Yea, me, too. I remember a MNF game when after a 20-30 yard touchdown pass to a tight end, Howard Cosell lit up and exclaimed "That's the way to split a zone, right down the middle!", to which Alex Karras replied "uh, that wasn't a zone, Howard", and Gifford chimed in "yea, that's why the linebacker was covering him." Dead silence from Howard.

Gifford was perhaps the best play-by-play commentator that was also a former player...a very good former player. Most former player commentators are color guys and the play-by-play commentators are guys like Al Michaels and Joe Buck that have tons of experience at calling games.

The first Sports book I read was in the late 60s on Frank Gifford. Great guy, and player. RIP!!

RIP Frank Gifford. Great player, great broadcaster, great human being. I remember when he learned that a business he owned wasn't paying his employees properly that he went there and paid them right out of his own pocket.
