It was a bad decision because he waited too late and should have held onto it when he realized that the DB was recovering. I did not think that the throw was off target, just that he should have thrown it when Kearse broke. But it doesn't really matter whether it was a bad decision or bad throw, it was a pick that was all on Russell and that even Anthony would have a hard time making an excuse for.
You're right about Lockett. What I liked about that catch is that he knew where the first down sticks were and reached out to get it. Too many times receivers loose sight of the game situation and come up short.
I see what you mean, it's semantics but it is important to get to the real meaning of what you were saying.
I agree that the decision to throw that ball late was "bad", in that sense then. I disagree with you saying the throw wasn't off target, it was behind Kearse, when it should have been in front of him. That's sort of textbook definition of off target, but...you say toMAYto I say toMAHto, and I do understand what you're saying.
Either way, you're certainly right that it was on Wilson, and indefensibly so. He simply shouldn't have thrown that pass once he'd held the ball so long.
The thing is though, if he'd thrown it right away when he was supposed to, it would have been the absolute right decision. Kearse was the open receiver, and so it was the right read, he just didn't trust it.
I was right BTW, Wilson said in his presser that he moved to see better. I had that feeling that he held the ball and moved forward and to his right to get a better view of what he knew was an open Kearse. He should have just trusted his read, it was right on, but he wanted to make sure, and it cost him the pick.
I'm actually glad that it happened. it hurts nothing, and yet It's a good reminder to him that he really needs to trust his reads, and get the ball out quickly, the way he was doing mid season last year. He'll see his mistake, (he knew what his mistake was right away actually) but he'll see it on film and make the correction.
I think this is really going to be a special year for this team, especially for Russell Wilson. I fully expect him to be in the MVP race this year, and end up winning it.
As for that Lockett catch, I personally thought it was just another bit of evidence of just how good he's ultimately going to be.
I truly don't think it's a stretch at all to say that the best comparison to his ceiling is Antonio Brown. I'm not at all exaggerating when I say that. Every time I see Lockett, I am amazed at the kinds of routes he runs, amazed at his body control and his controlled speed (which is totally different than just straight speed). There is not one reason to believe that Lockett can't blossom into our own version of Antonio Brown.
Less volume obviously. But you get the point.
I haven't been this excited about any young WR we've had in Seattle. Not even Joey Galloway got me this excited, and at the time Galloway was playing for us, we were essentially trying to build our offense around his skill set. Even Galloway didn't impress me this much though.
In a way it's too bad we will never see what Lockett could do in a high volume passing scheme, because I think he'd just blow up.
