Extend Charles Cross?

Postby NorthHawk » Fri Jun 13, 2025 7:12 am

There's an article in Profootballrumors.com about possibly extending him. He's been a solid but not great LT and only missed 4 games so far and is the first player the Seahawks have picked up the option on his rookie contract.
With a lot of teams looking for starting caliber Tackles or upgrades to existing OLs, we might have to pay more than JS expects in order to just maintain the current talent.
Personally barring an absolutely horrible year where he shows he can't play in the new Offense or major injury where full recovery is doubtful, I think we should extend him. LTs are too hard to get to let a 25 year old (next year) leave for a possible 3rd or 4th round Comp pick.

I'm all for it. Although not spectacular and arguably hasn't lived up to his top 10 draft selection, he's been a solid player. In three years, Cross has started 48 out of a possible 51 games and was much improved last season, so he appears to be getting better. He's by far the best player on our offensive line. Do what it takes to get him signed now.

I'm of the opinion that with high draft picks the number 1 criteria for evaluation is if they can be an everyday starter over the course of his career. Anything better than that is gravy but a player that can win and keep a position for 8 to 10 years is worth a top 10 pick to me.
So with that in mind, I hope they re-sign him to a long term deal. We could end up with much worse if we don't.

Agreed with everyone above. The best ability is availability, and he's been a solid, available starter since arriving. Lock him up.

All Cross needs is better line mates and time to gel with them. I say absolutely extend him.

Yeah. Extend him.

Problem with being a Seattle fan with LTs, you're always comparing any LT to Walter Jones, the best LT in NFL history or nearly so. Everyone looks disappointing to us that isn't as good as Big Walt.

Cross is doing well. He has stayed on the field. He does the job. I think he would get better with good O-line continuity and QB stability. Rating O-line is hard when you have a revolving door at OC, O-line personnel, O-line coach, and revolving QB. It's hard to develop O-line without consistency. I think Cross would be even better if he had the same O-line personnel, coach, OC, and QB for a few years at least.

I guess it depends on what he and his new agent think he's worth on the open market. It's not beyond possible that JS would think Cross's worth is much less than his market value.
