This was a no brainer, no way was he going to walk away from 10 million a year and play for a winning team.

I suspect there will be more cuts to come.
We're just seeing confirmation of who the "Core" players are.

Sad to see McDaniel go, but that's a sacrifice that is more than worth it.

Russ
Beast
Jimmy
sherm
Earl
Bobby
Kam
Bennett

These are the 8 dudes who made the top 100 and they are all under contract for awhile. Would feel better if the last two would honor what they inked and get w/ the program.... But these 8 and several other core players (KJ, Doug, Jermaine, cliff, Britt, Sweezy ain't going anywhere.... That feels pretty good to me.

Sista, we haven't heard a negative word from Bennett. He's in camp. He said he wants to be a leader. I'd say we redirect that comment to Kam right now going forward, but I'm sure we'll hear something come next off-season.

While I hear your point, it is still true that we cannot count him amongst the happy locked up for a long time group. I watched him whine all off season on national TV...the leader that he is. Glad he's in camp though. I'm a fan of his, just sayin...

No doubt Bennett did lead that off-season charge of negativity and 'supported' Kam on twitter. As a player, Bennett is paid a lot closer to his true worth then Kam is.

Kam is underpaid if you look at the yearly salary. What was his signing bonus? I don't remember Kam getting a big one of those, either, but he may just have to wait until next year, unless Tony Mc was cut more for Kam to be "Lynched" for a couple Million more this year. For all we know, Kam and his agent are working out a deal right now.

That's fine J but he negotiated it, now he's not happy? Too bad. I am getting sick of the I have to be the highest paid player at my position attitude. IF there was no Cap we would be gold with the 5th richest man in the world, but it makes no difference.

The impression I am getting from Kam's situation is that he wants another year guaranteed.

From where did you get that impression, ObS?

And yeah, I can't fault players for doing whatever they have in their power to maximize their earnings in this short window life blessed them with, but for chrissakes, if you don't want to ever be 'underpaid', then sign one-year contracts every year and accept that you won't ever be 'overpaid', either.

Here's another potential reason that Kam is holding out. He signed the first of the 'new' extensions that come in with PC/JS on the team. He 'took one for the team'.. at least that's what I think. And each player after him, ET, Sherman, Bennett, Lynch, et al including Maxwell... all got "MORE" and that's what he is seeing. I'm not saying we should tear up the contracdt, but if making him happy is moving money to this year or adding a little sweetener, it seems worth it to me.

Agreed. I want Kam here, period. Find a way to make it happen.

I'm just saying I wish that attitude from players would go away. You're in an appallingly fortunate circumstance, players- please appreciate it.

I also think playing hurt last year opened up his mind a little. Now he's seeing himself as a "Veteran" and realizes he's on the downside of a potentially very short career.

They re-did Lynch's contract because he threated to retire, and given his personality I have no doubt that he might have. Kam is a hold out that is a whole different kettle of fish. I don't see the Hawks going back over. IF they do then you have to redo Bennett, ect ect. Not gonna happen.

Ive thought about this one for a while. Ive always been a play out your contract guy but it isnt the reality anymore. Kam Bam is the most feared hitter in the NFL as a safety. Hes Batman, the engine that makes the LOB run. He leaped over the line of scrimmage twice vs Caroline a few plays before a 90 yard pick 6. He played in the SB with a torn ACL and was the best player in our secondary.Hes outperformed his deal and needs a raise. Bennett needs to quit making stupid offside penalties before he gets a redo IMO.

Don't really disagree, but if a player has an 'off' year and under-performs, should the team be able to say "We want to rewrite your contract with a $4.2M/yr cut- you didn't play as well as we thought you would?"

While we know that happens (in both directions), I don't think it should be an expectation that either side 'owes' it to the other to do so.

In the end, I think Kam has a good argument for more money, but if the team says they can't do it this year, he should get his ass into camp.

We'll probably lose Okung next year as he's pretty much said he's going to test the FA market and if the trend continues, the Seahawks won't offer him what other teams probably will.
That's about $7.3 million in direct Cap hit and $2.3 million in Dead Cap money (according to spotrac.com).
Bruce Irvin might be annoyed enough to not take what's offered as well so that would free up a total of approximately $10 million.
With that difference from 2 players, they might be able to do something for Kam next year.

Not to split hairs, but he leapt over the line three times and he did NOT tear his ACL, he had a bone bruise and an MCL tear. While it was super human (according to PC) for him to play in the SB, he would be on the PUP if he tore his ACL the Friday before 49. They are vastly different injuries.

I do not like the idea of agreeing to a deal and then coming back to the table a la Beast Mode, when looking at the #s I can understand Kam's frustration. It's not so much the $ as it is the lack of guarantees and he is aging and will likely have a shorter career because of his style of play. I do think that the Hawks will end up doing something for him, like more guaranteed $ (or moving money around between the years)...they simply don't have the cheddar to do much more this year.

I just can't see redoing a deal that has 3 years left on it. It sets a HORRIBLE precedent. It will be a never ending turnstile of players holding out and make the cap impossible to manage long term.

We won't redo it but I could see us moving all of his guarantees up to this year with a promise that we'll offer an extension next year, pretty much exactly ala Beast Mode. Cam is that kind of important to us.

I hope this won't be one of those "you don't know what you have until it's gone" things, but Okung hasn't been that good for a while.

Even if he's just passable I'm sure he'll get offers, but I'm not convinced he'll be looking at a robust bidding war.

Yeah, his was the last year of the big 1st round contracts and I doubt he will get offered anywhere near what he got as a rookie.
Having said that, he's a good LT when healthy, but I don't see the Hawks being the top bidder for his services.
Maybe Poole will be able to start at LT next year if Okund does leave.
Hopefully he gets some playing time this year just to feel the speed and power of play at the NFL level.

Actually Okung leaving next year will not cost us any dead money because this is the last year of his deal, he will be a FA. That 2.3 cap hit would be if we were to release him this year. Although we have a lot of FA next year we actually have a lot of other money that is going to be freed up as well. Letting Okung, Irvin, and Mebane go combined with the 10+ mil in dead money we have now and our almost 7 mil in current cap space we should have well over 30 mil. A chunk of that will be taken up with rising contracts and guys we need to resign (Ryan and Sweezy) but our FO has done a masterful job of working the cap/staggering extensions.

Obviously what I think about the O-Line and what PC/JS/Cable think are 2 (maybe 3 or 4) different things. I would have drafted Decastro over Bruce Irvin - what do I know? I would rather have Okung than ?????? at LT, though. Someone needs to show me the who before I'm cool with it, though I think the who may have just been RW and Bobby.

Last year we had good reasons to expect big things from this team (though I was far more confident the year before). This season, however, if the offensive line can be good enough, (the teams only question mark), I think we will have the best team yet. Better than last year's team by quite a bit because of the MUCH improved defensive line, receiving corps and special teams, and even better than the team from two years ago.

I think we're looking at the greatest team is Seahawks history, the one that will always be remembered as the high water mark of the Seahawks dynasty.
I predict a 13-3 or 12-4 record, another division championship and Superbowl victory.

Wags cap numbers are finally in for his contract. Looks good for the first 3 years, then yikes! 13.6 AND 14.1 are huge cap hits for and ILB, but who knows how high the cap will be by then? *I never know how to format these. The first Number is the cap hit the second number is the dead cap if he's released.
CAP HIT DEAD CAP (IF RELEASED)
2015 Contract details by year 25 $2,970,663 $20,370,663
2016 Contract details by year 26 $6,100,000 $17,400,000
2017 Contract details by year 27 $7,600,000 $11,800,000
2018 Contract details by year 28 $13,600,000 $5,200,000

There is a lot to like about this 2015 team. There has been for awhile. What I think makes the team from 2013 so spectacular is the depth we had on Defense. I'm not liking our paper thin (at least it seems that way to me now) depth. Cary Williams goes down and who comes in? Sherm? in 2013, someone from the bench was so talented he was the SB MVP.... so while I think I like this cast of starting characters better, I'm not so sure that I like the whole 15 crew better than that deep azz 13 crew. Time will tell. MAS
