O/T Unbelievable N.D.S.U. Bison beat #13 Iowa.

Five time (that's five STRAIGHT times!) FBS champion N.D.S.U. Bison have added more to their ever growing legend.
This week they knocked off the #13 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes, last years Rose Bowl team from the Big 10 West.

I could EASILY make the case, that this current run the Bison are on, is the greatest feat in all of college team athletics...or any team athletics at any level for that matter.
They right now, are in the middle of a run of excellence, that rivals any dynasty at any level of any sport! From little Fargo North Dakota no less.
I don't think most fans around here really truly understand how amazing what they are doing really is, partly because it's hard to wrap your head around it really, and partly because, people are starting to just take it for granted. (Human nature.)
BTW: I told you guys that many of you were badly under rating Carson Wentz! He'll go through some growing pains and have some horrible games before he peaks, no doubt, and he was playing against a HORRIBLE team no doubt, but you watch and see if he doesn't become a very decent starting NFL QB.

Just a couple reasons why I believe there should be no college ranking (officially anyway) until week six. Even though FSU laid a major egg apologist will still be arguing they are the best team in the country. There are surprises every week in college football.

The rankings really dont mean anything anymore. The Selection committee decides everything now and they don't start till late in the season. The rankings are just a guide.

They don't mean as much as they did with that hideous BCS system, but with just 4 teams advancing to the playoffs, the selection committee still takes into consideration what the polls say. They're part of the beauty contest.

It would sure be nice if they could expand the playoffs to 8 teams and have the 5 major conferences (SEC, Big 10, Pac 12, ACC, and Big 12) get automatic seeds and allow for 3 at large seeds determined by the committee. But this is still much better than the BCS or the old bowl system.

Agreed. I think that almost inevitable too (at least the expanded playoffs, if not the automatic invites).

Doesn't this happen every year? Not downplaying the accomplishment, just pointing out it isn't unheard for an lower division school to upset a ranked team, many of them iconic, higher ranked teams to boot ( wasn't it Appalachian State that upset like number 5 or 6 not that long ago)...

Hell Eastern Washington seems to do it once a year.

Yea, Appalachian State upsetting Michigan a few years back started it all. Prior to that, you hardly ever heard of a D2 (or 1-AA, FCS, or whatever) upsetting a D1 (or FBS) team. Now it happens every September. My EWU Eagles have held their own against the Pac 12 North during years that they haven't even made a lot of noise in the playoffs.

IMO the problem is that with few exceptions, not many college teams outside of the SEC play good defense, which opens the door to upsets. EWU's victory over WSU is a perfect example.
