Christine Michael to Texans?

Postby MackStrongIsMyHero » Wed Aug 05, 2015 10:48 am

You guys may have seen where Arian Foster when down with a groin injury and then the speculation about the Seahawks trading Christine Michael to the Texans.

Michael has talent, but I would not say he's indispensable. A conditional 5th that becomes a fourth based on PT doesn't sound too bad.

He doesn't have much of a chance of starting in front of Lynch and for the last 2 years we have heard how this year he has to produce, so maybe he might be considered.
The Texans would have to really like him as he hasn't really played enough to have a resume at the NFL level, but he does have some talent offensively.
His problem here from what I've read is his pass blocking wasn't good enough for him to move ahead of Turbin.

5th round conditional might be a bit low, but he stands a very good chance of not being on the team next year anyway, so who knows.

with Guys like Chris Johnson, Steven Jackson and Ray Rice available and for relatively cheap I don't see why the Hawks or Texans would be insterested in that deal. stranger things have happened though, nobody saw the Harvin trade coming or Graham for that matter

Trade straight across for JJ Watt! Sounds good to me.

Guys like Chris Johnson, Steven Jackson and Ray Rice are completely washed up, a PR nightmare or both.

I am not even saying I want this to happen but it's extremely easy to see how they would rather trade a low round conditional pick for a young talented (if not completely polished) RB with virtually no wear and tear on his body over any of those guys.

this would be a short term solution from the Texans viewpoint and from ours why would we trade Michael when there is a very real possibility Lynch is going to retire after this season? Even if we drafted a replacement in the next draft they most likely won't be ready to take that many snaps straight out of their rookie camp. Rice would be a nightmare PR wise which probably takes him out of consideration for a stop gap pick up but both Jackson and Johnson have enough left in the tank to fill in for a few weeks

There's a thought by some that Running Backs are fairly easy to obtain in the draft.
Players like Lynch are the exception of course, but maybe our FO is considering our existing RBs like Turbin or Rawls to be good enough to back up Lynch and start when Marshawn does exit.

considering where we are it's amazing that we made him a second round pick... why?

Even if Michael stays, I think our FO would be wise to search for Lynch's eventual replacement.
As long as we're a run 1st offense, we need a franchise calibre RB to carry the load, and CM isn't that guy, imo.

It's odd, but a couple of us were just talking about the prospect of trading Michael. If we could get a 4th for him, I'd take it in a heart beat. We're not going to have a huge budget for free agency, so stockpiling draft picks seems to be the only viable option to keep the roster stocked with affordable talent.

Another player I think could be dangling on a string is Bruce Irvin. It's a foregone conclusion that this will be his last year as a Hawk.

I'm not sure if we're always going to be a run first offense, Zorny. Our offensive line is weak and getting weaker. We'll be in the market for a LT next season.

Well, we may have to be a run first offense until pass protection gets better. As it is, RW has been getting sacked 40+ times a season. That's why we'll need to find the best runner possible to help offset that, with a guy that can produce without big holes to run through up front.

I don't think you've seen Steven Jackson or Chris Johnson run lately if you think they have enough left in the tank. Jonson is a straight line runner who was only effective when he had world class speed. Now he can't get to the corner or beat LBs to the hole and he has no wiggle. Steven Jackson is an absolute shell of what he used to be. The Cowboys chose Darren McFadden over either of them (even though Steven Jackson was lobbying to go to Dallas), that should tell you something.

Foster is having surgery tomorrow and will almost certainly get IRed with designation to return, which means he'll be out for at least half the season, not a couple of games. Also Groin injuries are also notoriously easy to reaggravate and Foster is almost 30 and has been banged up for the last three seasons with a giant contract. If they aren't looking for a long term replacement, they should be.

It makes all the sense in the world for the Texans to get a young fresh RB who would have had a first round grade if not for off the field concerns and has no tread wear (who also happens to be from Texas) if all it costs them is a conditional 5th round pick.

Again not advocating for the trade but it makes complete sense if your the Texans

Trade CM and Lynch for Jamaal Charles, you would be set for the future. Lynch only has 2 years left before he's done. I could be wrong.
