Our FO was probably hoping to stash him on the PS.
We also lost LB/ST DJ Alexander, but I think Austin Calitro fills that need at a lesser cost.

Shalom Luani is not Earl Thomas but he is aggressive and his presence gives us the flexibility to trade Thomas.

Can we get a 1st from Dallas or another team for trading Earl?

But a 2nd and a player for Thomas maybe acceptable.

This season seems like 2012 expect that we don't have a rookie QB.

If we had Solari and Schottenheimer back in 2012, instead of Bev and Cable, we'd have 2 if not 3 SBs by now.

I am not sure if our defense will ever get to the same level as what we had in 2013.

Same here, Sis. Have missed this forum.

Glad there's been a turnover in the Hawks organization in some ways both with players and with the coaches. It was needed.

Pete likes challenge; now he can start fresh, fortunately he doesn't have to look for a QB and his assistant coaches are better qualified and more aligned to what he wants to do.

Can we build a defense similar to 2013?

What pieces do we really lack in terms of talent?

Can we have a running game better than what we had with Marshawn?

This is the year that will tell us what's missing and how far we need to go.

But I am optimistic. I like the energy in the organization and with the players.

We are better than what we were in 2012.

I’m 100% fine with where we are, too. As much as I appreciated Sherm and Bennett and the successes they brought, I was not really ok w/ keeping them around. Sherman’s a weird one- such a strange balance of selfishness (like making public fun of Pete, staff & the media) and generosity (like coaching up his back ups w/ a shredded Achilles while knowing he was done for the year). In the end, his overt and pervasive eye-roll to the very leaders and system that made him a star necessitated his exit.

Injuries to Cliff & Kam + Earl’s hold-out make it ever so clear that 5 years ago was, all at once, awesome & a very long time ago. I like the direction the O and ST are headed and worry about depth/experience on D - particularly in the secondary & at LB depth)... But that is where Pete & John have shined the brightest, so I have confidence moving forward. I’m not thinking we are headed for a 12 win season, but think we are actually closer to that than the pundits 4-12 predictions. We have Russell Freaking Wilson, for crying out loud!

Agree, Sis. We are not a 4-12 team. We live and die with the Seahawks. The pundits don't. Their punditry revolves around getting a few more clicks on their article than on correctly describing a team's real strengths/weaknesses.

We are better on offense today than we were in 2012 and, yes, we still have R "freaking" W who is always trying to improve his game as well as the play of guys around him. RW is excited about learning from Schottenheimer and, conversely, Schottenheimer never had a QB to work with who had so much talent, especially the mobility and accuracy on the deep ball that RW possesses.

RW has never been involved in a "butt fumble" and never will, due to his unusual mobility that Mark Sanchez sorely lacked. I also like the fact that there will be one person calling the plays on offense and not the Cable/Bev duo depending on whether it was a run or a pass play. The fact that RW made things work, is a miracle.

Sherm was an enigma but his achilles injury, relatively high salary and the fact that he had always been a management challenge despite being generous to his fellow teammates, made him expendable. The leadership void will be filled by Bobby no doubt. Little disappointed in Delano Hill's play so far but the addition of Shalom Luani, who is naturally aggressive and very familiar with Ken Norton's defense, should make a difference. The Secondary may not be elite now and may lack the talent of a Sherm, Earl or Kam, is still not that bad. I am sure Pete will pay extra attention to this group so they can develop quickly.

I would also like to see some people on the D-line emerge as leaders, especially, guys like Frank Clark and Jarran Reed. How long will it take for Dion Jordan to get fully healed so he can start playing at the level he showed towards the end of last season?

We have veteran guys in the middle like Tom Johnson and Shamar Stephen but do we have a "disrupter" like Bennett or a mammoth run-stuffer who can clog up the middle and direct plays outside so the LBs can attack the holes without fear?

Greetings. Defensively, I see the first line of defenders as pretty strong, especially in the middle. Not much being said about Nazair Jones, who I think will have an impact, although I don't yet have a good look at Stephan and Johnson, besides the positive press. The ends and pass rushers I am a little scary about. Hoping to get help from Dion Jordan is a little long, but promising. Green could be a sensation, or a rookie.

The new defensive backfield, never the LOB, will benefit if Earl is back there keeping the CB's honest, and I have a blind faith in Carroll's ability to manage DB's

If Russell is healthy, and the creek don't rise, we'll be fine.

As always, good comments. I, too, am excited about Green. He has double digit sacks, DROY potential, and could be the steal of the draft. But we haven't seen him against starting quality NFL OL's, either. 10-4 about having blind faith in Pete and his D, particularily the secondary. I've always said that our D was organic in that it has the ability to heal Thyself.

But as I said in the previous thread, I think Earl is a goner and will be traded before the deadline at the end of next month.

I know Poona is listed as third string but I see him being another Mebane in the middle with Naz. I think those two can plug up any middle out there.

They rotate a lot, so I would think Poona will get some good playing time to show he belongs.
