For sure? I've heard nothing else. Bizarre if they fire him within a week of extending him.
Frankly it makes me uneasy anytime a known quantity becomes an unknown one.
But it isn't like Seattle has solved Fisher nearly as well as everybody else has.

Well I hope you're wrong about PC. I don't know why a guy in his mid 60s would leave a loaded team to go try and extinguish that hair fire.
He acts ten years younger so that probably isn't a factor but didn't he just sign a new deal with Seattle?
It will bear watching.

At the moment one 42 year old mr John Fassel, ST coordinator with 3 different teams will be on the sidelines thursday night. He is the son of former coach Jim Fassel.

I expect an intense Rams team.Seattle better jump on them and be ready to match it.I hate backup QBs coming in and I hate backup coaches too.

I seriously doubt PC would leave Seattle, but there's a natural connection so you know the media will jump on it.

I'm more worried about which Hawk team will show up than I am about the Rams.

I don't think that Hawkstar was suggesting that he thought Pete was leaving for LA. He was simply pointing out that there almost undoubtedly will be rumors circulating that Pete is considering going back to LA, and the Rams would be fools not to at least send out some feelers. If I'm not mistaken, Carroll's contract is up after this season, he spent 9 years in LA at USC, and he's a California native, so why wouldn't people try to put two and two together?

Edit: Sorry, Hawkstar, I didn't see your post before you replied.

They signed him to the extension in the offseason. They just (for reasons known only to them) didn't tell anyone till they got tired of Eric Dickerson's constant "Fisher has to go" campaign on local radio.

Thing is now they look stupider than ever. Total fustercluck.

As for his replacement, we'll be facing Hairball twice a year again starting next year.

Hairball to the Rams? Are you just speculating or is there something else that would lead you to make that prediction?

Whoa... didn't see Hairball coming, but I can see how it makes some sense. Whoever replaces Fisher is inheriting a roster full of talent. I've always felt like coaching decisions have held the Rams back more so than lack of talented players.

Well, with all due respect to Cbob, let's not start passing the kudos around just yet, at least not until a signing is announced.

But that was a good article, and raises some really good points as to why the Rams might shoot for the moon and go after Hairball. The Chargers are all but gone from San Diego, so the so far uninspiring return of the Rams to LA is about to get even more competition for the attention of the super saturated LA market, the Rams already have a great D, and if a proven QB coach like Hairball can groom Goff into the player many think he is capable of, the Rams would be an instant SB contender.

But the problem is finding someone that can work with that self absorbed prick.

I was going by speculation on the radio yesterday that Haiball may be headed back the NFL coupled with the firing of Fisher today. Hadn't seen Hawkstar's link. It all just makes too much sense for the two tidbits not to be related.

Yea, it does make one whole heck of a lot of sense.

Or how about this: If the Rams were going to reach down to the colleges, why wouldn't they go after someone like Saban or Meyer? Chris Peterson maybe?

Just throw'in out names.

Harbaugh does own a home in California.... Seems like a fairly decent jump. Rumors of return, Fisher fired same week of extension announcement, home in California, plus that California "sizzle".

I heard Josh mcDaniel or Kyle Shanahan also options this AM on ESPN. Honestly I think canning Fisher now is the first smart thing Kroenke has done. There will be lots of dominoes falling.
Jacksonville, Buffalo, NYJ,Indy, SD to name a few.49ers honestly wouldnt shock me.
And there are always some surprises. There are really quite a lot of attractive young coaches so the Rams getting in the front of the line is a good thing for them.

If he goes to the Rams, we should hire Harbaugh and begin the rivalry anew.
He would at least energize the Offense if history is an indication.

Something tells me PC has too good a gig here and too good a relationship with this group of guys and the GM to bolt within the division.
He signed a deal here knowing full well the Rams opportunity would present itself fairly soon.
Of course money talks but Kroenke doesn't have any more money than Paul Allen.

If he did it would be gut wrenching and one of the worst days in Hawk history.

Yeah - easiest prediction of the year. Even Rambo (sp) could have called this one 80% of the time.

I was talking with a customer from LA. He was sharing how quickly the excitement of the Rams returning to LA dissipated. He felt ownership has to make a splashy hire in an attempt ignite the fan base. I didnt realize the stadium was 1/2 full for the Falcons beat down - pretty pathetic to lose your fan base after 12 games.

The LA market is a curse as much as it is a blessing. They have two MLB teams, two NBA teams, one NHL team, and two major colleges. There's a lot of competition for the sports dollar and headlines. Plus next year, there's a good chance that the Chargers might be moving to town, making things even more crowded.

So I agree with your friend. There's going to be a huge amount of pressure on Kroneke to make a big splash with the hiring of a new coach. Hairball and Pete both fit that bill. Kyle Shannahan and Josh McDaniel don't.

I seriously doubt either Harbaugh or Carroll will go there, for all the reasons mentioned. Pressure to perform immediately and a lousy fan base.
I've never seen Clink half full or the Kingdome before it and we have had some serious double digit loss seasons and a 20 plus year drought between playoff wins.

Who wants to sign up to play Seattle twice a year with a fickle fan base that whined for over 2 decades then peters out halfway through a season that started out 3-1?
And what about the GM? Not a lot of John Schneider's sitting around waiting for a call.
Maybe guys like Shanahan and McDaniel are not as splashy but they may be the next great young coaches too.

I hope they get it wrong whatever they do.I still hate their guts.

I guess I heard the same thing, but in a different context. They were saying that the Saints tried to trade Payton last season and might be lowering their asking price this year. I thought they were mentioning it in connection with the Jags opening.

Why the hell would Gruden abandon his TV gig? It would be foolish.

Sean Payton, that is interesting. Hes sort of living off his reputation the last couple of years though.

Perhaps it's because both teams have just fired Defensive minded coaches.
I get the impression that many teams waffle back and forth when they get on the coaching carousel. Nothing to base it on, just the impression I have.
As well, both teams need to develop young QBs so it might be a built in bias by the owners/GMs.

Can you blame them???!!!!!!!

When I googled how much does Jon Gruden make.
Just last year, Gruden signed a five-year extension with ESPN. His salary is rumored to be over $4 million annually, and ESPN reaffirmed his commitment to Pro Football Talk when coaching buzz started earlier this year.
