2024 Schedule Release

Postby River_Dog » Wed May 15, 2024 5:13 am

The NFL's 2024 schedule, complete with dates and times, is to be released this evening at 5pm PT. It's become quite an event, as the NFL, never one to miss an opportunity to make a buck, has realized that there's a lot of interest since people need exact dates and times in order to make their travel plan, so they milk it for all its worth. Each team will be releasing their own schedule.

It's a little late this year. Normally, they hold it on the 2nd Thursday in May, which would have been the 9th. It's possible that the international series has been the cause of the delay as they try to give participating teams a bye on the following week, but the league hasn't explained the delay. It's also odd that they're releasing it today rather than tomorrow as all 30 MLB teams are in action today and only

Some of the schedule has already leaked out. The Ravens play the Chiefs in Kansas City in the season opener on Thursday the 5th, the Packers will play the Eagles on Friday 9/6 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the first Friday game to be held in Week 1, and the Jets will be playing in Santa Clara in the first MNF game of the year. It was in this very same game, the first MNF game in 2023, that Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles on the first series.

Rumor has it that our season opener will be at home vs. the Broncos on Sunday 9/8.

I'm still waiting for a Seattle @ Raiders matchup. Maybe next season.

This isn't official, but it's supposedly pretty close:

These are not 100% confirmed, there are some guesses filled in, but through some accounts this is a 'likely' outcome/possibility:
Week 1: v. Denver Broncos
Week 2: at New England Patriots
Week 3: v. Miami Dolphins
Week 4: at Detroit Lions (MNF)
Week 5: v. New York Giant
Week 6: v. San Francisco 49ers (TNF)
Week 7: at Atlanta Falcons
Week 8: v. Buffalo Bills
Week 9: v. Los Angeles Rams
Week 10: BYE
Week 11: at San Fransisco 49ers
Week 12: v. Arizona Cardinals
Week 13: at New York Jets
Week 14: at Arizona Cardinals
Week 15: v. Green Bay Packers (SNF)
Week 16: v. Minnesota Vikings
Week 17: at Chicago Bears (TNF)
Week 18: at Los Angeles Rams
** Once again this not 100% confirmed but likely at least 70-80% of it is spot on**

It looks like the leak was right. All that was missing was the kickoff times.

Might try to go to the Falcons game if it doesn't conflict with out annual audit (which is usually last week of October). Luckily I'm the one that schedules the audit!

I wouldn't mind going to that one, but my traveling buddy can't do it. Let's stay in touch.

Interesting we play the 49ers twice and done by week 11, and we play the Cardinals close, almost back to back. Seems the division race will be probably be determined before the last month of football is played

Well we know the Hawks and Lions put on a show every time they come together, and why wouldn't it be a primetime game.

No divisional games in the first month of the season, not until Week 6 in the 2nd week of October.

There's bound to be some odd-looking matchups as the league has to schedule a bye week for each team after an international game. It doesn't leave them with a lot of scheduling options and might explain why the release was later this year than it has been in the past.

That bye week is...perfectly acceptable. A week or two later is perfect, but Week 10 is just fine. It's nice to not have it in Weeks 5 or 6, which seems to happen too often.

For those of you who are interested, here's how the flex scheduling works:

Sunday Night Football (NBC):

Flexible scheduling is in effect during the following windows:
Up to three times between Weeks 5-14.
At the NFL’s discretion during Weeks 15-17.
Games initially scheduled for Sunday Night Football are subject to change.
Sunday afternoon games (or those listed as TBD) can be moved to Sunday night, Monday night, or Thursday night.
Sunday afternoon games may also be moved between 1:00 p.m. and 4:05 p.m. or 4:25 p.m. ET.

Monday Night Football (ESPN or ABC):

Flex scheduling can be used at the NFL’s discretion in Weeks 12-17.

Thursday Night Football (Amazon Prime):

Flex scheduling can be used up to twice between Weeks 13-17.
Any Thursday Night Football games before November 30 (such as Panthers vs. Bears in Week 10) are still off limits1.
For Week 18, the final weekend of the season, the scheduling of Saturday, Sunday afternoon, and Sunday night games is not assigned until six days prior to that week’s Saturday game.

In looking at the schedule, I can easily see us only winning 5 or 6 games with a possibility of 8.
At least that's how it looks to me without seeing the new schemes and players.

I can easily see 10: Split with the Rams, sweep the Cards, Broncos, Pats, Giants, Falcons, Jets, Vikings, and Bears.

Plus, there's other possibilities: We've played the Lions tough back there, winning twice in as many seasons. The Packers aren't giant killers, and we get them at home. No more Aaron Donald with the Rams.

Possibly, but we will be quite a different team and I doubt we beat the Jets if Rodgers is playing.
I still think the Bears need to be a concern. They've added talent on both sides of the ball and if Williams is the QB people think he is then they could be a real tough out.
Sweep the Cards - maybe but I doubt it and the Rams even without Donald will be a handful.
Falcons should be much better with Cousins at QB but the Giants and Vikings should be winnable.

I think this is a very favorable schedule. If Coach Mike is as good as he seems, I see no reason we can’t win at least 10 to 11 games. We should also start the season very strong; something like 5-2 seems very plausible.

Packers will be tough this year. Jordan Love is turning out to be the real deal at QB. Jets are an unknown. Great D and now AR is going to be at the helm on offense. They could be surprisingly good.

It's hard to handicap schedules this far out, but we are playing a 3rd place schedule. The bye comes at a decent time this year, in Week 10. It seems like we always get stuck with an early bye.
