Who Should Raise the 12th Man Flag?

This weekend's home game is historic - it will be the most important Seahawk Home game ever played.

Therefore - who will be the Special person selected to have the honor of raising the 12th man Flag?

Some Ideas

My Number 1 choice is this guy - because watching him raise the flag would shock the world - Piss off the 49er nation something fierce & give me an excellent laugh!



Note - this idea was not received well at all on the PI Thread when I proposed it for the last 49er game.


My Number 2 Candidate to raise the flag would be this Top Ranked Team - Especially if it was a cold day:




However Mrs. Savvy would object to seeing me in such a Happy state of being watching the 12th man flag being hoisted.


Keeping with the Girl flag raising Candidates - this leads me to alternative Candidate number 2 - These girls are deserving and are a Seattle Institution:





The third candidate needs no introduction.

I do not believe he has raised the flag before?

He has all the credentials to be the one chosen to raise the 12th man flag at the most important home game ever -after all he showed us the road to the Superbowl once before:

I dont recall him raising it. I know he and the organization have had their "differences" over the years, however how could we chose anyone other than Easley to raise the flag against the Niners with a trip to the SB on the line. He and Lott battled to be the best from their days in LA. (UCLA vs SC) They battled for contract value of Safeties. Easley will set the defense on fire. Come on Hawks, bring back one of our very best!

Some great choices on here.

To answer a few questions raised; The Walrus has never raised the flag, but his wife has. Ken Easley raised the flag in 2005.

Other thoughts; Largent has not raised the flag since 2003. Same with Curt Warner.

Paul Allen rightly raised the flag for the last home NFCCG, but it would seem a bit much for him to do it again. Jodi, might be the choice but how embarrassing if the entire stadium cringes when her names is announced.

Gary Payton, has never raised it - maybe a dark horse. Macklemore might be another outside horse.

I'm not sure if he would do it, but Hasselbeck is done for the year. Probably more something he would do after retirement.

My vote is the Walrus. We are on the precipice of matching the greatest achievement in Seahawk Football and he was the leader (off the field) of the last team to be here.

Gary Payton actually has raised the flag. I believe it was during the 08-09 season. I only remember this because after he did, I did a swim move past security to give him a hug! I'm surprised I wasn't kicked out of the game.

I voted for Holmgren, but what about 12 Lifelong Fans that have been season ticket holders since '76 (like Makena's Dad). They have supported this team just as much as any coach or player...if not more. They deserve it. It would get the crowd going, the Original 12th Men.

I voted for Easley, but after reading the comments and learning he has already done so, I'd switch to Holmgren. Our modern success and relevance is his legacy, and I think it would be appropriate for him to raise the flag.

Not sure how his health is at present but my first thought was Chuck Knox. The Kalee idea is cool too.

The Jerry Rice thing would be funny but it would never happen and it wouldn't be very inspiring, just a shot at the 49ers.

I voted for Easley, but yeah, Mike Holmgren would be a great and appropriate choice. Chuck Knox though would be cool, or go real old school and bring in Jack Patera.

I think though it is going to be the "voice" of the Seahawks Steve Raible. He has been here from the start and he bleeds Seahawk Blue. I remember Raible as a player he rarely had the ball thrown to him and when it was Zorn had been running for his life and had tossed up a prayer. Most of the time the ball would be almost impossible for Steve to catch because of where it was thrown but occasionally Steve would catch one and boy would we cheer! I remember him tucking the ball away and running for as many yards as he could get, even the defense was shocked the ball had come his way. I think I actually saw Raible score a TD once, but it could have been pre-season. Seattle has been very good to Steve Raible, he is one of the original Seahawks and when Chuck Knox came to him and said " you have to get started on what you are going to do with the rest of your life" Steve stayed here in Seattle and made a home and raised a family. He shaved off his moustache long ago and his hair in now silver but I still picture the guy with the curly dark but thinning hair with that thick "stache". He was also Steve Largent's room mate for several seasons and he said he laid awake many a night wondering when and if he was going to be cut listening to Largent snore away knowing his spot on the roster was secure LOL.

I don't remember if Raible has hoisted it up or not but I think it is time for him to do it again if he has.

The only home game I went to this season was the Tampa Bay game, and they had a reunion of sorts of the 1983 team that made it to the AFC Championship game, and they raised #12. We all said to ourselves that they should have saved those guys for a bigger game, and what bigger game held in Seattle can there be than the one tomorrow?

About the last thing I want to be thinking of when the team is finally on the precipice of accomplishing something great, is our biggest failure!

Besides, I want someone who was a lifelong Seahawk and who still has ties to the community to raise that flag, certainly not someone who has closer ties to San Fran than Seattle now.

EDIT: I'd rather see the little girl that had the heart transplant, and made that wallet that Russell loved so much raise the flag! Or a group of kids from the hospital that Wilson visits, that would be something those kids would remember for as long as they live.

1.) Hawk-N-Out, rky or some other U.S. military representative who happens to be a Seahawk fan.
