Looks like a Connor Williams signing is happening

Connor Williams Expected to Sign With Seattle Seahawks Within '48-72 Hours':

https://www.si.com/nfl/seahawks/seahawk ... 8-72-hours

I been a fan of this guy since 18, I believe I had him in the 1st in my 3-deep that year. If healthy, and it looks like he will be, he's a huge upgrade in the middle.

A center. That would be a nice pickup.

I sure hope this happens, but according to Michael Shawn Dugar's tweet about half hour ago, it sounds like it is coming down to the Seahawks and the Ravens (whom he visited with today). With the Ravens having Linderbaum already at center and Vorhees at left guard (where Williams played in Dallas), I would hope we have the benefit of having a definite full time spot open.

Fingers crossed....

A multi year deal would be nice to solidify the IOL for once. And as the article says it would spread out the Cap hit, too.
I'll believe it when I see it.

Both teams probably have a way to spread out the cap hit. Ravens are a team that wants to win now, so I’m guessing they have a strong offer. Not getting my hopes up.

I think it depends on how much he wants to play Center. He’s not going to unseat their starting Center and would have to play Guard unless Lindbaum (is that his name?) gets injured. The Seahawks also released the other Center Novitsky when they signed LB Blake Lynch. I don’t know if releasing a backup C at this time means anything but it is curious timing.

I like the Trumpism from Drew Rosenhaus on Connor Williams

"He's healthy. He's going to be able to play in the first game," Rosenhaus said. "It is the most amazing recovery I have ever seen in my career."

Signed for one year deal. They are probably being cautious because it was injury history. He does seem healthy now, so this is a huge signing for our offense! https://x.com/adamschefter/status/18209 ... pMkhpLC7ng

Disappointed it's a one year deal but I'm happy with the signing.

You got the good mojo ball rolling Cbob! Glad it's done, definite upgrade to the O-line.

I’m concerned that it’s only a 1 year deal.
If the pattern continues, he will play well and we won’t re-sign him and we will be back on the OC carousel next year.
But maybe JS will surprise me.

Even if he doesn't work out, it is still a good investment, costing about 3 million. The best news about the signing is that J S is paying more attention to strengthening the offensive line. He has repeatedly down graded guards in general with his "over paid" comments. The turnover in that unit has been destructive, in that the needed cohesiveness and the need to know well the guy playing next to him. Maybe McDonald has made a message that he wants continuity.

Doesn't say much for Olu... our draft pick last year when we signed a player who is coming off an ACL tear this far into camp.
We played games with our draft picks again and we could of drafted the #2 center in the draft mid 2nd round instead of a longshot in round #6.

Unless they re-sign him after this year, there will be no continuity. The OL usually takes a couple of years of the same players playing in the same spots together to get good. JS doesn't seem to think that way, but if you look at our OL the last decade or more it hasn't been very good and it's probably because of the consistent changes.
This is JS's method of operation with the IOL. Sign players for cheap and let them go when they perform well and get another cheap player to fill in.
Max Unger was the first example: He's a Pro Bowl Center? Trade him away even though he was the Offensive Captain and they didn't have a viable replacement at Center or for Captain.
I think the probability is high that if Williams plays well, JS won't want to re-sign him and the same things up front will continue to haunt us.

I don't see how it says anything about Olu. I don't understand the train of thought that Olu is now useless because of this signing. Connor Williams has played 4 seasons at OG and 2 at C. Seattle lacks veteran presence at both OG spots and C. Williams could very well be one of those OG spots.

It seems there's unreasonable expectations for a 5th round rookie to have immediately started, and, then, because he didn't and he wasn't amazing in his limited action, he's done. If he's not it, that's fine, but there would be a huge advantage if he can develop and become a started, so it's far from time to give up on him.

Since we haven't done much to address the center situation in the offseason, it's reasonable to assume that our new regime has penciled him in as a starter. There are those who feel that Olu is the answer to our years long problem at center, and with this signing, it would seem that assumption they're making might not be valid, so I can see where JS is coming from.

Looks like a veteran signing for more quality depth to me. Help Olu and the other guys learn the position and see how they do while having a veteran presence in place to back them up, help them learn, and step in if necessary as you develop your young talent.

I hope that’s the case. It would suggest that Olu or the other OC would have a future.
