True and Nick Emmanwori has been hurt all season also. That doesn't help the secondary.

Spoon has one interception in three years. He doesn't seem to have good instincts for the ball or good hands. He's a very aggressive corner that plays physically. That fits more the strong safety, though I guess he is too small for a strong safety. He's got a little bit of pass rushing ability. He seems ok with passes defensed. He's a good tackler usually. He plays like a strong safety at the corner position. I wonder if they could bulk him up some and move him to strong safety.

I guess we'll see in time. Corner in the NFL different than corner in college. If you can't intercept the ball, hard to be a top corner.

Spoon as a Safety makes no sense. He isn't built to be a safety. He is a "man-press cover corner," and the reason he only has one INT is that his coverage skills are good, so most offenses don't throw his way. Where he is suffering is wrapping up on tackles. Look at the last time he played, the late TD, tell you what I make it easy for you, here is the link to that play.

If that was Kam Chancellor or Earl Thomas, or even Richard Sherman in their third year, they are making that tackle in the open field.

We are so talent-deficient at cornerback that moving Spoon out of it would be a bad idea.

That was a crappy play. Was that even Spoon's coverage? If so, that was a big misread as he was way out of position to make the tackle or stop the catch.

Yeah. We are so talent deficient that moving Spoon a bad idea. I wish he was getting better.

The reason he has 1 int in three years is he's not good at making ints. He even has very few college interceptions. Devon has five ints in four years of college football. Earl Thomas who was the 15th overall pick had 8 ints in a single year in college, 10 ints in 2 years. Richard Sherman switched over to CB late in his college career. He has 2 ints his first year switching over to CB midyear and 4 ints his final year as CB. We all know how good Earl and Sherm were at taking the football at the NFL level.

So if Devon isn't good at ints and is not great at making tackles, he may have problems improving because NFL top level corners generally should be having some real good interception years. Devon had a great first year and an ok second year. Now he's riding the bench early year 3.

Dude is the 5th overall pick. I guess I just expect more. I hope he gets back and lives up to what we saw in year 1 and also improves his ability to take the ball as that is what top level corners do as they improve. Tight coverage, take the ball as knocking it down is nice, but taking it is better.

Not all picks hit their draft position. Spoon was a big hitter and it looked like he could be a good fit but for some reason he's not producing at a high level. Does he have some nagging injuries?
Having said that, I believe that with any 1st round pick he should be a solid starter as a base and anything above that is gravy. Cross is an example of that, too along with many others in the NFL.

I'm concerned about our defense as we go up against the Jags this Sunday. If we get the Trevor Lawrence we saw on Monday evening, it will likely be another shootout. As others have mentioned. Our defense is good when the starters are healthy but we lack depth and there are a lot of injuries right now. No Hawks even close to Bucs receivers on many plays last week. Probably playing way off because of lack of coverage speed or relying heavily on zone coverage.

The Jags are an interesting story being they've been bad for so long. I wonder if they will maintain the roll they are on or if they will have an emotional downfall and come out flat. That happens to a lot of young teams and teams learning how to win in Pro sports.

Anybody watch the Giants wup the Eagles tonight? The Giants have some exciting young players. Like the Jags, another young team learning how to win. I like to see that, frankly. It's good for the game.

Yeah, I watched all but the last 5 minutes or so. The Giants are a different team with Dart at quarterback. He didn't put-up eye-popping numbers, didn't even break 200 yards passing. But he managed the game well, made good decisions. Who in the hell is Cam Skattebo? 98 yards rushing and 3 TD's.

The Eagles, too, look like a different team. About all they know how to run right is the Tush Push. Once last night, they ran it on 4 straight plays. This season has been really hard to figure out so far.

Skattebo is a legit new RB in this league. He is also on two of my fantasy teams!

River, Cam Skattebo is a new name to you? Didn't you see any AZ State games last year? Especially the Peach Bowl against Texas? His performance in the Peach Bowl was practically superhuman. I have never seen seen any back able to shed so many tackles! His balance is amazing! Not fast but super strong with amazing instincts. He's a combination of Marshawn Lynch and Houdini. Ashton Jeanty got all the press but Skattebo was much more fun to watch and was the runner up to Jeanty in total yards gained.

I haven't watched college football since the Pac-12 disintegrated. I'm fed up with college athletics. With their transfer portal, NIL, and the most recent conference realignment, it's nothing more than the rich getting richer. So yes, Skattebo is a new name to me.

Eagles run defense is suspect. They are missing some key players on that defense. It's showing.

Jalen Hurts is not a good passer. That is also showing when they can't hold the score low.

Skattebo reminds me of a modern day John Riggins. Always running down hill and over people.
