Geno Smith

Postby Russczar » Sun Nov 03, 2024 2:17 pm

When is McDonald going to realize Geno Smith isn't a consistent starter. We've had 2 years when we could've and should've drafted a QB. At this point I then Sam Howell would be a better starter at the position. Geno folds under pressure and gets happy feet, followed by ugly interceptions. If McDonald really wants a fresh start with this team, he needs to start at QB position. At 25 million a year, Seattle is WAY OVER PAYING Smith. He's a great back up, but that's just it. He's a back up. There's a reason he's never been a starter with any other club he's been with. Just my 2 cents.

I don't even know where to begin with your post. There are so many things that can be debated in your post, but I will just some up with, "I DISAGREE' with you.

He’s not the long term answer at QB, but he’s the best we have.
And MacDonald doesn’t have final say on player acquisitions, that would be Schneider who has not drafted a QB of note since Wilson.

We got 99 problems but Geno ain't one.

That said we do need to draft us a QBOTF in the next couple drafts.

We know we need a new QB. Look at the QBs from last year picked with high picks, most don't work out. The number one overall pick has been benched. Anthony Richardson is tired and he was the number 4 pick. The only guy looking like a starting QB is CJ Strode. One guy.

The only team that seems to handle the QB position well in the draft is Green Bay. They tend to draft a QB, let him sit behind their starter developing, then stick him in once the old starter moves on.

No other team seems to do this well. At least Schneider didn't pull the trigger on a dud.

That last interception on a pass that was supposed to go to TE Barner should have never been thrown. He threw it to the spot where Barner was supposed to be but Barner got impeded at the line of scrimmage and couldn't get to the spot. The defender was there instead. Smith threw it anyway.

Geno is making consistently poor decisions under pressure. But it is also true that he is under pressure a lot of the time and being sacked a lot. So, a big part of the problem with Geno's poor performance needs to be laid on the O line. The O line is not protecting him well and the O line is not opening up running lanes for K9 which is causing an imbalance in play calling with pass vs. run. Perennial O Line problems.

If you watch the replay of that play it shows the defender holding Barners arm so he couldn’t get to that spot. However that doesn’t excuse the pass being thrown.

In my opionion saying geno isn't a problem is silly to say the least... The number one mark of a qualified nfl quarterback is consistency. Geno is anything but... I would say geno is our number 3 problem out of your 99...

I think he would be much better with an upgraded OL. It doesn’t have to be the best, just competent in both run blocking and pass protection. But he is who he is and making mistakes under pressure is part of it.

I fall somewhere in the middle. He's not our #3 problem, but he's a lot higher than #99.

Over the past 4 games, Geno's thrown 6 TD passes and 6 INT', 3 of those picks coming in last weekend's loss. They're not all on him to be sure, but even Geno admitted that he's been letting his team down.

He struggles to keep calm under pressure - and with the pass protection he's been getting it's a reasonable reaction but the better QBs find a way to minimize the loss on the play.

The only reason Geno is a problem is because we elevated a backup to starter and expected him to be the franchise QB. That is where the problem lies.

Did anyone really think Geno was our next Super Bowl QB? Really? I did not. He's a bridge QB during a rebuild to keep the team offense serviceable until we can draft a franchise QB. Geno is making good money that should set him up for retirement late in his career. But he was not the answer at QB ever.

His first year as a starter hear he did well, much better than I expected but he's still essentially the same player who makes some fantastic plays but also makes some real boneheaded decisions - and that's the story of his career, even in college if I remember correctly. But at 34 he doesn't have a long term future. What I would want to know is how much of a mentor would he be if we did draft a young QB and sat him for around a year. Would he ignore or evade the kid or would he want to show him what he has learned both good and bad? If he's the type that looks at the young player as a threat then he wouldn't be a good bridge QB but if he helps their development by explaining what he's seeing and what the Defenses are doing along with how to prepare off the field then he would be worth the current money we are paying him. But I don't see him making $40 Million. I can't blame him for trying to get that though.

Geno is a Dead Man Walking

Johnny Schneider likes to play 500-ball
