I don't know. I thought that was college. I do remember something about a new rule though. Did he get tossed for the two PF's or just for the Ref contact?

And they sure didn't look like last year's Rams to me. What the F goes on with them? The 49ers looked good. Who would of thunk it.

Suspended.

Edit: my mistake, the article head was originally " Donald to miss Seahawks game" but everything I read now says he'll just be fined heavily.

It was just a quick little punch to a 9er head, it was nothing let him play!

I know the ejection was for "ref contact" (per the call on the field), but if what he did to the 49er player plus contacting a ref doesn't count as two of the 'forbidden' fouls, what does?

Does the rule just state 2 fouls or does it specify having different plays.
In a melee, a player could commit more than 2 fouls, so I could see that interpretation.

All the language I've heard just says "two fouls", and in case you don't already know, it's two specific types of fouls (verbally abusing a ref counts, a late hit might not, something like that).

I don't think it would have to be two different plays for it to count, but it's the NFL who can't decide when a catch is actually a catch, so who the h3ll knows.

I believe one of the criteria for the type of PF's that count towards ejection is "after the play". The first foul may have been considered during the play.

The two fouls the ref mentioned were, um, I can't remember what he called it, but it referred to Donald punching/pushing the helmet off the SF player, so I don't think there's any way that can be characterized as anything but *after* the play.

The second of course was making contact with the referee (unsportsmanlike conduct), which led to the automatic ejection regardless.

I guess the big question is: was this one of the new 'two bad fouls and you're out' situations, and if so, does that lead to a suspension for the next game?

He did punch Niners twice after the play, but it isn't what he was ejected for.... Not sure what the league will say.

The first punch I'm talking about is this one: https://twitter.com/OLineWorld65/status ... wsrc%5Etfw ... which may or may not have been before the whistle.

The second one here: https://twitter.com/_MarcusD2_/status/7 ... wsrc%5Etfw ... is obviously after the play.

My point is that if those two punches didn't get him ejected (evidently it was contact with the ref that did) it would be because the first was not deemed to be after the play.

Or the refs just haven't gotten consistent with the new rules yet.

No way the league makes any key player on the Rams sit for their ballyhooed home opener. Especially after last night.

Jeezus they are looking for the black boxes on that crash and burn. My observation was that just isn't the same hard nosed Rams team always in games and competitive week in and out, a franchise QB from being title worthy. They look bad, dull, unimaginative.
Or are the 9ers that good? or was it just week one dont overreact?

Game one doesn't usually mean that much from a competency perspective for marginal teams. They could be All World against us or lay an egg.
It depends on how they react as a team to the first home game in LA and all the hoopla that's going to surround it.

I'll bet there will a lot of Seahawks fans. That's one big place to hold a football game and Pete has a lot of friends down there. By the way, it's not a "National Game".. it's an AFC Double Header week, so it's not that big, except to the citizens of LA and Seattle. I doubt it's shown anywhere except LA and Seattle. and I'll do my own edit: FOX has the #1 team Buck/Aikman on this game, but it's still not a national game.

While the entire TV viewing audience was down 10+% for the weekend, The Rams game on Monday night was 25% lower in audience than the same time/week slot the year before, and both games featured the 49ers as one team, so the Ram's aren't exactly busting out down there, no matter what they are saying.

Locally it's a huge deal and they are in one of the 2 largest media markets in the NFL.
The extra pressure (along with an unexpected loss on Monday night) that wouldn't happen in St Louis might make a significant difference in how they play.
We'll just have to wait to see how the Rams react to it all.

I have a feeling that this veteran championship caliber team is tired of tripping over their 3rd member and getting used by Jeff 7-9 Fisher and the LA Flim Flams Rams. I sense a beat down coming.
One caveat
Watch the refs......................................
