Perhaps with last years draft and now actually doing something early instead of waiting for the frenzy to die down have they changed their talent acquisition philosophy a little?
1. Signing bonus: $20 million.
2. 2023 base salary: $3 million, fully guaranteed.
3. 2024 base salary: $11 million, $7 million of which is fully guaranteed at signing. The amount becomes fully guaranteed on the fifth day of the 2024 waiver system.
4. 2025 base salary: $16 million.
The deal also includes $510,000 per year in per-game roster bonuses. That’s $30,000 per game.
The contract can a short as a one-year, $23 million deal, given that $7 million in guarantees don’t fully vest until next year. Looking at all three seasons, it has a maximum annual value of $17.1 million.

I think one of our most aggressive FA signing so far has actually been Nwosu along with Sydney Rice. It really looks like this one blows the rest of them out of the water. I like the agression, hopefully it pays off.

He was a huge disappointment, and as our friend HT would say, it's addition by subtraction. His replacement can't help but to be an improvement. We also released Quinton Jefferson.

That's how I remember the Bennett and Avril acquisitions, too, that they were considered 2nd tier at the time of the signing. Both turned out to be way more of a value than Sydney Rice, who fought injuries and never lived up to the hype.
The other first tier FA signing that we're forgetting about is Matt Flynn, who was the top FA quarterback in 2012.

mykc14 wrote:Flynn was one of the top QB's available that year, but not the top. The top was actually Manning who, if I remember correctly, refused to even meet with PC/JS. I can't remember the story exactly but they had a plane waiting for him or something and he basically told them to F-off.

Oh, yeah, I remember now. Didn't Paul Allen send a jet to Denver to pick him up? Thanks for the reset!

I can't remember exactly what happened but it was something like that.

Neither is a change of pace guy although their styles were . Penny proved he belonged in the elite category over an 11 game stretch of truly astounding numbers . I do wish him well if we aren’t playing him but if the guy is healthy with Philly he’s going for 1500 and 15 touches .
NorthHawk wrote:I wish Penny well in PA. He just couldn’t stay healthy here.
It’s an incentive laden deal apparently and justly so.
We also tendered Ryan Neal at the lowest rate. $2.627M.
Aseahawkfan wrote:Penny on another one year prove it deal. I figured Seattle wasn't going to try any more after 5 years. 5 years is more than most players get a chance to play when they can't stay on the field. Penny's upside made teams keep hoping he would turn it around for a few years at least.
Ryan Neal tendered is good. He seems like solid depth.

Cool about Reed returning. If he’s still effective it really takes heat off the draft to take a DE early unless they see him as a NT.

I'd like to see us at least sign a FA center that has some experience, even if we intend to draft one, like at #20 (sorry RD, but that's the spot right now to get the BEST one in the draft.

RiverDog wrote:The only downside of the Jones acquisition is that he missed the last 4 games of the 2022 season due to a hip injury, but our medical staff must feel pretty confident that he has or will recover from it. Otherwise, every publication I've read is giving us an A or A- grade, and the terms of the deal are very fair.
The more I see about this acquisition, the more I like about it. We've addressed a major weakness in our D. Jones is young enough to be a big part of our future, not just some stop gap or bridge player. If we end up taking an edge rusher like Will Anderson that could have an immediate impact, it could transform our defense.
