HawkShack NFL Pickem League

Postby Distant Relative » Fri Aug 29, 2014 10:11 am

I did this for a few years back at the old PI forum.

So let this be the 1st Annual HackShack pickem League. Tried to make it easier to join this year with a sign up link. Click the link and enter group ID: 36815 and
Password: champions. Then type in your handle and you should be set. Let me know if there are any problems.

Been runner up in the Pickem pool before...but won the survival pool twice ('11,'12).

It seems every year we have a couple three join after the first or second game ... no need to handicap yourself up front, you can always drop out if you get to where you feel hopelessly behind later ... (we always have a few of those too)

OK, I made my picks. I went against the conventional wisdom about 5 times. You have to be able to pick upsets if you want to win is my motto.
This is my first time I have to admit, I never entered over at P-I for some reason, I think it had to do with having to go to an off site room. I also had had a bad experience with clicking on another site set up by a regular in a different P-I Forum and the person would then span everyone who signed up. Sorry I didn't trust you DR but I was leery of everyone after that.

So far only 2 of the teams I picked for this week end are letting me down, Oakland and Philly, Chicago was letting me down but they have come back to pull in to a tie. There are other games that could go against me. I almost sorry I went against Atlanta at home, but saints are still leading. There is also the afternoon games and the two Monday night games where I could go from boom to bust.

I am most proud of picking the Titans over KC.

Oh,oh, Atlanta just got an int. in their end zone to stop a very good Saints drive.

Only allowed two losses? I will probably be out the first week LOL!

OMG!!! New England let me down! I guess I should NOT have went against home field advantage. Oh, and Oakland let me down against the Jets. I went with HFA on that one only to have it bite me. Oh, and the two over time games could also go against me.

This is the prime reason I do not gamble!

The first week is always the toughest in an NFL pick 'em league.

Things start to take shape for us now. More predictable.

It's already been a crazy season.

My hunch paid off that the Cards would beat SF. I wasn't sure with AZ starting a backup QB.

I always underestimate the Lions at home, and I never would've imagined the Steelers whacking the Panthers in Carolina.

Overall, I think the Seahawks are in great shape to go far this year. All the other playoff calibre teams have as many if not more flaws than we do at the moment.

Boy, I sure didn't see the Cowboys beating the Saints like that. Didn't see a lot of games turning out like they did.

A lot of people talk about our home/away differential, but what about the Saints? I'm not sure if I'll ever bet on them when they're on the road if they fizzle against that lame Cowboy defense. I thought Drew Brees would have torched that lame Cowboy's secondary.

Jerruh! ;)

Actually though, the 'Girls were my upset special of the week, but more because I have a thing about 3 or less point home dogs than any faith in the Cowboys (although that O-line of theirs looks to be coming together).

LOL.

You definitely got a knack for this stuff, Bob.

I think I mentioned last year in my Congrats to you (for winning the pickem) that you did better than the entire NFL panel for USA Today's "experts".

We'll see how it shakes out at the end.

Have no idea about tonight, though I think I went with the Patriots for the heck of it.

The more I look around the league, the better I feel about our chances of repeating. Everybody has flaws, including us, but I think we have the wherewithal to overcome just about anything. We have the best decision making QB in the business, a still very good RB in Beast, and a defense that's still stellar.

That's a good place to be.

Go Seahawks!!!

Thanks Zorn, I wonder how much that USA Today expert gig pays ... or better yet, how to get the job!

Seriously though, I've had my bad years too, last year was a good one, and it's still early this year.

The Bengals continue to kill my record on TNF.

LOL, man, those guys are Complete posers.

All the emotional edge you can ask for, and they come out and lay a 3pt egg vs a team that (while much improved) hadn't won a division game going back several years.

Incredible.

Meanwhile, the Browns are showing a lot of heart. Their SOS may be whatever, but they are relevant in November for a change.
