Finally, its here. Game day.

Is the game on any of your local channels in Seattle or are they only on the NFL channel at 1am?

I don't have any details, but I've seen chatter on social media that preseason games can be streamed, too.

No Sunday Ticket for me this year ... the kids finally moved out so the wife and I just got ourselves a 2 bedroom apartment that has only cable available, so I'm getting NFL gamepass on my fire stick instead ... new territory for me so wish me luck.

Good luck Bob. I think if you have enough bandwidth you'll be happy with what you can get. I had it one year and it worked fine.

Thank you so much. It doesn't show up on our channel listings but it is probably just an error on Dish's listings.

Well it's turning out to be a real POS so far ... it says "Sorry, there is no video available for this game" ...

The game is supposed to be starting now isn't it?

We got rid of our satellite system and went with a combination of OTA and internet streaming, which will work for most of the regular season games I want to watch. But oddly, last night's game wasn't listed in any of the television guides, including our local newspaper, but we found that our local Fox affiliate had it. It was a bummer because I like recording those games, but I did manage to get some of the first half and all of the second half recorded. I like to watch the replays as I exercise on my elliptical.

From watching the game recorded.

Starters:

Defense: Bobby, Griffin and McDougall made some nice plays. Our D-line looks serviceable. Still be nice to see 'em get off the field on those third and fourth down

Offense: Carson looks ahead of Penny so far. Russ looks in mid-season form. Fluker can run block and the pocket was totally clean on that first drive ... very happy with the O-line so far. Nick Vannett.

The rest of the game is incidental, but it was great seeing Shaquim make so many tackles, and interesting to see him playing the Mike.

OL: The starting line looked like it might have some promise, but depth is an issue and 2 RT injuries to Jamarco Jones and Isiah Battle don't help.
RB: There looks like some depth there and if both Carson and Penny stay healthy we might have a good combination like some of the other teams like N.O. and Atlanta.
DL: I was surprised by the pressure from Green and Martin. They might be serviceable when Clark and (hopefully) Jordan get back in the lineup.
LB's: Some rust by the starters, but Shaquem looked good and later in the game some of the lesser knowns showed up.
DB's: Flowers looked pretty good for someone adjusting to CB. Tedric Thompson was also pretty solid. We will never see another combination like Kam and ET, but we could end up being solid at Safety.
ST: Dickson has an odd punting style, but it sure is effective. It looked like either the Colts returners aren't very sure handed or his punts do some odd things. Kicking game should be much improved.

I was a bit surprised that the kickoff return game didn't have bigger returns. With the new changes this year it seems like it should be easier for the returner to find a hole but I don't think there were any kickoff returns for a TD in these first round of games.

It could be that since we're in the middle of summer that the ball is carrying further than it does later in the season, leading to more touch backs.

Now, that's an interesting take on it, RD.

I'll throw in that the NFL's limit on practice time cuts into the special teams having the repetitions needed to learn the process and with all the new rules, kickoffs and other ST plays will come into focus over time.
We do have a lot of new faces and (I'm guessing) a new coach, too for the process?

I'm sure there's more touchbacks now than there will be in Dec and Jan but I saw quite a few run out, too. I think its a part of it but I'm wondering if the ST coaches don't know exactly what or how they want to attack this situation. E.g. who are the two people back by the returner? Blockers, Athletic types???? E.g. a pooch kick to one of them who is a DL or OT as a blocker might get a turnover. If they are a TE or RB there might not be enough blocking.

I think this is going to turn out to be a very interesting point of how it is played this year.

The 3rd preseason game is the best evaluation game. The last is scrub time.

How? How can I look at the schedule and say barring injuries to other teams, that we are going to win more than 7 games makes me a gloomer? Sorry, this defense will be a C+ at best. The OL C- at very best. CowHerd, 7-9 Wilbon 4-12. So how I am a gloomer?

You don't get to separate doom & gloom and claim not to be a "gloomer" ... the term "doom & gloomer" refers to a single entity and no offense, but you is one:

"doom-and-gloomer"

Noun
doom-and-gloomer (plural doom-and-gloomers)

(informal) A person who predicts doom and gloom; a pessimist, naysayer, or Cassandra.

I'm just saying you said a while back you weren't a doom and gloomer and you are. The season hasn't started and you're throwing in the towel. We may be bad, but no use assuming it.

We didn't have Kam, Sherm, and Avril last year and we were one game and a few missed kicks from a much better record. You never know if any of these rooks will be standouts. There was a time when Sherm and Kam were no name anonymous players before becoming the Legion of Boom. Bennett was some undrafted guy that worked his way up the roster.

There's just no way to know how this season will go or who will be injured or what will happen game to game. If you're just expecting the worst and hoping for the best, so be it. I don't discount this team with Russell. If Russell weren't here, I'd be more in the doom and gloom category. But we have a franchise QB, a few key D players that are still great, the core of our WRs, and some rooks and young players that look hungry to make a mark. I ain't counting us out like the league is filled with super teams.

We've seen great defenses go from awesome to garbage in a single year. Injuries can affect our division helping us as well as hurting us. Brady carried New England for years and Peyton the Colts. Russell is good enough at this point that we got a shot.

I'm not a "doom and gloomer" because I realize that in the NFL, anything is possible. But I do tend to regulate my passion by lowering my expectations. It makes the lows more bearable and the highs more enjoyable. Perhaps that's a more accurate characterization of obi's sentiments.

Having said that, I'm looking forward to this season. For one, I'm retired, and will have all sorts of time to not only get my fill of the NFL, but of college football as well, and I might even venture out of my man cave for some Friday night high school football. Secondly, this is almost like an expansion season with so many new faces. Compared to last year's opening day, we could have as many as 18 new starters, with Bobby, KJ, Russell, and Britt being the only veterans from last season penciled into the starting lineup at this point. I'm not sure if we had that many new starters in Pete's first year.

Good point River, maybe I am just preparing for the worst. However, I just look at weapons on Offense and play makers on defense and We just do not have them. At one time we had a RB that was A/A+ a receiving corp that was a B+, an OL that was a solid B and a QB that was an A-. Now he has grown to a solid A and the rest are C's and D's. Defense, (I am just assuming a minimal role for ET) a C+ B- at best, and that is reach. At one time, solid A we were the best now...............................????????????????????

This is why we love football this time of year. For the Seahawks, it can go either way, but so much depends on the health of the key playmakers. "The Football Gods" so to speak. If Doug Baldwin and Tyler Locket actually can play from game #1, that group will be a "B" with Russell as QB no matter who else plays WR's. I think the signing of Brandon Marshall will prove to be a great move. Big and good hands... I'd rather have him then Dez. If any group is "weak" it's the TE's in the passing game, I see a lot of 4 WR sets.

I know its impossible to tell after one preseason game, but fix the RT and the OLine can grow to a C or C+ with Solari back and they will have a good front 5 that will be better (can't be worse) and that means the RB's if they stay healthy, starting with Carson and Penny, has potential (and that's all you have right now) to be real good. We hope for a B --

My view is the O outperforms this year and it's the D that see's the most weakness. Too many All-Pros gone on the backside, no matter how good the new kids are. If Byron Maxwell is our starting CB.. we are toast - He was the worst CB in the NFL every year he was gone. He won't have ET to support him.

I still predict 8-8, but I see a comeback next year, unlike SF and Rams that had 5+ years of crap and multiple high drafts picks we've never seen since Okung and ET. No doom and gloom, reality for a year and a big upside down the road.

I didn't forget him. I did say "as many as" 18 new starters in our opener vs. our opener from last season, acknowledging the fact that Baldwin is currently not practicing and could miss the entire preseason in which case he probably won't start in Denver.

Actually only 23 players from the 09 season made it to final roster in 2010, there were 30 new starter in Pete's first year. Now big difference between now and then is that last season they lost some key starters to injuries they showed some dept last year something that was not there in 2010. With that said many questions remain but like you said this is the NFL and anything can happen, like with better kicker we would have been in playoffs or a 7 and 9 team hosting a home playoff game like in january 2011. Pete Carrols running of the team is frustrating from time to time but hardly ever boring.

By starters, I mean announced offensive and defensive starters, of which there are just 22. You're talking about the 53 man roster.

There were 8 players that were starters in both 2009 and 2010: Offense: Matt Hasselbeck, Sean Locklear, Chris Spencer, and John Carlson. Defense: Aaron Curry, LeRoy Hill, Marcus Trufant, and Brandon Mebane.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/ ... ineups.htm

This really is a new beginning for us, or as close as one can get without blowing the entire team up by purging the HC and franchise QB.
