Pete and Darrell

Postby Hawktawk » Sat Jan 21, 2017 9:49 pm

Plenty of people in the fan base and at least one on the team want Bevell fired.
Petes response is that people who want him fired "don't know what they are talking about."

After the debacle at the end of 49 pete again refused to call out Bevell or criticize the call.

The best he would do is "it was the worst result of a play call ever".
its like Obama refusing to criticize radical Islam in a way, a speech impediment. I know pete is an upbeat guy but wth?

I don't know people. The last 7 weeks of 2015 it looked like it was coming together.
Then the anemic output in the ice bowl followed by getting shut out vs Carolina in the first half .

This year obviously there's been injuries, young line etc but this offense rarely played 4 quarters the whole year.

Is Pete having a hormonal moment refusing to make his OC compete like he demands of the players?
I say yes. Tell me why I am wrong or right?

Pete is a loyal guy, and I mentioned elsewhere that I understand that Bevell has earned his kudos here as OC. It just feels, though, that we've seen all there is to offer in terms of his philosophy and scheme. That's what it boils down to for me. And while he did get some (token perhaps) interviews for HC vacancies a couple years ago or more, his stock since has amounted to being penny. When you look around at some the coaches that have been hired over the last 2 seasons, it's interesting how Darrell is not legitimately in the mix.

Yes Zorn that does seem to be an indicator of his lack of respect around the league.
Watching Shanahan carve up a defense that had won the first meeting makes me drool at the same time it made me ill.
Theres no point in whining when Pete has already said he's standing pat.
I guess the question would be who do you replace him with.

Another problem with attracting a new OC is he wouldn't have full control of the Offense.
Cable runs the OL and run game and I would think most OCs would want control of how the entire Offense is run.
As well, they would have to adopt Pete's Offensive philosophy which in today's terms is conservative.
These things could limit the pool of candidates.

Wow I wasn't aware of that. Maybe that's part of the dysfunction. That doesn't even make sense to me.

I always thought Norv Turner would be a good fit for us, I know the Vikings released him, but in my opinion he didn't have the tools to work with there. when he was the OC for the cowboys back in the day he did a good job. in San Diego as the head coach he always had them right in the mix of the playoffs.
as I don't think we really have anyone to step into the head coach position when Pete gets around to leaving, which really could be any year, he could be the guy, he has experience and god forbid they would promote Bevel.

Tom Clements from the Packers for the last 20 years has not had his contract renewed.
He was QB coach and ended up Assistant HC/Offense.
He could probably do a good job as an OC here if they want to move forward on Offense.

Clements and the packers have parted ways. It doesn't matter pete is obviously very stubborn about this .
