Good for Geno. He deserves it. Very few thought he could do it, but he had a great season. Hopefully he can keep it going a few more years.

I’m not even sure it’s the right award . Comeback from what ? A career failure and bench warmer ? KO with a broken jaw from a teammate ?
I think what you said in your post after the chargers game “ the reincarnation of Geno smith “ is more accurate . That guy never existed in his entire career .
Everyone knew my position but even I didn’t expect team records .
What I never saw was the grittiness , the leadership and especially the sage humble personna and deep intellect . I remember Kj strongly endorsing him and saying he was an intellectual, great guy to talk to .
I knew he could play after last year but then week 1 mic drop “ they write me off but I ain’t write back “ .

I was even more impressed by “ my bad times would be a dream for anyone else . I’m still playing football , in the league “ juxtaposed against these whining guys making top money starting 10 years it was very refreshing , heartwarming .

My favorite was after the critical win vs the jets in which Geno played well . The first thing he did was seek out troubled first round pick Zach Wilson and hug that kid for probably 30 seconds while saying something to him , encouraging him and giving him advice , doing what Wilson’s own team wasn’t doing .

Geno is an imperfect man obviously but his showed me a genuineness and depth of character that is extremely rare in this business . I don’t know the future . I hope he’s with us but if he isn’t it was one of my more enjoyable seasons in my years of being a fan . An old old school type of year .

I think you have as good a chance with Geno as with quite a few other guys on contending teams if you have decent protection, a run game and some defense .

Careful Seahawks . Who was it that sang “ don’t know what you got until it’s gone ? Winger ? Cinderella ?
It’s a true fact .

Well, he was a starter for a couple of years then sat on the bench for 7 or 8 years and then when he got his chance he played far above what was expected.
So he came back from being relegated to the sidelines holding a clipboard. It doesn't have to be injuries, just not playing for a while and in this case it was a long time.

If ever there was a player that fits the definition of "comeback", it would be Geno Smith. Absolutely no one wanted him at this point last year and was signed by us only have every other team took a pass on him. To 'comeback' from a situation like that to having a Pro Bowl year is very remarkable.

As far as whether or not we bring him back, it will all come down to money (thanks, Captain Obvious!).

Hawk Talk acts like we dont like him. Its a matter of how old he is and was this year an aberration and not the norm. I just think you have to get a franchise guy this year with the number 5 pick, but I can see not doing it as well.

I would love to have Geno be our QB for the next few years, but I don't want him at over 30 mil/year unless it's manipulated so that you can get out of the contract after 1 year without much dead money. If it were a Rookie for 7 million or Geno for 15 million I'm picking Geno every time!!

I could go with Geno for another year or two, but no way do I want to get locked into some sort of 5 year deal that's going to hamstring us for years to come. Show him the money but leave ourselves with an escape hatch.

Voidable years with a solid guaranteed contract.

Yes good point although his 2 years starting he played mostly miserable football on a terrible team with a terrible coach and owner.

Its really a testimony to hard work and humility and paying attention in film study, staying in shape.
I wasn't some Geno fanboy going into 21. I didn't understand why he was on the roster instead of some young developmental guy until the guy who never gets hurt came off with the ball on our 2, 98 yards from a score against the eventual world champions. It was a huge task which he executed with surgical precision burning Ramsay with a perfect dime to DK.

I'm not sure Ive ever seen another backup that hadn't played in 5 years come on and do something like that first drive, go 98 vs a fairly filthy defense . Certainly not with the seahawks. I had a feeling there was more to the guy than meets the eye right then.
He reportedly lives in the gym, he was lifting the day after our playoff loss. Dudes still hungry
I think he can win it all if he has somewhat of a team around him.
