Losing with class

Postby Hawktawk » Mon Jan 19, 2015 9:22 pm

They had the game won. They were just a few seconds from moving on and then they were going home instead. The QB was obviously furious about the late game collapse but he quickly blinked, looked to the sky and moved towards the exit asking the coach how they could improve and get to the next level. His press conference was cheerful and optimistic. The coach and team admitted their errors, congratulated the winners and flew home to prepare for the following season.

That team was the 2012 Seahawks in the wild divisional loss to Atlanta....Talk about giving it away!!!! But even as a devastated fan that day I was excited for the future because the coach and players were excited for the future.

Contrast that to what we saw from the Packers Coach and QB among others and its easy to see why they are 2-4 in the playoffs since their Super Bowl appearance 5 years ago. The gap between the Seahawks organization and some of the "glamour" franchises is wide and growing wider.

Although the Hawks were behind most of the atlanta game I love the comparison. When I last night seen rogers his post game presser I could not believe it, he literately threw everyone his coach, his oline, dline, hell I think he even threw the kitchen sink under the bus. All he could say was when asked about his defense late in the game was "they gave up a couple of scores" no mention about the fact that they gave him 5 turnovers in the game and he was himself to incompetent to get a single TD out of those 5 turnovers. Now he can be right about being more aggressive but in the last three years they have played the two top defenses in the nfl 2012-2013 whiners 4x and 2013-2014 Hawks 3x and they are 0-7, maybe he just got bitter because he realized that all those sports analyzers are wrong, he realized that he him self is just a tat over mediocre LOL. And for some reason rogers managed to make the rest of the Nation feel sorry for the packers and make them hate the Hawks and their fans.....Man I love being a Seahawk Fan

Hawktalk - Very well said.

That 2012 team, in many ways, remains my favorite in Seahawk history.

The 2012 team was very similar to the 1983 squad. Both teams went on the road to win a playoff game and their seasons were a precursor to a long stretch of some great football. We got all the way to the AFCCG in '83, which was the high water mark for the franchise for 22 years until 2005 and the squad that went to XL. Like '12, the '83 team featured the début of an unknown quarterback, Dave Krieg, who went on to lead us to a lot of improbable victories. '83 featured a great running back, Curt Warner, and a solid defense with a hard hitting safety.

Sound familiar?

I remember well RD. Those Knox teams were more like the current one than the Holmgren era teams. Holmy got a little farther in his best year but Knox's teams had the mental toughness edge. But no mistaking it we are living in the good old days right now.

They very easily could be playing for their 3rd. Lombardi in a row, but, alas it wasn't to be but I remember the players said they could see the summit and that the next year they would get there. They did, and they're Baaack!!!!

Agree with all the previous posts. I feel like we are living in the real golden age of some legendary Seahawks teams. Sunday's game will always be remembered for the toughness and grit exhibited by so many players. Marcus Trufant said on the Barbershop Radio Show how proud he was to have worn a Seahawks uniform when he saw what Thomas and Sherman did, not just for their contracts or their team, but for the entire area. Tru.

In all fairness, I think the NFL watching world (at least those who don't like the Hawks) point to Sherman's post NFCCG comments last year, Sherm's "you mad, bro?" and Doug's rant this year and count those as evidence that we are classless. I personally understand the difference, but the words I see typed above would fall on deaf ears around these parts, that is for sure.

I think that most people find Aaron Rogers and the Packers more palatable than your Seattle Seahawks. The way Aaron blamed everyone but himself is way passive aggressive and childish....not what you want to see from the leader of your franchise. I hope Russell and Pete never behave like that. Peyton Manning was more classy after a royal beat-down than Rogers was after this loss.

Yea, our current team has a lot more in common with Knox's teams than they do Holmgren's.

You're right, S4E, I felt in 2012 that we had the best team in the NFC and in all likelihood would have beaten both the Niners and the Ravens if we could have gotten past Atlanta.

It goes without saying that this is the best period of Seahawk football in franchise history.

I remember the '83 season well, too.

Great year.

Chuck Knox came in and finally got us into the post season.

The "original" Curt Warner was such a great RB.

We shocked the Dolphins at the good ol' Orange Bowl, before falling flat in the AFCCG.

Still, good times back then.

This thread is perfect for bringing up another part of "losing with class" that the Packers just did not do.
The TE who failed to come down with the on sides kick, as he came to the sideline, the coach just JUMPED HIS BUTT! He let him have it!
Now, I can understand that, I get that, Pete would have handled it much differently, and I personally think much better, but I get the old school butt chewing he deserved there.
But afterwards, as he was sitting there on the sideline, I think I saw exactly one player even talk to him. Worse, during the many post game interviews, the Packers players just threw him under the bus in the media.

Contrast that with Kearse, who was well on his way to being the goat. He'd had three ugly drops, letting two clank off his hands into defenders arms, and had been the target on two other picks, and both times he'd failed to get separation, and at least once, been too slow to react to turn defender and knock the ball away.
Yet our players, Wilson and Baldwin in particular, were staying positive, and saying that he was going to get another chance, and that they were still going to win.

The Packers let their wounded fend for themselves, and even sacrifice them to the media. They form a circular firing squad, the QB throws the coach under the bus, blaming the lack of aggressive play calling, and the other players all blame the TE.
Our guys just get mad and rally around each other.
HUGE difference!

For as dysfunctional as this team may appear at times, or at least to the media, the real truth is this team is VERY functional, they really do play for each other, they really do have each others backs.

I agree 100%, Monkey my Man. There is a huge differnence. There is such a big difference that I think it could be lost on us in here that most other NFL fans find the Hawks, their coach and their fans classless. They are wrong, of course...& I say that (I think) objectively.

When the players speak up, how they do it and what they speak about is so different. But it really is like shouting into the wind to try and convince a Niner fan of these differences. It's been frustrating but in 2015 I'm going to quit caring.

Yes! I found exactly what i am talking about!!
Watch this video I link below and you'll see what I meant.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29zKvKSRNgk

Man the disparity between the two teams is incredible.
One throws their TE under the bus, the other, has two guys on defense who get LEGITIMATELY HURT, and have EVERY excuse to quit playing, who both come back into the game, when all seems lost, and make HUGE tackles, through pain.
Watch how guys treat Kearse after his horrible day, compared to the way Packers ignore their guy.

Sorry but the more I see, the more I lose all respect for that team. Aaron Rodgers whining, the players blaming the coach and each other, and Fabio once again taking DIRTY cheap shots....seriously, screw that team man!
Discount double REALITY CHECK! Your team sucks, the better team WON!

Man I LOVE this team!
