Definitely! I watched him play in a bowl game this and he is intense! Can't wait to see him on special teams. He's a fearless destroyer!

Its a feel good move folks period. He has one hand and with that speed he dropped for a reason. In 2 years we will be scoffing at this move. WE needed blockers, not social constructs.

I don't think they make "feel good" moves.
He's a late round pick who can be a situational player right away and contribute on on ST.

Later on I can see him as an OLB, Rush End, and maybe even an in the box Safety depending on what they want to do with him.

Ok HS, lets really step in it here! WE got one guy with a torn ACL and a speech impediment, we have another with no hand, how about the kid outta UCLA that is a blind long snapper! Its NFL football, not hire the handicapped! Sorry, my favorite President was in a wheel chair! He was not trying to start in the NFL. WE have NO blockers this year, again!! WE draft these guys and a punter!! I am out on Pete Carroll. I am all in on these kinda moves in real life, but this is pro football! Yeah we already got a lot of good feel press and it will continue, but what "IF" they have to cut him? They had the whole family up there on ESPN, when I was 30 I would have cried! At 62, I am tired of media manipulation and then getting my Azz handed to me by the Rams. Sorry, I say this as a kid that was special ED with only one eye that could read. I guess I am getting jaded by a sport that is based on how you stop the run and run the ball, and we cannot do either one anymore.

You really think a 5th round OL has a better chance of making the team and contributing than Shaqueem? Not only will he make the team but your going to see him making plays this season. He’s a stud with a huge chip and a high motor. He may never develop into a starter but I could easily see him as a major special teams contributor and situational player on throwing mid to late round draft picks at the OL is not the way to fix it.

You sure, man? Jason Pierre-Paul is playing with essentially one hand. Don't you think a guy with one hand that even made it to the NFL is pretty damn extraordinary? You never know what a guy determined to overcome his short-comings might do given the chance. He pretty much fits the Seahawk mode of thinking to a tee. I like the classic Scarface line, "You get a like that on your side, he'll break his back for you" or something to that effect.

The knee injury was in High School so he's had a few years of healing and productivity as he grew into his body and I read one report where the examining doctor declared it to be tighter than the uninjured knee.
I didn't know a speech impediment would affect on field performance or what it has to do with anything at all unless the player is a QB.
We picked up a TE that is a blocker first - maybe the best blocking TE in the draft who can help the run game.

Doesn't having only one hand reduce the chance of getting called for holding at least by 50%?

By far the best analogy I’ve heard ever!

But in all seriousness, I was over joyed when they drafted him. Just think of the extra chip from being drafted in the fifth round when he was projected as low as a second! He’s playing with his twin brother and he’s under a lifeguard-like coach. Some of his big plays in college were phenomenal - he’s got some serious explosiveness and a knack for the ball.

And Obiken you are being a little bit cynical and rude.

Of course we need better offensive linemen. Of course. They have been adding them the last ~3 to 4 drafts. Give the new coach a chance to actually work with some talent and relax a little bit. Oh and I loved fdr too!

I heard that we might play him at strong safety and groom him as Kam's replacement. With his speed, he'll be able to cover every tight end in the league with the hitting power of a linebacker...just like Kam.

I don't think his handicap will be a huge factor. For a 5th rounder, I think we got a player with a heck of a potential upside.

He was the conference player of the year as a junior with 13.5 sacks and followed up with 7.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss as a senior. He was a beast in the bowl game against Auburn who beat the national champs Georgia. Yes the arm is a hindrance but there's a saying, you can't coach speed. If he can be sudden off the edge or on a delayed blitz or whatever he can disrupt plays and someone else can clean up if needed. The film shows he's still a pretty good tackler who wraps up and uses good technique in spite of the handicap. The bond and camaraderie with he and his brother who is clearly the new happier Sherman is priceless. I had a feeling this would happen and I like the gamble.

"They" say that you can't catch lightening in a bottle twice but by drafting the twin we get a hybrid of Kam and Sherman. Griffen has Sherm's speed and brains and he also has Kam's hitting ability. So in this draft we already have replaced both Kam and Sherm and strengthened a few other spots.

So, Pete and John have not only caught lightening in a bottle twice they caught an even larger bolt! About 2.0 gigawatts if my calculus is correct.

edit.

There were probably no offensive linemen left by the time the Seahawks got to pick that looked like they could be productive NFL players so Pete and John opted for other position choices that had promise.

I have this sneaky feeling that with Bevel and Cable gone and with the addition of a good blocking tight end and top back to the team the O linemen we already have will suddenly look better.
