RB leaves NFL combine because "God told him" he'd be a hawk

Im personally not a big fan of players pulling stunts like this. When the Hawks DON'T draft him, what then? Does he beg his way onto our practice squad if no one drafts him?

I will say though, it is funny how Seattle is now a popular destination. It's amazing how much things change when the team is successful.

Free Agent, maybe?
Who would draft him knowing he would rather be somewhere else?
They need to know they have full buy in for each pick otherwise it's a waste.

He can do a walk-on at a tryout camp.

Recall, we got DL Benson Mayowa last year who went that route...and he's still on the roster.

Now, I don't know if his God can get him the Number 8 he sees himself already wearing, but there is no number 8 on the current roster.

So, either he's done some research, or the heavenly bureaucrats did, or maybe this guy is just lucky at roulette.

If they guy doesn't figure he will get drafted anyway, what has he got to lose?

You want a feel good story? .... find a better one than this one ... I'd love to read it.

This is not a story of a guy committing suicide by poisoning himself in front of the religious right who are running the combine, it is a story of hope.

Same thing I thought NH.
If I had a dream like he had. I could have thought of a more intelligent way to have mentioned why I left the combine, without tipping my hand.

Hmmm, well...interesting.

He's considered a late round pick, but who knows?

Regardless,I think we're a yr away from drafting another franchise RB candidate to compete with Michael.

Not so sure it would be Micheal or Turbin he would be "competing" with. Ware is still floating around, and while I know quite a few liked the guy, I didn't see anything that made me think he was worth either the pick, or the spot on the team. Versatility is nice, but he didn't strike me as explosive in any way. Sounds to me that this guy might actually be a "complimentary" back, undersized, but fast, and elusive. I like Turbin, and I like Micheals even more, but neither fits that scat back role, and this guy just might. If he is sitting there in round 7, why not take a flier on him? ( although to be fair, the whole god told me to thing screams crazy at me).

Because God does not care if the young man, plays football for the Seahawks, nor do I believe for a second, that god cares about which team wins while doing"god told him to skip a workout" so he can play on a team, in a sport, isn't the truth. He can believe what he WANTS to believe, and do what he WANTS to do, hell, I even said take a flier on the guy, didn't I? Why yes I did. He can believe and act the way he wants, to each his own. Doesn't mean it makes it plausible, anymore than a killer that says "god told him to", plenty of people use it as an excuse for actions that are deemed questionable, I have no issue with God, or the thought that he may "talk to people" though I think he has bigger fish to fry, I have issue with people using it as some sort of excuse to avoid things, or justify their opinions on things.

Faith is great and all, but at the end of the day, God gives us free will, to do what we will with it,and allows us the ability to decide what is right or wrong, he doesn't tell us to do specific things so we can get what we want. Which is what this young man is saying happened.

"The steps of a righteous man are ordered by God". I'm not saying it applies to this RB but none other than RW has said he believes God put him in Seattle, and I am very thankful he did.

God can do whatever he wants. If he can say "let there be light" and speak the universe into existence "he can cause a man to rise from his bed and go 1000 miles to do his bidding". Its all in the book, take it or leave it but we are all pawns on the big chessboard and some get to be Kings by the power of the ultimate Kingmaker. I don't think it, I know it....

I'm with you HC, but I do think there is one flaw in your argument. The quote I read from the kid was that it was his dream to play for the Seahawks, not god's dream for him. In leaving the combine, he said god told him this would allow him to realize his dream. So as I read it, it was more god saying to him if this is what you want then do this.

Personally I have lived hoping for direction from god in areas of my life, sometimes I felt I got it, sometimes not. But I do agree with you. I don't think he cares if we play football, or who we play it with. I don't think he values Russell Wilson the QB over William Russell the garbage man. I do think that he puts people in our lives that allow us to achieve our dreams. I don't know if that will happen with this kid, or he will end up on Lithium. I do like that he has dreams, and I hope that if nothing else god is interested in our dreams.

Interesting. Apparently you believe that you can speak for God, but God can't speak to you?
You just told us what God thinks as though you understood the mind of God, and yet this player is the crazy one?
HC, I love you man but you're out of your depth when you are talking about the Bible and or Christianity. No offense meant in saying this, but you don't know much about either of those things, and really, you can't know much about it, as you have said yourself, you're not really a believer.
I'm not trying to say that you shouldn't comment on religious topics, just that you may want to keep in mind that, you're an amateur at best, as someone who doesn't believe.

The Bible teaches that you cannot even see the Kingdom of Heaven (much less reach it), unless you are born again, (undergo a spiritual rebirth), because you are dead in sin, and as such do not possess the spiritual eyes (spiritual awareness, if you prefer) to even BEGIN to comprehend what you are talking about.
In other words, explaining real faith to a non believer is essentially the same a telling a man who was born blind, what colors are.

When talking about these things, you are essentially the equivalent of a blind man telling sighted people what they should feel when viewing a rainbow.

As a Christian, that is perhaps the most judgmental, spiritually incorrect thing I have read in some time. Not going to comment any further than that as we are way off topic as it is.

So then, are Jesus words also too judgmental for you? I realize that sounds snarky, but I am literally asking, not intending to be snarky. I ask because He's the one who said it. He's the one who said that unless a man is born again he cannot even see the Kingdom of GOD. He's the one who talked about people with no eyes to see or ears to hear.
If it bothers you, telling someone who has said that they are not really a believer, that they are spiritually dead, and are therefore, "blind" spiritually, then the words Jesus spoke must offend you also because He said that He came to offend, in fact he said, Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. "For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW;…

Bob, I didn't have to look hard or even look at all, that's the whole POINT of the Bible!
Mankind is a fallen race, fallen into sin and rebellion against GOD, and are all born spiritually dead. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of GOD.
GOD promised a Messiah to rescue us from our fallen state. He came (Jesus) as a necessary sacrifice, to pay the price we could not. If we believe in his sacrifice, through faith and the power of His Word we can be spiritually reborn, and have his word written on our hearts.
But until that happens, the Bible teaches plainly that, we are spiritually DEAD and unable to even comprehend the truth of GOD'S word. For it is by grace through faith, (and even that faith is not of yourself, but a gift of GOD) that you are saved.

Telling people they are spiritually dead and lost may seem like a mean spirited thing to say, but the Bible teaches us that it's a kindness. The greatest of all kindnesses.
If you knew that a bridge was out, and that a school bus full of children was barreling towards it, would you do everything you could to let the driver know to STOP and turn around?
When I say that people (who admittedly are not believers as such) are spiritually dead, and spiritually blind, my intent is not to offend, though that may happen. That is the whole POINT of the Bible. It's a man screaming at the bus that the bridge is out, and the driver needs to stop and turn around.

When someone says that those who claim to hear GOD are crazy, then my response is going to be, no, you are just deaf.

That's your "whole point of the bible", many others have a far different predominant take away from it.

I'm not going to get into a theological discussion here, it's just too much writing and I have trouble composing long posts anymore, so I'll leave it at the fact that the bible is many things to many people, some of which are diametrically opposed to one another. That's why there are so many different flavors of religion based on the same book.

It's all good Bob, I wasn't wanting to get into a theological debate either. I will say though that, the Bible teaches one primary thing, that we're all lost and in need of a savior. All other teachings are secondary to that.
PEOPLE teach many other things based on misunderstandings of the Bible. They misunderstand because they are spiritually dead and cannot understand.

But I'll drop it, there's little that can be gained through continued typing.
I only wanted to point out that from my perspective, I am not crazy if I claim to "hear from GOD", it is just that you are deaf.
How is calling people crazy any less offensive than calling people deaf?

One quick glace at the boards and you know that it is the off-season lol.

Look - contrary to what many believe - the Bible is a work of men - many men - written, translated and edited a significant amount of times over a couple thousand years.

It is not the 100% word for word of God faxed down from heaven.

For example, the first gospels of the New Testament were written "decades" after Jesus died.

For those who are interested in more facts and educated opinion and guesses on the orgins of the New Testament anyway here is a link for you.

It is definitely the off season!

No offense, but I would recommend not putting much stock into PBS' teachings about the Bible.
They are the proverbial blind leading the blind.
PBS is about as far away from being a theological expert as it gets.
Just saying...

Actually, no I don't pretend to "speak" for God, or understand his "plan" that is for religious people to do ( however inaccurately they wish to do it) I believe in God and have faith in him, what I don't believe in is religion, and the people that use religion as an excuse to judge, torment and belittle people "in the name of God", can I just insert God told me religion is corrupt and another way for man to harbor hate and abuse power, and be right Monkey? Would you throw down religion at that point because God "told me"?

I may indeed be naive and uneducated in the teachings of religion ( though I spent the first 16 years of my life learning and participating in the church) but at least I don't use my faith as a shield for things whenever it is convenient, I take responsibility for my actions and own them, I attempt to follow those teachings to the best of my ability, not as some teaching from men, but because I know it is what a good person does, and I don't simply cast those aside when convenient, then ask for forgiveness after the fact.

I'm fine with my faith, and belief, no matter how much you think I've yet to learn.

HC you will have to forgive me then...I honestly thought I remembered you saying that you were agnostic. I could have sworn that was you...my very bad then!!
I apologize, that was my mistake for confusing you with someone else who told me that they were agnostic, in an argument on the PI.

I won't walk back what I said about calling people who "hear from GOD" crazy though. Some of them may very well be, but usually it's obvious when they are.
There are some people who claim to have heard from GOD who are liars too, but you can always tell the ones who are by the fact that what they do, never lines up with what they claim to believe.

From my perspective, it's just as possible that you are spiritually deaf, or just not listening as it is that they are crazy.

The Bible can be used as a tool to promote almost any point of view if misused or misunderstood. There is a scripture that says"study to show yourself approved, a workman that needs not be ashamed, rightly DIVIDING the word of truth". In other words, i believe that means there is a balance between views. The scripture has also been referred to as "the living word". That means it is ever evolving and even reading the same passage many times a new truth can be revealed by it. Also the Bible is 2 covenants, Old testament is the original deal between God and Humankind. New testament, new agreement. But for those who say the book is man made, written by men and therefore not credible I return to the fact that God can do as he pleases. he is omnipotent enough to make sure some scribe wrote down what he wanted whether the guy knew it was going on or not. In much the same way as he gave us Russell Wilson. Hey the Lombardi is amazing as has been watching this great young man play ball. But maybe the most important reason to God was some little kid or parent at the Children hospital. Or some wino on the street who heard about Wilson's faith and it changed his life." As far as the heavens are above the earth so are his ways above our ways and his thoughts above our thoughts". And again "the foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of man". Its cool to know there's a bigger hand steering the wheel in the journey of life. Now we just have to wait and see whether this running back is tuned in or not. If God wants him here he will be here.

It's cool, I'm content with what I believe and how I choose to believe it. I don't hate people that believe in religion, I just choose a different path. I have never lost "faith" in God, just in man in the "name" of him, however you want to read that is up to you to decide.... LOL
