I'm about 45%-55% as far as my feelings towards Russell goes. I don't like the way he behaved those last few years with us, with the "I'm getting hit too much," the rumors about his trying to get Pete fired, his outright lying to fans about his intentions, has caused me to lean slightly towards rooting against him, but not to the point where it's a fist pumping high five type of rooting when he does poorly, more like a little chuckle under my breath.
If I'm ever in a stadium when Russell announced, I won't boo him nor will I cheer madly, rather politely applaud in recognition of all the great things he did for us. And just a FYI, trust me, our friend Hawktawk was not alone in his hatred for Russell. There's a significant percentage of the fan base who feel as he does.

We have to be a little bit careful about attributing some of this weird stuff to Russell. A year or two ago, there was a rumor out that Russell had said that on his diet, that he didn't take a crap for 3 days. It turned out that was false, made up by a troll as there's no evidence of him actually saying that. I can't find anything that documents Russell as having said
"Let's Weld." As strange and cringy as Russell can be, I don't think that even he would say such a silly thing.
But the Subway commercials, the
"Let's Ride", the knee highs on the airliner to Europe, were all true. His saying and doing silly stuff like that is a magnet for rumor mongers that like to troll him. The problem is that he's set himself up for these trolls, that if somebody says something outrageous about anyone else no one would buy it. But the fact that Russell has been so goofy in the past that it makes it believable.
