They are a terrible team . I wish we were in Tampa Saturday . Saturday is not preventable and the teams both know what’s coming . Munich’s field conditions were not excusable . Very preventable .
I am concerned about Walkers game here but at least he and the team had 4 quarters in it . So did Frisco vs the bears and lost week one . I mentioned on another post that it might be a good game to give Dee Jay a few north south chances .
We have the talent deficit here but not terrible . Gust of wind on a pass , fumble a wet ball , corner slips on a pass route to DK. Who knows . I’m not sure we can beat them straight up and not sure we can’t but it’s an equalizer having this kind of weather .
I actually agree with you that the weather conditions can be an equalizer. I just don't agree with your premise that it was the cause of our loss in Munich. Field conditions notwithstanding, we lost to the better team, or at least they were better that day.
I'd also like to point out that this game will be played on a natural surface. It's been my experience that in extreme weather events, ie more than an inch of rain, that Field Turf tends to outperform a natural surface. There's been a debate in this forum and elsewhere calling for a return to natural field surfaces. It will be interesting to see how this field holds up vs. last week in Seattle where there was also a lot of rain but there a were few complaints about the playing conditions related to the field surface.[/quote]
We’re never going to agree on Munich other than the field sucked ok . Beyond a ridiculously gooey field we were asked to kick off with an internal clock of 6:30 AM, a full 3 time zones ahead of the annointed one who had been sent on a mission to
Introduce football to the Krauts. Several analysts pointed it out as a reason why Seattle was so flat and lifeless in the first half after blowing out 4 straight teams by 10 or more .
The field conditions were a mystery as the practice fields were excellent . Typically in america at least the same greens crew manages both . Just looked to have been heavily drenched with water repeatedly in November in Germany . Filming walkthroughs , deflated balls ….
The 3 time zone difference was calculated intentional math to put the 29 power ranked team with the 36 ranked qb at a further distinct disadvantage .
But imo the biggest setup was the field as we were the quick twitch steam off the edge with the jukiest back in the league . Red hot . We were 3 behind the nfl lead in sacks . Nwosu was leading the league in pressures with 30. Walker was offensive ROTM. Geno was on fire .
All that and 2 pickups of flags that video clearly shows were justified . One was a personal foul on Geno hit while sliding . One was the game winning TD . After little conferences . Tom Brady threw picks despite the most torrid pass rush in the league at the time getting 1 pressure . They weren’t better . We were set up . Yeah we made mistakes . They made mistakes . Still what was it 21-16? A jobbing
I’m with you on natural turf in foul weather although I remember a game at Clink in maybe 2007 MNF when it was raining so hard the turf started bubbling as the drain system was overwhelmed . But I’m a guy that manages natural turf extremely well who thinks we should continue to improve artificial surfaces and go 100% that way . I’d say for a gold standard field it’s AZ, no weather issues , beautiful grass. I think they lost Murray on it . Sherm got hurt .
I don’t like mud games as a fan . If we had a good fast field we would have destroyed Tompa at 1AM dressed in pink wearing night vision goggles . They suck . I want to see world class athletes at their best . See if they can catch Walker or Lockett or DK. See if our line can hold up . A pass rush is most affected by traction issues imo . When a guy like Bosa can put his foot in the ground it’s devastating same as Taylor who suddenly has 9.5 sacks and is steaming off the edge . Walker is hot and a slick field doesn’t benefit him at all . They got him in space late in Munich and threw him the ball .
Weathermen as you know are notoriously unreliable and the forecast is in flux . I hope it’s better than they expect . I want a good fun game to watch . World class athletes falling down isn’t fun unless we win .
