New Raiders HC. I actually think it's a great hire, he's good at building a winner, won't likely be around long enough to reach his coaching expiration date.

Good for him. I wish him well. They need a culture change and they should get it from him.
Now let the Geno to LV rumors begin...

Well, at least he didn't go to the Niners. Even staying within the same conference could have created a rub.

Raiders are in great hands. Pete is the ultimate team and culture builder. And they need it! It will be a fun watch from afar.

That's hell of a division now. That division should be fun. Andy Reid in KC dominating. Harbaugh in San Diego looking to build a new contender. Shaun Payton in Denver looking to get back to the Super Bowl. Now Pete Carroll in Las Vegas, Mr. Always Compete himself ready to go head to head with his old rivals. Old School Coaching with a bunch of tough competitors. That is going to be one tough division if the head coaches can get their teams built.

I don't know about Geno going to the Raiders, but I wouldn't count out a reunion between Pete and Russell. He's a FA as of March 1st.

Wonder if they'd trade Crosby for DK and a #1.

I doubt that Russell plays for Pete again as he burned his bridges. Besides, there's a lot of veteran quarterbacks that are likely going to be available, ie Cousins, Rodgers, Darnold, et al. Besides, Russell is supposedly in talks with the Steelers for an extension, so he might not be available.

Pete's a defensive guy, and I can't see him trading one of the best edge rushers in the league for a temperamental WR.

Is that a done deal? All I can find is rumors. Do you have a link?

Russell talks a lot about wanting to be a Seahawk, a Bronco, a Steeler, et al. You can't take what he says at face value anymore.

Oh, I saw a bunch of articles like that, reporting on the rumors and speculation which is natural in a situation like this. I guess we'll just have to discount it as more rumors. The last I heard, Russell wanted to remain with the Steelers and was engaged in contract talks. The ink hasn't even dried on Pete's contract, I doubt that he'd be making major roster decisions like this so soon. He hasn't even hired an offensive coordinator.

Which is quite natural when you have a player and coach who were together for a decade and are in situations like Russ and Pete are now. Those dots are really easy to connect. Plus, toss into that the fact that we are entering the slow time of the season for sports writers where they need juicy stories to keep their audience clicking on their articles.

Well, Pete passed one Super Bowl over to Tom Brady, maybe he can get him another one. haha!

Kidding aside, I'm happy for Pete, I will always be a fan of his. If the expectation is to turn around that culture, they hired the right guy. I listened to his introductory presser and it was the same old Petespeak, same verbage that we've heard before. I suppose it's fresh to those in Vegas, though.

FWIW, Jake Heaps was on Brock and Salk last week and said Pete and Russell have spoken and their relationship is "more than cordial", so don't rule out RW to Vegas.

I'm glad that Pete and Russell have buried the hatchet.

I'm pretty neutral in my feelings toward Pete's future in Las Vegas. I'll be forever grateful to him for giving us the best period of Seahawk football in franchise history, but I don't really care what kind of success, or lack thereof, he has in Vegas. I'm glad that he went to an AFC team so there's less of a distraction. If he does get the franchise turned around, then it definitely moves him closer to the HOF.

But he has his work cut out for him. Mark Davis is a crappy owner, so bad that the league didn't want him anywhere near LA when they were in the process of relocating teams. And it's hard to say how Brady and Pete are going to mesh. Pete is well known as a control freak and might not appreciate interference. And Pete's last 7-8 years were nothing to brag about, and why he no longer has a job with the Hawks.

As far as Russell going to the Raiders, it's obviously a possibility. As a matter of fact, Steelers owner Dan Rooney has said that the team isn't bringing back both Fields and Russell, and conventional wisdom says that they're keeping the younger, more mobile Fields. But it depends on who Pete hires as an OC.

Pete, or maybe it was Tom Brady, just hired Chip Kelly as Raiders OC.

This seems like strange bedfellows to me, an odd couple. Here we have Chip Kelly, who absolutely destroyed his own team's defenses in Philly with his Quack Attack offense being hired by one of the brightest defensive minds of this century. Something doesn't fit.

Ages of the Las Vegas Raiders coaching staff:

HC: Pete Carroll - 74
AHC: Marvin Lewis - 66
OC: Chip Kelly - 61
QB: Greg Olsen - 62
DC: Patrick Graham - 46
ST: Tom McMahon - 56

Not exactly a youth movement. I guess they're afraid to bring in 30 somethings and turn them loose in Sin City.

His Offense was more traditional at Ohio State, so maybe.

But we're going to find out. Maybe a year off has opened Petes eyes as to how the NFL works these days. The common thought is their real issue is getting a solid QB, so depending on how that works itself out they may end up being more of a run first team like Pete has used. If they to get a QB capable of being consistent and accurate then it will be interesting to see what type of Offense they come up with.

You're right. Greg Olson (not former TE Greg Olsen spelled with an 'e' in the last name) is a Richland high grad. That was something I didn't realize. Thanks for mentioning it.

Even though I was glad to see Pete go—it was clearly time—I really liked cheering for the Hawks when he was here. Even aside from the wins, I think he did things the right way, most of the time at least.

I liked that he was unapologetically in favor of athletes being themselves; he didn't try to corral their eccentricities, and that made the Hawks a very fun team to follow.

I liked that he [at least in public] talked about the importance of players' mental health; the stigmas against guys talking about mental health challenges are harmful, and I think his hiring of sports psychologists and related ways he ran the team worked against those stigmas.

I liked his personality on the sidelines and his enthusiasm.

I wish him the best, and if he can take the Chiefs down a peg in the process, all the better.

I agree, with some exceptions, like there always is, Pete was/is a very good player's coach, and I personally liked him for those first few years. But after a while, his high energy style, like a kid on a sugar high, began to wear on me. I was glad to see him go. But I'll be forever grateful to him for providing us the best era of Seahawks football in franchise history.

I'm with Pete like I am Russell in that I'm pretty neutral on how he does post Seahawks. Well, that's probably not quite true as I have to admit to chuckling a little when Russell does poorly, and I know I'm not going to be like that when Pete loses. But I damn sure am not going to become a Raiders fan, either.
