then it will have been very costly for nearly nothing.

Mueller's report just got watered down this week. REad about it in the bad week thread.

I agree that it's unlikely that any of Trump's family, or Trump himself, serves any jail time. As much as I despise Trump, I am very reluctant to crucify people over non violent, victimless crimes. I'd settle for some very hefty fines.

Clinton's impeachment and Senate trial only took about 3 months, so there's really no rush, but like you, I'm anxious for Mueller to wind up his investigation.

I'd say that's a 50/50 proposition.
